I take it that you WORK for this company?  Now you creep on the internet to find those whom you seem unable to contact via the telephone.  Pathetic actually, sad sort of existence that you have been brought into.  You really should learn to express your thoughts in a more "politically" correct manner.  When one see's "do***ebag" in your comments, one can only think of how many people have called you that, for you to have learned the language.  Just saying though......  I have never had that wonderful chat with you, considering it though, just to get to know you're trailer park slang a little better!  I came on to find out who was calling my parents, only to find an ignorant, arrogant, self-centered, racial slurring moron.  God help you, no-one else will!

We constantly get calls from this number.  It is a collection agency looking for the person who lived in our house more than 7 years ago.  They are doing a reverse look up on the address and calling the house, many, many times trying to get someone.

Who do these accounts recovery people think they are? I told them in the Autumn that the people they're looking for changed their phone number. I now have the misfortune to own the number. They said "OK, OK, you only needed to tell us!"

FGS you blithering, hopeless, prats, it's NOT MY JOB to find the people owing the debt, it's YOUR job!

Now they're back again, calling, calling. They are ripping off their clients - so called "collecting debt" -when all they do is make a stream of ineffectual recorded phone calls. Banging off phone calls to a number or an address is not science. It's easy to prove the new owners of phone numbers/addresses are genuine/bona fide and it is absolutely their responsibility to do these chacks. They need to do work to find their targets.

I will go after these people. They are harrassing us for no reason.

Yes, this is a collection agency, account recovery they say when you force them. They like to slide it by by an acronym ARC, accounts recovery canada. I had a conversation with them once. They would not say who they are looking for, just first name and demand you confirm the rest of the name. I said I do not confirm the rest of the name, unless you inform me what this supposed debt if for. No, they can not DO that against policy. I said, well I can not confirm who I am either. Once the lady was angry and threatened to hand up and END this call! I said no problem, have a nice day! and hung up on her. I had another conversation with a man, I stated that I KNOW that law, that they MUST mail the claim to me if I request it, that exempts me from having to send payment first, that is the LAW. But even though I asked for it, they do not send. Never have they sent it. So, now I do not play games any longer.
He got around the Policy by asking if I still live at *** street? I said no, then laughed and hung up. He still did not ask me if I was WHO I am, just the first name. So that still does not prove that he is looking for me. I get calls every second day at the very least, sometimes repeated ones in ONE day. I am tired of them, thought of changing my phone number, but thought no. I am not doing that to suit them! They do not know who this number belongs to, simple because it is PRIVATE.
Not a loser like you all.

"I am tired of them, thought of changing my phone number, but thought no. I am not doing that to suit them! "

You could, you know, pay off what you owe dumbass?!?

Since you know the "LAW" you should also know you need to pay back what you owe for goods and services that someone else is now stuck footing the bill for. Perhaps you are just a hypocrite do***ebag, and these words will never lay to rest in what you call a brain; but if for some reason it reaches you, think about it. Same to all you other sad offs listing your woes in here.

A collection agency can not go after you after 7 years.  The laws for collection are on line.  If you check the company and find the owner you can call and put a complaint in.  Believe me they will check into it because of the new laws and the fines.  You can also say that this call is being recorded watch how fast they say good by.  There is a number to call if you are being harassed.  No collection agency can call you more than 3 times a week.  You can also ask to speak for the supervisor and tell them that you are not the person they are looking for. Final response to them is that you will be contacting your lawyer, but speaking with someone in authority at the agency is the best way to halt the calls.

You should check the new laws regarding collections first before you do anything.

And you showed up on this site PURELY by accident?  You were either researching the number because they called you looking for the debt that you didn't pay, if it as cut and dry as "if they call then you owe".  OR you are one of the uneducated collectors that these people hire who completely lack any social skills to get a decent job.  The only thing that works in your favor is your poor attitude towards others and your hostility.  No collecting = no pay for you. Or you are some lonely person that is just ticked at the world and had nothing better to do with your time other than sit on your culo and look for people to harass as making friends isn't quite your forte'.
So which is it?

If it's a collection agency and they are leaving insulting messages, then look up the Collections Agency Act for your province, it varies slightly from one to the other.
General are:
While rules vary across Canada, generally collection agencies are forbidden from doing the following:

* trying to collect a debt without first notifying you in writing or making a reasonable attempt to do so
* recommending or starting legal or court action to collect a debt without first notifying you
* communicating with you or your family such that the communication amounts to harassment, or calling to collect a debt at certain prohibited times (which vary from one province or territory to another)
* implying or giving false or misleading information to anyone.
* communicating or attempting to communicate with you without identifying themselves, saying who is owed the money and stating the amount owed
* continuing to demand payment from a person who claims not to owe the money, unless the agency first takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the person does, in fact, owe the money
* contacting your friends, employer, relatives or neighbors for information, other than to get your telephone number or address, except when any of these people have guaranteed the debt or if you have asked the agency to contact them to discuss the debt or, in the case of your employer, to confirm your employment, your job title and your work address.
* they may not contact you at work
this is a link to a page with a list of the provinces and a link to the act for each one.

FANTASTIC INFO HERE TOO:

Contact for each province to file a complaint:

If they are working outside of the laws for your province then take every measure to report them, they really don't like having to answer to the government about their behavior.

Dude...get your facts straight. I just had to file a police report against ARC because they claim I owe money to a company I have no accounts with . I even called the company to confirm that no one tried to open an account in my name. These people (ARC) had the last three letters of my SIN number and attempted to confirm this with me. I refused so he hung up. When filing the report with Toronto Police I was told that this happens all the time. And they do leave messages (by law they do need to disclose this information). Seriously? Who defends collection agencies anyway?

They are as legit as a collections agency can get, I owe a defunct hyrdo company money that I never used,  In one month I got charged 700 for hydro,  I was assaulted in my home and moved away so forgive me for forgetting to cancel my hyrdo account,  they wouldnt take the charge away so Im not paying.  This ARC company is a nuiscance but they are nothing serious they called me repeatedly during the time that I worked and never tried a differant time and now Im getting an automated message.  If they are calling you someone at least thinks you owe them money

Your an idiot!  Collection Agencies by law can not collect money from just anyone.  If you've had calls from those people before, maybe you should answer the phone and pay your damn bills like everyone else has too.  Collections will not leave a message because by law they can not leave a detailed messages disclosing why and where they are calling from.  3rd party disclosure and Privacy laws.  Get your facts straight.

In a moment of weakness I picked the phone up. A recorded message told me that it was Accounts Recovery Corporation (arc.ca). She asked me to call an 877 number; I didn't. I don't owe anyone any money so I assume that they're trying it on. Collections companies don't care where they get the money from as long as they get it. I've had calls from these people before, but not picked up the phone. If they can't be bothered to leave a message then it's a scam. Nil illigitimus carborundum.
