Tired of getting calls from this number. Scammers suck!

Received a call that went to voice mail. Call was from Duval County Jail (Jax, FL) to see if I wanted to receive a Collect Call from an inmate. No one I know is incarcerated.

THIS IS A SCAM.

Global Tel, based on other comments, knows their system is being used to run the scam. They need to work with the Duval County Jail to correct this abuse,  or Duval County Jail needs to cancel their contract.

It's a scam.
904-598-2893  and 800-483-8314.
Trying to seperate you from your money.
Call from 904-598-2893  says Global International something,,Collect call from "Josh" a inmate at Duval County Jail.
Then if you hang up  or don't accept the call or can't accept the call because you have a prepaid disposable phone like me..
Then you get a call from,,,, 800-483-8314  trying to get you to call and give credit card info and set up a account so you can supposedly recieve these collect calls from the supposedly inmate.
Duval County Jail needs to investigate this.
But for sure,,i don't know any "Josh" and i don't know anyone that is in jail anywhere.

Last 2 days,,i got 5 calls from this number,,,,,904-598-2893.
It says "Global International "something,,,collect phone call from "Josh",,,in Duval County Jail,,,,
I don't know any "Josh"...Or anyone in jail.
Duval County is "Jacksonville Florida".
I use a prepaid cell phone myself.
I think the scam is this: If you accept the collect call and you have a cell that is not a prepaid one,,you will get a big bill on you cell bill.
So 2 days of that call.
Then today,,i get a call from this number: 800-483-8314.This one says,,someone from Duval County Jail is trying to call you collect,,your phone doesn't allow charges or billing for this,,please call this number to give a credit card info or set up for payment for these calls.
See,,,it's Christmas,,,scammers know how to pull our heart strings..
Coz,,i even wondered,,"is this some kid ,,a friend of my children, in jail:...
But it isn't....It is just another SCAM.
Thats all the internet is anymore,,,SCAM.
And all the privacy laws protect the scammer.
Harrase the good decent people,,protect the scammer.
Don't respond,,,just hang up.

Global Tel Link is a company that shares revenue with Duvall County FL and charges an extremely high rate for making a deposit to set up a prepaid account  Almost $5  on a $25 deposit and then charges $18 which includes a call charge and a surcharge for a short interstate call.   I have heard that intrastate call are less but I assume they still charge to make a deposit on the prepaid account and a surcharge on the listed amount charged for the call.   I assume that the Deposit charge and Surcharge are made to avoid sharing with Duvall County.    

This number keeps calling me.  But when I say hello, I hear background talking but then it gets quickly disconnected.  When I try to call it back it is a fax number.  WHAT IS UP WITH THIS?

This call is from the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. The Duval County Jail. If a loved one or a friend was arrested and taken to lockup, this would be the number reflecting the third party operator trying to see if you would accept the collect call from jail

The scam may also call from 800 483-8314.

THE NUMBER IS FROM A DUVAL COUNTY INMATE!!! PERIOD

Its Global Tel link.  Its the system the duval county jail has for prisoners to make collect calls to their family as they are not allowed to the jail phones.  The person receiving the call can press a key on their phone to accept the call if they have a land line and can be billed.  otherwise they have to set up an account with the global tel link company .

They are collect calls from inmates in jail at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Jacksonville, FL. You must put $25 or $50 on your account (phone number) to be connected. It's not a scam. Unfortunately my brother is locked up and I spend about $25/ month to talk to him. Maybe you guys have a friend or family member that is locked up and needs help???

One more thing! If this number calls you report it to the FTC. Here is the website where you can report them! Let's get this fraud in jail!

So after calling Duval County Jail (to get to the bottom of this), I discovered that this number isn't even affiliated with them!!! This means that this phone number is FAKE! And the people who are scamming you ARE NOT INMATES!

HANG UP. Call your service provider to have the number blocked.

I keep getting a call saying to put in my credit card number... I'm pretty sure it's a scam as I live in TEXAS and have no close friends or family in Duval County jail.

After I posted my message, I was able to see comments from others receiving collect calls from the same number. It looks like my collect calls & the crime I was witness to have nothing to do with one another. I'm not happy about the collect calls, but relieved to know it has nothing to do with crime I witnessed.

On 11/17/11, I was a witness to a crime (in Cobb County, GA) & provided a witness statement to the police. That statement included my cell phone number. The next day (11/18/11), I received several calls from the above number (904-598-2893); a number I do not recognize. Today (11/19/11), I received 3 collect calls from the Duval County, FL jail. I did not accept those calls. After searching on the internet, I have discovered the 904 area code is the area code for Duval County, Jacksonville, FL. I can't help but believe there may be a connection. I do not know the name of the man arrested for the crime I witnessed. I'm sure I could get his name, if necessary. I know his brother showed up at the scene of the crime & was wearing a University of Florida sweatshirt. That makes me think he has a connection to Florida.

Glad I'm not the only one getting these calls.  They are calling me up to 5 times a day as well.  What are they trying to gain?

Does anyone know what jail this is from?  In the last 16 hours I've received 5 calls from someone I've never heard of.  I would like to stop these calls.
