Same thing happened on our July 2008 bill. Idnetified as Education with # of 900-844-4357 for 5.5 minutes for 14.00. I think it is a scam by the education company. We never called them. I called AT&T and they adjusted it out. They also blocked 900/976 prefix numbers.

Same thing happened on our August 2008 bill. Idnetified as Education with # of 900-844-4357 for 5.5 minutes for 14.00. I think it is a scam by the education company. We never called them. I called AT&T and they adjusted it out but we have to wait 60 days, also blocked 900/976 prefix numbers.

This call was on my Sept bill.  The call was entered as August 30/08  The charge was 5.5 minutes and a charge of $14.00.  The number was 1 900 844 4357.  ATT was unable to locate or trace who this number belonged to, but did offer to take the charge off my billing.

I received my Sep 20, 2008 AT&T bill and saw this charge.  The call was supposedly placed on Aug. 28 at 9:53 AM, for 5.5 minutes.  Number:  900 844-4357  Description: Education.  I have not called AT&T yet, but there is some kind of scam going on.

I had the same charge on my bill.  I called AT&T and told the customer service agent that I google the number and it brought up quite a few postings of of the same billing error.  He looked at it but didn't really comment ( I heard him mumble "Who calls me" under his breath).  I'm sure because the calls are recorded  he thought it wise not to comment.  He did remove the charge and added the block as well.

9008444357 appeared on my phone bill twice for 14.99 each. Each call was extactly 5.5 minutes, and the description given was Education. I called AT&T to refute the charges. They removed it, all they required is for you to allow them to block all 900 numbers from the phone. The phone company dialed the number and informed me it belong to a firm dealing with S.A.T scores.

AT&T is trying to pull the scam on my telephone bill too.  I'm going to dispute this bogus charge and refuse to pay.  I live alone and have no need to use the phone other than answering inbound calls, all other calls are dialed through my cell phone.

I just found that number on my phone bill for a 5.5 minute call and a charge of $14. I called AT&T and they removed it, but stuck to the story that what probably happened was I dialled 900 instead of 800 when making the call. I wasn't home, so that couldn't have been the case, not to mention that if it were, would I have stayed on the phone for 5 minutes? I didn't push it because they gave me the credit and blocked 900/976 numbers, but it was very weird that they had no explanation for it.

I too had a 5 minute, $13 charge for a call to this number, which did not originate from my home. While AT&T was quick to rescind the charge and block that area code, and based upon the number of similar complaints listed here, surely they must be very aware of the problem.

Received my bill today showing that I called this number and it was for 5.5 minutes at $14.00.  That call was not called from my phone.  This is erroneous.  I will be calling AT&T tomorrow and issuig a complaint with their fraud dept.  I notice 17 others have commented in this chat form 4/08 to now. It is obvious that there is a scam and someone is making a buck.

I got the same charge 900-844-4357, Education, 5.5N for $14.00. I called ATT to dispute at first the rep said the call was made from our direct landline and she couldn't do anything.  I told her I look up the number on the internet and its look like alot of ATT customers are getting the same charge.  She put me on hold and search the web and found many similiar disputes so she agreed to credit us the $14.

At 2:15 PM on 6-17-08, I got that same erroneous call on my AT&T landline, residential bill from "EDUCATION" 900-844-4357.  Nobody, I mean nobody called that number from our house... unless my 8-month old daughter is not telling us something!  I called AT&T and they opened up a dispute ticket for the $14, '1-900' call.  The AT&T CS rep could not automatically reverse it and wait 10-14 days for a "resolution."  He even said that maybe a cordless phone hacker is in my neighborhood making these calls and it's my fault for using a modern cordless phone!  Then tried to sell me on AT&T cell-phone and U-Verse TV service.  Can you believe all this?  I said maybe you got a crooked AT&T technician... I'll call again and get a supervisor...

I got the same $14.00 charge and the first rep said I had to check with anyone who used the phone and if no one made the call I could have it reversed. I called my neice and she didn't make the call and when I checked online and saw that dozens of people had the same problem I called back and got a nice representative who reversed the charge AND lowered my internet fee! If you get a rep that isn't helpful, hang up and call back. Also, make sure you have the 900/976 block.

I've got exactly the same charge - 900 number, Education, 5.5 minutes and $14.
The ATT rep can't remove the charge, nor could a supervisor. They were totally unhelpful. I've been on hold for over 10 mintues waiting to speak with someone in "Credit Collections" so I can dispute this charge.

Same here, $14 for a 5.5. minute call on 6/17, and marked "Education." What I want to know is who hacked AT&T's system to put all these calls on our bills?

Yes. I got a $16 charge also. I called AT&T and they said they showed this call coming from my home. IMPOSSIBLE. How do they not have record of this if so many people are suffering from the same charge? They were completely RUDE about this. They also said they do not research any such problems and that I have to initiate a "repair" to see if someone has tapped into my line. It took me 15 minutes working my way through their automated system to even speak to an AT&T Rep to get the "repair" order. They said a damaged terminal box causes this. What are the odds of all of us being on the same terminal box?

We also got the same charge on our AT&T phone bill.  It was a 5.5 minute call and cost $14.00...stated "EDUCATION".  We did not call this number.
AT&T was unable to tell us who this was but credited our account and
blocked it from further charges.

I also got the same charge on my AT&T phone bill.  It was a 5.5 minute call and cost $14.00!!!  When you call AT&T the operator says she can't automatically reverse the charges. She has to submit a dispute claim with some long distance department, they'll take 5-10 business days to investigate it and then someone from that dept. will call you to tell you the result of their investigation.   Hopefully with many people having already complained, they'll reverse it automatically.  The operator had no clue how a call can be place when no one was home.  These crooks get smarter and smarter.

I got it the same thing. It looks like everyone reporting a problem with this number had it happen in April, and 4 of 6 people reporting this problem use AT&T.

I've got it too! Just opened my bill....Does anyone know what this number is?  ATT told me I'd have to dispute the billing with the ones that billed it....So I have to call a 900 number and bill for the minutes to dispute the call? How much sense does that make?

Number came up on bills for two different phone lines on same day.  ATT removed the charges, which totalled $21. I also had them block all 900/976 calls on both lines to (hopefully) prevent this from happening again.
