I just got off the line with the idiots at RBC.  I can't believe those a-holes gets a low-life Famtel company to try to sell me crap that I never asked for.  Famtel called me from 10 different numbers, just about every province.  Thats what type of scum bags they are. 514-225-1398, 705-797-2494, 514-225-7625, 204-289-0964, 403-456-6015, 519-266-6839, 902-442-7660, 604-282-7534, 519-266-6802, 705-797-2495..Needless to say, I CANCELLED ALL MY ACCOUNTS AND YOU SHOULD TO.  If these a-holes think bothering people this way is acceptable, just goes to show you RBC has no respect for their customers..

Correction: It might definitely be a scam and not RBC themselves. But RBC does give your name to their "Proactive Team" is what she called it. Everyone should just call RBC and have their number taken off all lists. Hopefully this helps. I've received at least16 calls from all over Canada in 2 weeks. Sometimes twice a day. This is just ridiculous. Not impressed with RBC at all.

It is RBC. Just call them and ask them to take your number off their Proactive Team call lists. It was no problem they just change your preferences. They cannot remove your number from any active lists that you are on but they can stop any future lists from obtaining your number. So they warned me that I could still receive calls from the company that has my number right now. When they call I'll be sure to tell them to remove me from the list.

This is the same company as another number (514-225-1398) located in Montreal and is apparently a scam and NOT RBC. Ask to be removed from their call list or you will have them charged. See if that works.

I got a call from this number around 7:40. It was a man saying he was from RBC. He offered me a service to protect my data and supposedly could chose among a set of data I wanted to protect (i.e. Name, Address, phone, etc) He said it was free for the firs month and I could cancel the service withing a month with not charge. The service would cost 84 or something dollars. I did not accept. Then he said RBC would send me information about the service to my mail. I asked to have it e-mailed but he said they do not have that service even in any branch. So he asked me to confirm my name which I did, then my address. I told him I could not do this by phone due to bad experiences I have had and he quickly hanged up. For sure this is a scam!!!  Watch out whom you give your info.

Famtel called me today for some kind of identity insurance, being an RBC customer.  Received calls from 902-442-7660, 604-282-7534, 403-456-6015, 204-289-0964.  Very annoying tactic that would make you think it was always someone different.

Called around 7pm, I didn't answer. I called back, a recorded message answered. It is Famtel, a marketing company that acts on behalf of less than ethical big companies. If you leave a message asking nicely they promise to add your number to their no-call-list. Right. These scumbags have been calling from numbers all over Canada and US. Don't you love RBC for giving out their client's private info without their permission?

Things most of us are reallizing. Have caller ID and do not answer if you don't recognize, never press #s they ask, never open internet when asked, never give out account info and the list goes on. Just have to deal with ringing phone and you can turn down the ringer.

Like many said above, it was someone from a marketing company trying to sell some sort of protection plan (apparently through RBC). I went through the same process of them calling & someone else answering, me not being home, and him saying "its not important, I'll call back."

They say they offer to protect stolen things such as credit cards, cell phones, etc. by only having to call one number after losing something and they take care of the rest. He kept asking me to confirm my first and last name to send out a package by mail, but every time I tried asking for more information (like asking if I had to sign up/give my information to receive more information), he'd change the subject, which set off red flags for me. After my inquiries, he finally just abruptly ended the call. Seemed fishy.

I found similar info on the RBC site, but some of the info the caller gave doesn't match up with the website. I believe this is what they are trying to sell, as it sounded similar to what he was talking about: http://www.rbcroyalbank.com/cards/documentation/cardassist_plus.html

royal bank hires this company to pitch their credit card protection services.

You know the product is not very good when a big 6 bank has to spend money trying to sell it by phone solicitation.  Good profit for the banks however.........

Seriously everyone, the best way to handle these is to either answer the phone and politely ask to have your name removed from their calling list - remember, it's a real person trying to make a living in a s****y job, have some compassion people!

Or if you're really too scared to even answer the phone and talk to another human being (OMG!) then rest assured you can simply ignore the call then call the number back and it gives you a little automated message about who they are and then says to leave a message with your phone number of you do not want to be called anymore. following the morons advice above you'll continue to have to ignore the calls until the day you die if you simply keep ignoring them or "get an answering machine" as some ignoramus  suggested.

By the way, Femtel called me regularly from three different area codes, I called all my missed calls back and it was all the same company so I left a polite email asking them to never ever call me again and voila. Remember, if you're an jerk on the message or phone then they'll probably keep calling out of spite - I sure would if I was in their shoes haha - so be NICE!

It's really simple and quick to get these calls to stop!

My instinct says if you call the number back, than they will know it's an active number and will most likely lead to MORE unwanted phone calls. Not sure that's the best advice.

I just got a call from this number but I ignored it as I can't answer calls during the day on my personal phone, but I can be online no problem. It says from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island. I am assuming since I know NO ONE there, nor have I recently ordered or done any business there, that this must indeed be a telemarketer.
