Got a call this morning at 8 AM Thanksgiving , finally get to sleep in and get a call like this with no one on the line. What a bunch of dirt bags . Think the CRTC is on the path of the senate (OUT)

Got a call from that 909-090-0787 number. So nice of them to call at 8:14 am on a holiday Monday. No-one responded once I picked it up. Surprising.

Everyone should register with the Do Not Call List and for those of you who already have, go to the website again to confirm that you're still on the list. Your registration will expire and must be renewed if it has. You can also extend it. When I checked mine, it had a 2017 expiry date, but when I clicked the "Extend" button, that changed to 2019.
I don't have the contact info handy, but you can also get on the American DNCL. Since some calls to Canadian numbers originate south of the border, it's a good idea to be on that list, too.

They called me at 7:30 am on 14 October 2013. When I answered, there was about 20 to 30 seconds of silence, then a pre-recorded female voice just said "Goodbye" and the line went dead.
My guess is that it was some kind of robo-call checking to see if it was a working phone number and that by answering, I confirmed it. :-(
When it's a real person who calls me, and if I have the time, I like to mess with them. Time is money to them and the more of their time I waste, the more I cost them. If their accent and poor English sugegsts they are from south Asia, and if they also use an obviously fake Western name (I've been called by "George Clooney", "Brad Pitt", and twice by "Abraham Lincoln"), then I tell them that my real name is Sanjay Bindar or Mr Vindaloo or Ramalama Dingdong. Since I have a Canadian accent, that kind of name usually confuses them and it's made several of them stumble and stutter through their script.
If they're selling duct cleaning, I pretend to misunderstand and I say, "Duck cleaning? I'm not a duck hunter and I don't have any ducks that need to be cleaned, but if you want to clean the grizzly bear I just shot, I'd appreciate your help." We then go back and forth with "Duct", "Duck?", "No, duct", "Yes, like I said, duck." Lots of fun if you have the time. A friend of mine goes throiugh with it and makes an appointment and if anyone shows up, he denies all knowledge of it. He thinks creating discord between the telemarketing firm and the duct cleaners may contribute to them dropping the use of telemarketers. At the very least, it pisses off someone else instead of the people being called.
Another trick is to tell them you need to put them on hold for just a moment and then set the phone down and leave it while you go do something else. One guy lasted 12 minutes, plaintively asking "Hello?" over and over, but most give up after 3 or 4 minutes of waiting.
I have a very loud electronic alarm that's intended to be mounted on a door or window so that if it's opened while the alarm is activated, it goes off. It's about the size of those pink erasers we had in grade school and it is LOUD. I've often blasted it into the phone and it caused the line to stay tied up for several minutes. Perhaps it's the frequency, but whatever it is, when I put the phone on speaker, I can hear them trying to hang up at their end and they can't get a dial tone because they're still connected to me. Sometimes they get really angry and I hear them banging on their phone. After a few minutes, the connection is released, so it doesn't tie my phone up for long, but it makes them think their phone system is screwed up.
If they say that the call is being recorded for training purposes, I tell them, "It's OK, no need for you to do that because I'm already recording it." They often sound quite worried by that and one even passed me to his supervisor. I told him that they'd stayed on the line long enough for the NSA to trace their location and that he should expect a visit shortly. He sounded surprised and worried and quickly hung up.
When it's those b*st*rd scammers from the "Windows Technical Centre" (or some name like that) who are trying to get passwords and/or to get people to download virus software (and no, I don't mean anti-virus, I mean virus software), I tell them I don't have a Windows PC. They usually say they can help with Macs, too, but I tell them I have a Commodore VIC-20 or an IBM mainframe or a HAL-9000 (i.e. from "2001: A Space Odyssey").
I don't have time to do these kinds of things every time a telemarketer calls, but if I have a few minutes, I like to mess with them. It's more satisfying, and easier on my blood pressure, than telling them where to go and what to do when they get there and then slamming the phone down.

Answered. Other party said "Bell Canada promotions." I let dead air do the rest for me. Not sure how they can go from Bell to ducts but maybe they are just **that** good! lol

Working from home, and these shysters called again - robodialer and spoofed (fake) number; dead air when I answered so I hung up before the machine connected to the source. These are dialed via computer, by call centres (usually off-shore) dialing number after number to find 'active lines', Then they share the lists. Some centres are hired by organized crime using various tactics to get your identifying information (name, address, phone, any income level or credit card data) then use that to make Fake IDs and commit fraud in your name. See the RCMP Top Scams website.
The air-duct cleaners or window/carpet cleaner telemarketers - these have also been shown to be fake, being used to validate numbers, names and addresses. That's why the transfer to a 'supervisor' if you say you want service - they are arranging for someone to come to your address. Do you really want to let known scammers into your home?!? What other crimes would you be setting yourself up for? Just hang up, and report to with details of date/time of call and the number faked to your anti-fraud unit (in Canada email info@antifraudcentre.ca).
Reporting DOES help - here is a recent update from the CRTC on enforcement of the Do Not Call Registry:
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info_sht/t1048.htm

Didn't bother at the number starts with "0" is clearly fake and range long-distance and living in Toronto is the other obvious evidence this is fake.

Can we somehow stop these calls ?
Does anybody have any idea?
I can't stand this anymore, seriously...

After reading your comments am thinking this is some kind of random automated call. Probably duct cleaning business as I too have received calls from this number. No response from caller and the last one came in just an hour ago at 8am SATURDAY morning. The number shows up on my phone at least once a day. CRTC, and call blocking don't seem to work so I just ignore the call and don't even pick up. I have turned off all my ringers except for one which is in the basement. I can hear it from anywhere in the house but my bedroom and anyone I know who would call me knows not to phone between 10pm and 9am. Anyone who does is SOL.

just got a call from this 9050900787 #. (Clearly that is a spoof number, and even when it looks legit, don't expect anyone to give you the real number, since these are programmed to whatever they want you to see). Humoured the ring by picking it up, got silence and the background noise of a crappy IP line like those somewhere in rural India, and after about 5 seconds, a silicon sally "goodbye" is utter. Nice. Really nice.

The same scam continues. While someone suggested CRTC would work, the reality is here:
http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/episodes/2013/01/to-catch-a-telemarketer.html
They could manipulate caller ID displayed and the number you see may not be real. If you unfortunately take their call, just hang up.

I received at 8.15 AM. The person was calling from Bell Canada for the internet/ cell phone/ TV services. This was a telemarketer from BELL.

This number called me less than a minute ago. I answered and the call was immediately cut off. I just can't figure out the reason for repeated calls coming in from this number.

Received call today from 905-090-0787 @ 12:48 pm. The phone only rang twice but, I wouldn't have answered anyhow because I don't know any company, organization, or individual by the name of "No Name" :)
This number can't be blocked using Bell Canada call blocking setup.
Don't suppose we could convince Obama to direct some of his drones to the call centers in Pakistan?

Scam Alert - Received a call in am and they claimed to be from bell, even gave the name of ms Johnson and employee number 323, we're trying to get information on the pretense of marketing. I stopped her in here tracks by telling here I was on the line with bell previously and they put me on their no call list to which she hung up. I called the number back and the call would not go through as dialed. I called bell Canada and got a call centre in Central America and they confirmed it is not a bell number and they a going to report and investigate.

Constant called by this number. I say we all should agree to the duct cleaning they have to offer. When the duct cleaning comes, Decline having agree to anything. Say that you were on the do not call list and it was impossible for anyone to have call you. After awhile, these duct cleaning companies will have to stop these calls.
| Ramoth_v2 2013-09-20 18:48:59 Unknown |
Called just before 1pm Sept.20th - answered and got dialtone. See the RCMP website for Top Scams - legit duct cleaning companies do not need to telemarket from spoofed numbers. This is a pretense so scammers can see if your number is valid. If the call goes through, they try to get your personal information on this pretense - such as name, address, lifestyle (house or condo). Then scammers sell/share lists of numbers to feed into their robo-dailers for potential 'marks'. Most, according to CBC Marketplace "To Catch a Telemarketer" originate in Karachi, Pakistan - where they knowingly fake numbers, and don't care if they are working for organized crime.
If you get a call, just hang up. Generally, I no longer answer ANY 'Unknown Name' calls but they caught me napping.

Just called. Played along and got "647-563-1845" as their number and "3221 Eglinton Ave E." (address is located in scarborough) as their address went from being located in Mississauga to Toronto when a "supervisor" took over the call. Told I would call him back but he said that number is for employee use only. Hung up on me when I ask if the company had a website and customer service inbound phone number. I know we can't always do it, but troll and waste their time. It will put a smile on your face. ;)
