Who is using this number?

My husband and I first got very official looking mail supposedly from the post office telling us that people with out names had filed a mail forwarding request to our address. The clever form asked us to notify them if this was incorrect.  I called them but my husband did not.

A couple days later I receive the same bogus check and letter mentioned above.  I noticed there was no return address on the envelope, but it had been address to the person with my name at the other address, then what appeared like a USPS yellow forwarding label with my name and address was attached, making it look like the letter had actually been forwarded and was meant for the other person.

So I googled their business name and found they are trying to rip people off by getting them to cash the bogus check and then cleaning out their bank account.

Do not fall for the bogus post office mailing.  Do not call the number. And for goodness sake, don't cash their bogus check.

I am going to take all pieces of mail to the post office and see if they want it for their investigation and will do whatever they instruct me to do.

Since my husband did not call them, and consequently did not verify his real address to the phony postal man, he did not get a bogus check. Only I got one.

Yes, today I received the same scam letter, winning final notification, platinum point securities inc, 1 905 7814462, barbara bryan, check for $4,980.  I am glad the only thing I lost was my dreams about how would I use $250,000.  Hope they go to jail.

We too are "lucky winners" just recieved a check for 4,980.00.  Thanks for your posts.  Are we supposed to contact authorities with these or what? Let's spread the word to the folks we know who may, due to their circumstances, cash the check and fall into this scheme!  I am so ANGRY right now.  I hate it when people are taken advantage of.

This may have come from: moniker.com-registrant,dotster.com registrant godaddy.com registrant still investigating as this is scammers looking for company and person with email and physical address. or may have come from credit bureau's mailing list,FBI is checking out.

Anyone who receives this type of solicitation should notify their local FBI offices. This is type of is know as "419" fraud that they and the US Secret Service actively track. Premise goes as follows: you receive and deposit check and are told to wire funds from that amount. Check is returned unpaid, your account goes negative as a result, and the funds you wired are lost, unable to be returned.

Do not fall for this.

No call , but a letter wanting me to call Barb at 905-781-4462, Platinum Point Securities .  Very real looking check sent, to pay "taxes" on big "winning jackpot"drawing. These people are preying on the desperate unemployed, Good try but you struck out here.  There is no thing as a free lunch, and you cant win a sweepstake that you never entered!

No call but received a hard copy letter in the mail with the check for $4980 and a request suggesting the tax be paid in advance of $2995.  

Prob going to report to BBB and also the local news to make sure no one is deceived and desperate.
