No they cannot arrest you.  Be kind when you talk to them and get their name and company name.  Also get a return number in case you get disconnected with an extension.  Once you have all the information then report them to the appropriate people.  They are not allowed to threaten or harass you as you stated.

Good Luck

I received a call from them and I owe them NOTHING. They are trying to get in touch with my friend who lives out of state. When I told them I do not appreciate them harrasing me, he claimed this is the 1st time it has come to their attentiion and if I did not see that this message got to my friend by 4:30 legal action would take place because I did not relate it. Last month they left a message on my phone making it sound like my freind had been injured. That it was very important and I needed to call back immediatly due to the severity. I call then a rude woman tells me to call my friend and pay her over due payday loan from ACE. Why am I being harrased for someone elses debt?!

They were very rude especially when they called my workplace. It is illegal for a collection agency (because that is what they are) to call a workplace.

I received a call from 1-904-493-6985, she said i owed some payday-loan-yes people. i told them i never received any kind of notice that i needed to pay anything. they sent it to my old address even though i had put in a mail forward from my old to new address. She talked down to me like I was incompetent and I told her she's trying to make me feel inferior and she was putting words in my mouth. and then we started arguing and she said i had to pay $655.00-681.20 by 4 oclock today. I can't pay that, I dont have that sitting around. Then she said they will enforce some crap at my job. Yeah I'd like to see that. She was rude, she was mean, she thinks she's above the law.

Wow, I thought I was the only one having a bad experience with these VERY RUDE people. It is a bit of a relief to see that they are not as threatening as they try to make them selves. I to returned their long distance call only to be hung up on by on very ignorant woman. (Ms Dawson I caon only hope you are unable to sleep at night) After 5 calls back to the office the office manager came on the line with the same speech apparently they feed everyone from the comments I have read. Threatening my job and jail time. Claiming that I intentionally wrote a worthless check when in fact Ace Cash Express deposited my ck 3 hrs before I came in causing it to bounce days later and would not accept my payment because the Item had not returned yet. I had a death in the family that I had to leave the state in the mid term and came back to this crap. It appears they have no more legal authoriy then a standard collection agency. I have filed a claim with the BBB in my area against this company and urge all others who have had the misfortune of dealing with theses heartless people to do the same. Maybe with enough complaints this will cause  the state to investigate their practices.

They won't get off your back. I sent them a payment and was supposed to make arrangements to pay the rest and was told that i wasted my payment because i couldnt pay by today. Told me "I don't think you're a lady who likes to waste money and just throw it away, are you?" Fred Cameron. RUDE. Mr. Reed or Reeves. RUDE. Dan Duncan - called him right after my sister called to tell me that he called her and he was no longer with the company. Read another poster on another site who said she was former LMP employee and they fire people who don't strongarm people into paying. I'm reporting them to EVERYBODY.

I received a phone call from someone at 904-721-3710, do you think that these are the same people. Stating that I owe over 400 dollars at a payday loan company in Mississippi. I haven't received a letter stating how much time I had to bring in this payment. I just got a RUDE phone call from someone saying that my first option was to bring the money today, second option, tell him where I stay and he could come pick me up and take me to jail... I asked could I bring the money in on the 16th and he said NO, I had to bring it in today.

has anybody ever received a call from one person in this agency and then, upon calling back to speak with that person, got transferred to someone else because that person was no longer with the company?

I read in another thread somewhere from a poster who said that she used to work for LMP and that they fire employees who don't strongarm consumers into paying.

You need to check you state laws for "preferred presentment providers".  In Florida they cannot send you to jail as a payday loan is NOT considered a bad check.  Depending on your state laws, the only recourse they may have is to sue you.  I have worked previously for collection agencies and know the laws.  Contact you attorney general in your state.  Good luck.

How to Protect Yourself: Debt Collections/Consumer
Source: The Florida Attorney General's Office

This is from the Florida Office of the Attorney General.

You may have questions relating to debt collections if you are contacted by a "debt collector," someone who regularly tries to collect debts owed to others. A debt collector may contact you if you are behind in your payments to a creditor on a personal, family or household debt, or if an error has been made in your account.

A debt collector may contact you in person, by mail, telephone, telegram, or fax. However, a collector may not communicate with you or your family with such frequency as can reasonably be expected to be harassing. A debt collector may not contact you at work if the collector knows your employer disapproves. A collector may not contact you at unreasonable times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree.

A debt collector is required to send you a written notice within five days after you are first contacted, telling you the amount of money you owe. The notice must also specify the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and what action to take if you believe you do not owe the money.

You may stop a collector from contacting you by writing a letter to the agency telling them to stop. Once the agency receives your letter, they may not contact you again except to say there will be no further contact, or to notify you if the debt collector or the creditor intends to take some specific action.

If you do not believe you owe the debt, you may write to the collection agency within 30 days after you are first contacted saying you don't owe the money. The agency may not contact you after that unless you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of the bill.

A debt collector may not harass or abuse any person. For instance, a collector may not use threats of violence against the person, property or reputation; use obscene or profane language; advertise the debt; or repeatedly or continuously make telephone calls with the intent to harass or abuse the person at the called number. In addition, debt collectors are required to meaningfully disclose their identities to the person at the called number.

A debt collector may not use false statements, such as: falsely implying that they are attorneys, that you have committed a crime, or that they operate or work for a credit bureau or misrepresenting the amount of your debt, the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt, or indicating that papers sent to you are legal forms when they are not.

Debt collectors may not tell you that you will be arrested if you do not pay, that they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so and has a legal right to do so, or that a lawsuit will be filed against you, when they have no legal right to file or do not intend to file such a suit.

If you have a question about whether the collection agency which has contacted you is properly registered, you may file a complaint either with the Attorney General's office or the Federal Trade Commission, Correspondence Branch, Washington, D.C. 20580. You may file suit against the collection agency for violating state and/or federal law. If you prevail, you may be awarded your actual damages, attorneys fees and costs.

Debt Collector
So I received a voice mail on my home phone this morning from a Randy West telling me that his client has decided to take "action" against me and to call him back at 904-387-3187. I ended up speaking with a girl named Kelly at ext. 276.. She started telling me about a payday loan with Pay Day Loan Yes which she said was an internet payday loan company. I explained to her that I did not take out a payday loan online and this was the second call like this that I have received in the past 24 hours. She stated that I had until 4p.m. EST to send them $662.50 and if I didn't send the money then I would have enforcement taken against me. I played dumb and asked her what that meant. She said "you don't know what enforcement means." I said what kind of enforcement. She said that my local law enforcement would be at my house or my work to arrest me for willful intent and a bad check. I then asked her if she had a fax number which she gave me 904-493-4497. I faxed her a letter stating that I had just gotten off the phone with the Federal Trade Commission and the State Corporation Commission for the Commonwealth of Virginia and what she stated to me was not only a lie but completely illegal. I put in the letter that any further communication from this company is to be sent by United States Postal Service and to not contact me via phone again. If they contact me again I stated that I will be contacting an attorney to sue them for violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, that I have her phone conversation recorded and that I would win the lawsuit and by the time it was all said and done I would own this no good low life collection agency. I haven't had a phone call back since. I will not pay this payday loan because I did not take it out. They can put it on my credit all they want. My credit is pretty crappy because of a complicated pregnancy and not being able to work for almost a year. I'm not worried about these people. What they are doing is so against the law. I filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the State Corporation Commission in my state. I'm getting ready to contact Florida's Attorney General's office to file a formal complaint with them as well. I think everyone on here should file as many complaints against this company as they can. Eventually they will be shut down and put out of business for practicing collections illegally.

so,are you saying that the "Legal Mediation" is legit?  Are you saying they can send someone to my hom/work to present me papers to begin court action, etc?  In all honesty, I may owe a small balance to one pay-day company, in which I already had their moneygram info. to pay them what I could, etc, until balance paid...I just feel that this action of telling me I have to pay now in the range of $650 something dollars is absurd, and not to take a payment arrangment????  or else...just didn't seem legit to me.  If I was in such big legal trouble, I would think my bank would be after me...not this "Legal Mediation" company.  Your thoughts please
