they are a collection agency, they called me for a house down my street. Asking me if i know them, hahahaha what dummys.. bewary of this caller, they will ask for info on you as well, your best bet is to just not answer the phone. if you do answer you should be concerned with how they got your phone number and street name..wtf, bell , rogers you should be doin more to prevent little things like this. im gona get rid of my home phone and just use a cell from now on because all of the stupid home phone companys are selling our info as well.. Get rid of your home phones, cells are better anyways.. cya bell/rogers kiss my a**

This number showed up on my phone this morning (about 916 AM, Saturday).  I didn't recognize the number so I didn't answer and let my voicemail handle it, if the caller would leave a message.  The message was 'for a claim (I) have)' and gave a different, toll free, number which I should call back (1-866-916-9162...which has a similar page like this one, check it out for some useful information about your rights and what a collection agent cannot do).  This other number was, like the one on my call display, for a collection agency/scam artist of some sort.

Needless to say, I don't know who they are since there was nothing about the company they purported to represent, nor was there any information about the alleged claim.

Regardless of one's personal situation, do not take calls from a number you do not recognize (and not from toll free callers), do not respond to these people or give out any personal information, and do not bother yourself with speaking with someone who is going to pressure you into something or verbally abuse/threaten you.

***If you do choose to speak with them, make sure you get their name (insist upon this, and an employee ID number, otherwise just hang up after telling them that they are required by law to provide such information to you), the name of the company for whom they work and find out the name and information of the company they claim to represent (usually they claim to be debt collectors, but often have no ties to the institution they claim to represent) and take the precaution of recording the call.  

Try to remain calm and reasonable (I know it is not easy, especially when insulted and repeatedly interrupted).  If the person with whom you speak will not/cannot help you, ask to speak to their supervisor (if they refuse, again remind them that it is your right to speak to someone with the proper authority to resolve your, not their, concerns...if not successful, hang up, but be polite).

The best policy with such aggressive and abusive people is to ignore them, otherwise you may need to report them to the provincial authorities (in Ontario, which is where the calls originate) and register a complaint.  Legal advice (try a free telephone consultation after speaking with Legal Aid) is also an option.

You must be from Collect Corp., people out here would not post s*** if you would not bother them. There has got to be a way to stop these a***oles from harassing the wrong person I have had this telephone for 22 years at the same address an don't owe any thing to anybody.
You collection a***oles ever think the borrower give the lender a bogus number.
I think I will start playing along with you fu---s just to waist your time and find out just who you are.

I got these annoying calls from this number around 7:50 AM Sat when people are still sleeping.

this number call my line and he is looking for a person named Jeric, when i tried to get back to his number,it says it was disconnected,wth is this person!!!

I got a call on my cell phone from this number. When I called it I got a message that this number is disconnected or not in service.

Got a call this evening from 1-905-489-5863.....and they had called my house SEVERAL times today. They kept asking for someone (which turns out to be my middle name) and then my last name.  They wanted me to verify my birthdate because they said they wanted to talk to me about an RBC financial matter.  I started to ask him personal questions as well - Told him he needed to give me his name (Said Sam Williams), his company name (CollectEmCorp), and then I asked for a phone number to call him back "at RBC" to make sure he was "LEGITIMATE".  The guy said to me "You know what, I'm Done, I'm Done, you're not cooperating" and then he hung up.  I don't even have an RBC Account, credit card, etc.  Its  funny how when you call the number back you get a message that says the phone number has been "disconnected" or "is no longer in service".....Who are those freaks and just how much personal information have they obtained about me somehow?  I called the RBC Call Center and reported it - They are launching an investigation.  RBC Advised me to call "Equifax" to alert them that "they must call me if they receive any kind of credit application on my behalf" so they can verify with me if it's legitimate or not.  For anyone interested, Equifax's Tel # is 1-800-465-7166.

These guys scam artists. They called looking for someone who doesn't live here.

I got many calls from this number for a person who has no relationship with anyone in my home for about a year. The other side always claims that he or she represents TD Bank. I contacted TD Bank who agreed to do something to stop it. But I continue to receive calls from this number asking for the person I do not know. Be aware of fraud and do not reveal any information to the caller.

Got call from them and they were some explore company

I have been getting the same calls, but it is for my husbands ex-wife.
They won't remove the number from their call list. When I asked to speak to
a supervisor, the guy said that I don't get that privilege.

So I called him an a***ole and hung up.

They are a collection angency who try to strong arm you. I find it quite funny actually.

This company continues to call although I have had the cell number for in excess of 5 years.  They have been advised that I have no knowledge of the person they are attempting to locate.  I have advised them on numerous occassions to discontinue calling.  They refuse to identify themselves with other than a first name "Melvin" in this case, then hang up.  Called most recently on July 13 & July 14, and usually more than once a month prior to these instances.
