If it's legitimate, (A) why didn't they leave a message & (B) why would they call regarding any business with them as I haven't shipped anything in months, neither do I have a FedEx shipment due for delivery to me, & I have no outstanding/recurring payment due for anything?

I just got a call from this very number.  When I called it back, it says that it's not a working number, so I don't think this is legit.  Oh and it didn't mention anything about being Fed Ex.

Numbers can also be "spoofed" making it look like a legitimate number, but actually coming from somewhere else.  You were right to be cautious - any time you get a call and you're not sure that it's legitimate or not, you should always look up the number online or in the phone book and call that number.

This IS a scam.  Got a call from "Norma" (Memphis) wanting to verify that my credit card info connected to my account was accurate, and she said she was going to ask me a series of security questions that ONLY I COULD ANSWER.  I asked how was I to know that this was indeed FedEx.  She gave me a phone number to the FedEx office with an extension for her.  I called FedEx, tried to use the extension, and it didn't work. I spoke to a customer service person who looked up my account and said there was no reason FedEx would need to be reaching me & that the extension did not exist.

If this number is so legitimate, why did it call me at 5 am this morning?
It is either a scam, or the sign of a company with poor judgment.

Definitely Fed-Ex and not a scam. If you call back 1-866-352-3252 press option 2 (as I was instructed) you will be connected to their international outbound shipping department. If you sent something outside the U.S. and received a call from this number there is probably a problem with your shipment.

Recieved a call asking if they could install a drop box at our business location. The caller left his name and number, and I told him I would pass it up to the owner. Then called Fedex and zero'd the menu until I got a person, they confirmed the name and number, so I would assume it is not a scam. we'll see what the boss says when he calls the number.

Event Reminder
It is legit FedEx calling you. Like do-not-reply@whoever.com emails, this is a ONE WAY calling service. Usually has to do with a FedEx Claim you, or whoever you sent something to, has. The secondary number is 901-348-9348 where you can actually talk to human about the claim. But it is legit number, not nigerian scammers. Good luck.

It is LEGIT.

I got a call from 1 901 922 7000 , from a Sheryl Lynn telling me about an invoice that needed to be paid, credit card number was illegiable, don't want it to go to a third party.  The number she gave me to call back was 1 901 397 2365 , she left an inv number for me to quote.  I called the number, got a weird message about person can't come to the phone, putting me through to voice mail, then how the person hasn't subscribed to that service.  Seemed fishy, looked up number and got this website.  Decided to call FedEx at their 1 800 number from their website.  Gave the girl all the info, next thing I know the girl tells me she has Sheryl on the line.  It was all LEGIT regarding a shipment that had come in June this year and the bugger who sent it to me told them that I was responsible for the charges (ebay/paypal purchase, he was supposed to pay for shipping) but since his credit card number was smudged he tried to pass the buck on to me.  She even got him on the other line while I was telling her he was responsible for the charges when he finally owned up to it (I have paperwork to prove it!!).

Long and short of it is that this is LEGIT, if you have doubts call the FedEx 1 800 number, give them the details of the call you received and they will confirm it.

I got a message about my training and called the number that was in the message, after I tried to redial 901-922-7000 and heard the disconnected message.

It was legitimate. So I think FedEx just uses it for caller id on outbound calls . . . they area very security conscious for themselves.

2009 11 12 noonish received a telephone call from a woman who identified herself as working for Federal Express and stating that she was verifying a business account that had been set up in the last couple of days by one Michelle Sh***** using a Mastercard ending in 0640 and the address 1625 Av***** in Grand Prairie Texas.  I have had my telephone number for 25 months and it is NOT at the address given.  Previous calls from collection agencies seeking a John or Joan G***** at this number and that address suggested that the caller is not with Federal Express.  The call originated from a line at Paul Bardo Tower, a residential facility on Neely Street controlled by the Memphis Housing Authority, but not from 901-922-7000, which is an inactive number that had formerly been used  by Federal Express.  This appears to be an unlawful collection practice of an individual who works from home that has been able to hijack the unused Fed Ex telephone information for their caller ID.  I did succeed in contacting a local Michelle S***** who does not live at the address given and does not have a Mastercard ending in 0640.  The caller appeared to be a caucasian female of about thirty years of age with at least some college, a profile that does not fit most of the residents at Paul Bardo Tower.

It's a valid outgoing FedEx number.  I suspect it's one of many in a group of outgoing lines used by multiple departments.  I received a call from that number when the card on my FedEx account had expired.

they did not leave a mess, and looking at the other posts here, it looks to be a scam!

It's FedEx.  Got a call late, but I also was shipping priority shipping, meaning I expected my shipment to make it by the next day.  I didn't fill out everything correctly, and they were letting me know of the situation.  Strange way to present yourself as a multi-billion dollar corporation, but in this rare case, it is legit.

With all the fraud and scams prevalent on the internet it is understandable anyone would be suspicious of a phone number appearing on caller ID that does not reach the person calling, however, with reference to the two postings above: "vegan" and "got the same call this morning", the callers from FedEx were legit.
The Toll Free Fraud Hotline for FedEx is 866-519-6500. Frequently, the Customer Service Representatives are well equipped to track packages but are not familiar with the Memphis Hub Operations or phone numbers.901-922-7000 is not an incoming phone line but outgoing only.If you speak with anyone who is a real FedEx employee, ask for their FedEx ID number. That number may be confirmed at FedEx Corporate Security 800-872-8025.

2009 11 12 noonish got a call from a woman claiming to be trying to verify information on a commercial FedEx account opened in the last couple of days.  She provided a name which is known to me but an address on the other side of town with which my telephone number was associated more than two years ago.  Using internet search tools I learned the address she gave is a residence, not a business.  Although the caller ID identified it as Fed Ex Corp, when I mapped the call it showed as originating from a low-income senior housing facility operated by the Memphis Housing Authority.  Previous reports here claiming this is legitimate should be regarded as suspect, since it could be the miscreants posting messages to make themselves look credible.

It IS a Fedex call center line.  They called me today w/ this caller ID regarding some billing issues, and were able to transfer me to the correct dept. within Fedex to handle my situation.

It is legitimately Fedex.  Not a scam.

11:14 AM THURSDAY.
MESSAGE LEFT ON BUSINESS ANSWERING MACHINE:
This is Patricia Smith from FedEx, We have a package seperated from the original box. Pleace call me back at 901-797-5711
And left an 8 digit reference number.

I called FedEx at 1-800-GoFedEx.
I was told this is NOT one of their numbers She tried the number and found it is someone private number in Tennessee, FedEx hub is there in Tenn. as well.

POSSIBLE SCAM *BEWARE*

I called this number and got a recorded message saying, This is no longer one of FedEx's numbers, Thank you.

Then I called the number left on the machine and got this recording;
The person at ext. 7975711 is not available please leave a message.

If this is an actual call from FedEx lost and found, why when I call the 800 number, they could not find anything out with the referance number, this ia a major company and can referance anything.
And if my "seperated package" has my number attached to it, you most likly know my address, just send it back. Like UPS does.

Just be aware!
