Anyway, consumer debt in America is a civil matter, not criminal. This includes payday loans, which are *NOT* "hot checks". You cannot be arrested or jailed just because some grade school dropout on the phone says you owe money. It is illegal per *federal law* to hint or state otherwise. Read up for yourself ....

Update: They are evidently Smith, Dean and Associates out of Jacksonville, FL. If they try to tell you that they will have you arrested for a pay day loan default, tell them to check Florida Statutes which not only say the state will not prosecute, but specifically prohibits the industry from saying the State Attorney will prosecute if the check isn't picked up. If they try to tell you this, ask them to hold while you bring on the local State Attorney's office and then have them repeat this threat. Also if you get a call from these people, tell them that you are recording the call and then do it.

I was at the police station making a fraud report when they called me! I handed the phone to the police officer and they hung up on him after he asked them some questions! Scammers!

I guess it never ends. EXTORTION means taking money that isnt owed . If ANYONE we are calling says they've paid off their accounts we call the client and confirm it. It has happened where the account had been paid and we say we are sorry and close the account. Look I FULLY understand times are hard, I live paycheck to paycheck just like most but if you borrowed the money, it needs to be paid back. These Pay Day Loan Companies are owed by a person, not some huge corp. If you bounce them a check for the money you took they loose the money and it hurts them too !!!!

they call me and my parents threatening me about felony arrest

I am recieveing phone calls from this agency for debt collecting. I did or do owe A-1 check cashing money, but these people are calling and harrassing me and other family members.

Did you know that making threats to people is a felony? You also cause the "debt" to become null and void by doing such things.

I got a phone call from these people stating I only had two hours to pay then 265.00 or I was going to jail. I believed it and later found out I was scammed out of my rent money. They also gave me a false address and false name. They are scam artists please do not give these people any money.
