This is a version of the automatic debit scam as described by the FTC here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel06.shtm It's frequently mysterious as to how they got your account info in the first place. They might be fraudulently charging accounts at random, or you might have provided your account for a free something like $-off coupon or a shopping card (just pay for shipping), or provided your account when you applied for a payday loan, and buried in the fine print is authorization to auto-charge your account every month with 3rd-party, perhaps difficult-to-cancel subscriptions. The methods used to get you to "agree" to the fine print is endless and they come up with new schemes every day.
By law, all 3rd-party phone billers have to include phone numbers with their charges. If you don't see a number on your bill, call your phone company, tell them you need the biller's number and they should be able to retrieve the number for you from their records. To stop the billing, call the biller to kill the subscription and get your money back and if that fails, tell your card issuer or bank that fraud has occurred and have them refund the money and replace the account - this is important, the account must be replaced because criminals have it and they can charge again or sell account info to other criminals. Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

I was scamed for $4.94 back in april by Amermall on my mastercard and I didn't do anything about it. Just recently I was scamed for $6.93 by Amermall.com. I've never done any business with them. I called the bank and had my card cancelled. The bank said I need to press charges with the police. I'll be doing this tomorrow.

Imagine that, www.amermall.com now has a suspended account! Hmm.... sounds fishy. If they were legit, this wouldn't be happening now would it?

I had a $4.95 charge from them this morning.
I went to my Credit Union and got a refund, and a new debit card number for this account.
I am in Atlanta area, so no local Florida card usage.
Credit Union said they either get as many thousands of small charges as they can steal from people or they withdraw a small charge to check the transaction before hitting the account for a big chunk.
Low life scammers!

Donna,
See my other posts. I had exactly the same problem today. Luckily I was able to get to my bank and heve them shut down my Visa debit card. I think we've all been hacked by or through Amermall.com. I keep calling the telephone number, but all I get is an answering machine. Also, no reply from their email support. There website security certificate also does not appear to be valid.

I just got back from my bank. These guys are slick. $6.93 got posted to my account between the time I noticed the problem and drove to my bank. They cancelled the Visa debit card for my account, will issue me a credit for the $6.93, and will reissue a new Visa debit card.
I keep calling the 904-830-4283 number and all I get is an answering machine. No reply yet from an inquiry I did to their "suport@amermall.com" e-mail. if you go to the amermall.com site and click on the My Account link at the bottom, you get a security alert indicating that there's a problem with the website's security certificate.
BTW, never been to Clay County, FL or used any of the merchants you mentioned. I'm in MD.

The phone number is a Clay County Florida number, which is somewhat local for us. I pulled my husband's credit card charges for the last year and the only businesses in this county that he's used his credit card with were for local restaurants such as D'Fontana's, Cousin's Cafe, and Latino's Store (La Casita). Has anyone else been to these restaurants?

I noted a questionable charge against my debit card this mornign from amermall.com. My bank gave me this same phone number. All I get us an answering service. I never ordered any photo finishing from them, yet I'm being charged for this. I think we've been hacked.

My husband had the same thing happen to him yesterday from this "company" and he has never been to their website/business.
| Donna 2011-05-17 11:40:20 Unknown |
This phone number is linked to a website, www.amermall.com which posted a charge to my credit card. I had never accessed this site until after I found I had been charged for some unknown purchase.
