This 904-987-9950 call was from a Christy Wetien posing to be from Bank of America But this person does not work for bank of america. They dont have a lost prevention deptment as she stated to me. THe reference number I was given was 11 number and not twelve as the real fraud depatartment would have. Funny a seacrh of the telephone number said its registered to Erwin Wetien possible a husband of Christy wetien. It is a landline form Jacksonville florida or sarasota fl. Bank of America fraud department said this is fraud and not real. So beware hang up dont give out any info and call bank of america yourselves to see if an alert was placed on your account. In my case there were no alerts.

I received several calls from this number and I am currently dealing with a Bank of America fraud on my accounts. I went to a branch office. They told me, 1) Bank of America Phone lines will not give a busy signal, and 2) Representatives are required to leave a message. All real calls from Bank of America, in my situation of fraud, have left messages. I say these calls are fake. Don't trust them.

I just opened an account with BOA and am already getting calls from this number. I haven't even used the account and only put the minimum of $25.00 into checking as I haven't received my new debit cards, so I'm waiting to get my card before closing my other account.

The weird thing is, every time I call this 904 number back, I get a busy tone. I finally called the 800 number to make sure they didn't need additional info. The operator advised me that my account was in good standing and not to give out any personal info. to a local number. They would be calling from an 800 number.

creepy.

Got a call from this number, missed it and no message left, however, upon other checks on this number it is a fraudulant number posing as Bank of America, ironically I have just opened an account with them. I would say avoid this number at all costs.

Anytime something like that happens ONLY CALL YOUR LOCAL BRANCH. Never call a number in an email and reveal any information, not even the card number. It's very easy to duplicate their phone system and patch calls through to someone just scalping info. The e-mail may be legit but if it is CALL YOUR LOCAL BRANCH and never use any info from the e-mail. That's the oldest trick in the book.

If BofA fraud department calls and thinks your credit card is being used by someone else then requests you go to a branch to verify your identity what information do I need to bring to the branch.  I think their fraud department is a bit aggressive?  reviewing every transaction from a pack of cigarettes to purchasing a mercedes??  Can someone shed some light on this?  Is this what banking has come to?

I first got an email from B of A saying there was suspicious activity on my account. In the email they had a phone number to call which I did and got the standard menu and then it ask for my debit card number. I felt odd doing that so I went to www.boa.com and called customer support at the number given on their website.

I gave my debit card info and then they ask for my log in ID which i refused to give. Not my password by my log in ID. There was a charge for $1.24 on my account from GA and I live in Panama, Central America so I guess that was specious to them and I told them it was not something I had charge.

She canceled the debit card and they are sending me a new one overnight. I know that the card was canceled because I had purchased something on Amazon.com earlier in the day and got a notice that when they tried to charge the credit card that it was refused. Only B of A could have done that.

I went online and no other charges have been made to that card. So this must be a legit deal.

I just received a call from this number and the woman identified herelf as a BOFA rep. I immediately said I'm not going to give you any sort of information no matter who you claim to be so you should just give me a call back # and I'm going to call the # on the back of my card to verify your identity and the phone # you provide me with.

I called the BOFA Fraud team (because I already had their number in my phonebook from some other recent issues) and asked to verify this #. The rep was an idiot and didn't really understand what I was saying and then she said indeed there is a hold on your debit card and you need to go to a branch to verify your identity. I said are you kidding me, you expect a working professional to take time out of my day to drive to a branch and deal with this?! So i asked for a supervisor, he took the hold off and said I didn't have to go to a branch and he also confirmed that the previous call from 904-987-9950 was legitimate

Folks, I just spoke to Bank of America about this and they confirmed it is fraudulent.  In my case, the phone message said they were calling about 2 checks being deposited to my account.  Well, here's the interesting thing: I don't have any accounts for checks to be deposited to!

So while some people have posted here saying the call is legitimate, don't believe them...it's probably the same person who's trying to scam you!

I just got a call from this number asking me to confirm my current and previous address in order to issue my new bank card.  I called BoA's fraud line afterwards and was told my new card was shipped out yesterday and that there would have been no reason for them to call or ask for that type of information.  Sounds fishy.

SCAM...I called Bank of America directly and they have no record of that phone number.

Caller left a voicemail saying there had been a request for checks mailed to an address in Illinois and not my home address. Said they had put a stop on those checks until I called them back. I called back in the evening and it went to a personal voicemail saying their hours were 8 to 4, that made me suspicious as companies typically have extended hours for this sort of thing. Also found it unusual that it was a standard long distance number and not a 1800 number. Another thing, their voicemail greeting asked me to leave my account number...if they had called me first why would I need to leave my account number???

When I called Bank of America directly they also said that there had been no check request.

DO NOT CALL THEM OR GIVE THEM ANY INFO...CALL BANK OF AMERICA DIRECTLY

It's a scam. I called BofA directly (from the number online) and they confirmed it.  It's not a BofA number.  Call the BofA number from their website and check for yourself.

The people on this thread who are saying it's legit are the scammers themselves.

THIS NUMBER IS LEGITIMATE!!  Why it comes up in a White Pages reverse search as "unpublished" I have no idea.  We have a Bank of America credit card that had 3 fraudulent charges last week and was taken care of by Bank of America's fraud protection department.  My parents (my dad has the same name as me) actually received a call from this number (woman named Elazia) saying someone tried to open an account with my dad's name and SSN.  My wife and I actually DID open a checking account with B of A a couple days ago while fixing the cc acount.  I was concerned by the call my parents got, followed up with the Bank of America phone number that I have from the credit card.  The person I talked to, although after a few minutes of looking DID confirm that this is a phone number for their fraud protection department.

If you are still uncomfortable, call the 800 number for BofA yourself (like I did).  There seems to be a 50-50 split of people in this forum SWEARING it's fraudulent versus legitimate.  Therefore, I was still unsure, so called for myself.  I highly recommend reassuring yourself and doing what we did.  You can never be too safe these days!

The call is fradulent.  Lady didn't give a name and asked for info about some transactions on my account to verify account opening and also the state where my SSN was issued.  I called BofA and spoke to them and they said that information would never be asked or used to confirm or validate anything over the phone.  My account is now under protection and is being watched by both BofA and me for any unusual activity.  Luckily, BofA says the caller can't access my account using the information they had and the information I mistakenly gave them.  If you get a call from this number, DON'T give any information and then report the call to BofA so your account will be marked for protection.

I decided to close the account since BOA customer service couldn't answer a simple question, "Is 904-987-9950 BOA number?"

Here's something strange. After over a month of closing an account, a $10-deposit was made on it by BOA because they say I was referred to them.

When I opened the account, they clearly explained that if I refer someone, I will be rewarded, not both the referrer and referree, and of course, now that I really see how they do business, I will never refer my worst enemy to them.

I immediately called to find out what was going on. The BOA agent said that whenever a deposit is made on the account, it reopens. Does this mean that I have to call them once a month to see what business is being conducted without my knowledge--for the rest of my life?

I asked her to send me a letter stating that the accounts have been closed. She was affirmative in saying she will. To date, I only received the $10-check they rewarded me.

Legit call. Basically, it's Bank of America's fraud department contacting me to verify whether a check that my ex forged was valid or not. Still have to call back into the main line to file a fraud claim to ensure that I get the money back, but it is a completely legit call.

Response to message above:

Can you explain how they know the person has an account with BOA and the type of account and date it was opened? How do they know the person's full name and phone number if it's not listed and neither is it registered in their name? Even further, how do they know the person's address, if none or limited info is on the Internet? How can you be sure if you were not told that 904-987-9950 is not registered to BOA? Finding out who owns this phone number must be the heart of the matter before reporting it as fraud.

THIS CALL IS FRAUDULANT. I just received two back-to-back messages from 9049879950 from a woman giving no name, but saying she was from BOA and it was urgent that she "confirm and item" with me, and gave 9049877670 as the call back number.

I read the above "mixed" reviews, and then logged into BOA and selected the "live chat" function, and have included the transcript below.  You should be able replicate these results from an online chat session with BOA rep:

"Welcome to an online chat session at Bank of America. Please hold while we connect you to

You: Good thank you.
Nadine: It is great to know about your well being.
You: I just received an odd phone call and wanted to see if you cold confirm.
Nadine: I will surely research this information for you.
Nadine: To begin with, may I please have your complete name as it appears on your

You: A woman called from a Jacksonville, FL area code: 904-987-9950 saying she was from
BOA and that it was urgent she speak with me to confirm an item. She did not give her name
and she gave the call back number as 904-987-7670.
You: (She left a message, I have not called her back yet).
You: Is this a BOA call, and is it BOA policy to not give a name?
Nadine: No.
Nadine: It is not from Bank of America.
You: Has BOA gotten this inquiry from many other customers?
Nadine: Yes, this is fraud call.
You: And - are my accounts at risk, or is it simply a cold-call, banking on the fact that many
people have BOA accounts and will therefore call back?

a lady called identifying herself and saying that she's from bank of america. she stated the date and reason for my visit to the company and said that she needed to verify my social security and she asked for my employer number. i foolishly gave it to her rather than taking additional information and calling her back because what she said matched what happened that day. i say foolishly because no matter who's calling you shouldn't give out your number. take the person's info and call them back instead.

i called my branch and customer service, but they couldn't help me, so i'm searching through numbers to see if it is listed as their company number.

did anyone complain about this with bankofamerica.com or  bbb.org? no matter who's at fault, we should insist that the person provide a callback number and never ask such info if the person didn't call them.

called to my cell phone number, already registered on the National Do Not Call registry, with a female recorded "wait" message of "I have an important message, hold one moment please".  It repeated 3 times, then a male picked up the phone with repeated "hello".  I could hear a call center in the background - lots of male and female voices engaged in other discussions.  The male voice hung up after the 3rd "hello".  No other information.
