Thank you for confirming what I already thought. I have received two letters, each with a check in it for $2,750.15, claiming that this was covering the $1,750.00 tax amount and giving me the other $1,000 towards my $50,000 winnings. I thought it seemed suspect, especially since my last name was spelled incorrectly. Thank you for validating my suspicions.

this is not the first time i have recieved this kind of thing. the first was several years ago and we found out upon attempting to deposit the check that it was a scam. i told them off then telling them they were going to hell. this "rude guy" is probably the same i told off so many years ago. he should make sure he doesn't target the same people over and over again. if i could make this call (my plan does not allow it) i would tell him off again.

I got the same letter stating that I won $50,000 had to send in $1750, and got to keep $1,000 of it. Cashier's check was for $2750.15
I called "Fred Munata* and he asked me my name, i said "jamie" and he said rudely, Call me back in 20 mins and then hung up. If that wasn't rude and creepy, no way did I call back. Came to google and came across this page, and another stating that any cashier's checks from canada are fraud.

received check in mail with a letter stating i won 50,000 and the check of 2,750.15 was to be deposited in my account to pay taxes on my winnings. my actual tax would be 1750.00 and the extra 1,000 would be mine to keep. i contacted fred munata and the guy was hostile with a thick accent speaking fast and didnt want to divulge any real information about the winnings. all he needed me to do is deposit a check on wed that wouldnt be available until fri. i was already skeptical and his demeanor on the phone confirmed it. thanks random mail lottery fraud scammer

I received the same type of letter with a check for $998.96 requesting that I pay my "tax agent" (upfront) and a processing fee before the money could be released. The reward was from the Consumer Rewards Program. Same agent and same phone number; Torrent Inc. and Henry Meyers.

How did you determine that the check was bogus?
