After re reading your post again the email part concerns me. It is a big red flag for a scam. Call the original creditor ASAP and sort it out.

Ignore them, pay the instalments to the original creditor, from your bank account and keep proof. It would also benefit you to write a letter and send via snail mail to the original creditor describing your experience, don't forget to keep a second copy for yourself. Be sure to mention that MCA is not acting in their best interest. You could also call the guy's boss too and let him/her know.

They are trained and told to secure the whole amount as quickly as possible. That was his interpretation of the instructions.

Who is the original creditor? I am collecting a list of their customers in case they force me to escalate my complaint.
If enough people stand up for themselves they WILL change their attitude.

As someone who went through a nasty divorce and later got sick, really sick I have dealt with account receivable and collector's a lot.

Your first priority is to the health and welfare of yourself and your dependants.
           - The job of the above people is to secure payment from you as soon as possible. Some individuals on the phone don't care about you and your welfare at all.

You see collectors of these forums always say pay your bills and you won't get calls. My take on this is that they are young brainwashed people who have never been through a financial hard ship. I have not been able to confirm this.

MCA is nothing more than a 3rd party service company. Representing your original creditor. A flaw in the system is that when collection agency personnel treat you with utter disrespect, no one is willing to come to your defence. They often go unchecked. I have an experience with MCA they have ignored me for 3 years and  I have reopened the old wound. I will give them a little longer to do the right thing and apologise before I tell the world what they did. Rogers ignored my complaints too. They lost all my business over it, and I am not going to drop it.

What to do:

Develop a budget: determine how much you can pay and pay it monthly. This amount will vary so NEVER make a promise to pay. Some people will abuse this too. Rogers does. Until MCA and or the offending employee gives me a written apology, my advice is to NEVER discuss anything with them on the phone.

Discuss your situation with several employees at your original creditor. Some will play hard ball and tell you its too late as a pressure tactic. Things will domino downhill from there. I have experienced this with Rogers.

Important: write to your creditor (include date on letter) and describe your hardship.  Inform them you want to pay them but can only afford so much. Also include that you don't want to enter a "promise to pay" as the amount you can afford will vary month to month. Print a second copy to keep. Don't rely on your computer's hard drive, they do fail.

Pay something monthly: If you do you have hardcore solid evidence that you are interested in paying them off. remember their employees are trained with the mindset that the longer it goes unpaid, the less likely they are to recover it. That is why they apply pressure tactics.
     - Pay the creditor directly, and pay from your bank account. Once 1 or 2 payments go through you are in a better situation to talk to them, until them you appear to be a deadbeat.

Remember: the more calls you make to the creditor the more money it costs them. roughly $3 for a 5 min call. Keep calling until someone will talk to you.

Roger's bill for ignoring me is about $1700 and climbing, all over a $400 cancellation fee that was applied to someone elses account (not mine) by mistake.

PS the income that Roger's has missed out on as a result of this is close to $5000 and climbing. I cancelled my Rogers accounts after my experience with MCA and Rogers (remember it wasn't my account).

I've been injured several times in my life and unable to eat because of it. I get hounded by these scum who will not work at a productive job but would rather threaten and intimidate less fortunate people.

If a company is so greedy it wants to bolster sales and give commissions by easy credit...eat your losses.

You always take the word of the merchant even when no judge would rule in your favour as when the facts came out you would be shamed. (or SHOULD BE).

If you enjoy pulling wings off flies at your age, get some help.

I have never paid one cent to you slime and will DIE that way.

I'm supposed to make a payment tomorrow for an outstanding bill that I owed a company last year... Met Credit has been on my a*** about it for a month.... Last week I was told by this guy that I have to pay the full amount immediately!!  After explaining to him that I'm going through a divorce & I'm a single mother with two kids, his response was borrow money from friends or family!!!!!
I'm confused what to do, whether not pay all my rent or go back on my word & pay these guys half for now & other half later or just directly call the company I owe& see if I can pay them & pay off!!!

Is this really a joke? Or will they take me to court? I had my cellphone transferred to my work but Telus never transferred my last payment to them. So now this place keeps calling and leaving messages. The debt is under $500, normally I would pay it but I was injured in an accident and cannot afford it, plus it was Telus' fault for not transferring it. So should I continue to ignore?

The answer is quite simple and easy to understand if you just take a moment to think about such things... If you are in debt and can't pay it, sell off assets or beg borrow or steal the money to pay a debt how is it that you expect a person to file for bankruptcy when that would be $2000 dollars or more? You see my young friend it is an obvious  downward spiral. Besides if you do some research you would find all the information you require to legitimately allow the debt to default past the limitations and that in Canada you are not required by law to deal with anyone except the debtor. Also there is no law saying you must call these people as they refuse to prove their identity yet expect you to over the phone... best advise do your research if by some misfortune you fall into one of these situations

My sister even told her that all she gets is family allowance and that is what she lives off  of and she has 3 kids to take care of and her husband works but for only minimum wage

This company is a piece of work! Calling me 3 times in one day. didnt even call me on my own number but on a phone that belongs to my tenant down stairs. Telling me i owe rogers money.. First this company tells me I owe them $1300 and then they tell me $1097. I strickly told this company on the phone that i would be taking my issues up with rogers and to not call this number again. I  then call rogers myself and they know i have a cell phone to contact me on as it is with rogers and i got told my home phone bill and internet bill is $841.00. They have no issues with me making payments on my bill. So if this metro credit place calls you 905-819-8939. Tell them to go fly a kit else where, cause your not paying for there mortgage this month!

I haven't filed for Bankruptcy protection because my debt is under 12k and I have enormous student debt that is new.  Bankruptcy won't touch me unless I can make a lumpsum deposit first.  No hope for me.

I desperately want to work with my original creditor, I have begged them to work with me.  They refused and have left me to the dogs of Met credit.  Down on big banks. CIBC sucks.

People don't pay their bills because s*** happens! Nobody can afford to live these days and I don't deserve to be harassed on a daily basis for money I don't have..

And you don't have to pay them a penny if you don't want to.. They can sue all they like but the government are the only ones that can garnish your wages so as much as these a***oles threaten you, that's all they can do.

After numerous phone calls and automated messages not leaving the name of the party they wished to speak to, I called this number to ask who they wished to speak to.  They asked for my phone number and then told me they were looking for So and so.  Never heard of that person and I've had this phone number for 9 years.  I asked them to remove the phone number as it is disturbing my sleep (shift worker).  The individual was very polite and apologetic and said they would update their records and remove this phone number.  I'm just wondering how long it will be before the next call.  :).

This link might help some people:

http://bankruptcy-ontario.org/bankruptcy-in-o ... of-limitations/

Summary:

Section 4 of the Ontario Limitations Act states that:

   4. Unless this Act provides otherwise, a proceeding shall not be commenced in respect of a claim after the second anniversary of the day on which the claim was discovered.

In simple terms, a creditor is required to commence legal action against you within two years. This two year period is generally acknowledged to be two years from the date you stopped making payments on the debt. If you defaulted on your debt before January 1, 2004 however, your creditor has 6 years to make a claim for payment.

Hello all. I am currently under the employ of Metropolitan Credit Adjusters (MCA) & have been for quite some time now. Quite frankly I love waking up in the mornings knowing I get to go work. I love my job. The people & atmosphere are amazing. I have no idea where you folks get your information from but you'll need to change your source. Firstly, we are a "first assigned" agency which means that we don't purchase any debt at all. We are simply hired by our clients to work on their behalf as they no longer wish to deal with individuals who cannot maintain their finances. We've been dealing with major banks like CIBC & PC financial & various telecommunication companies like Telus, Rogers, Bell etc. for decades now. Secondly, no we don't sue. We submit recommendations to our clients to sue upon refusal to voluntarily resolve matters. We offer numerous options like flexible monthly re-payment plans & settlements. We are instructed by clients to report this on your credit (which basically screws your credit for 7 years) but we don't do so right away, we hold files for a short period. Me personally, I'm a nice person. I like to help people by preventing this from reporting against their credit bureaus but people are ignorant. For example, If I know you're a home-owner, have available credit or assets & are being rude with me, then yes you'll be showing up to court. At the end of the day, a negative attitude gets you nowhere. Yeah Telus & Rogers rip a lot of people off. Suck it up...don't take your anger & frustration out on someone else. That's ignorance. Suck it up, & pay you bills.

Got a call from a very rude person from Metropolitan Credit Adjusters for my Outstanding Telus Account by the name of Ronique. Keep nagging me to pay this but would not listen to a single word that I had to say to her. In frustration I asked to speak to someone else and she told me someone. would call her back. This happened this last Friday an then I didn't hear from her at all. I called back on Sunday an left a message asking for someone to call me back as I did receive a letter from this company indicating my debt was placed in their office.

This morning I received a call from another agent Carl (1-866-463-9161 ext 6262) in response to my message. This guy was not only professional and polite but didn't once ask me to pay my bill. Instead he listened to what I had to say. I indicated that I paid this to Telus on my Visa towards the end of April. He asked if I had my statement had that charge on it. I checked my Online statement and for some reason didn't see the charge on there. I told him I was going to call Telus and try and figure this out.

Telus on the other hand were rude and flat out called me a liar saying that I didn't pay them. I did however get a receipt stating the transaction was approved so I hung up on them and called my bank. My bank told me that the payment didn't go thru at all.

I called Carl again and explained the situation and he was again patient to listen to what I had to say. He told me that he was going to ensure this didn't affect my credit as the file was not reported on my credit. I asked him how this agency works and he said that a file from Telus only gets reported if it remains unresolved with Metropolitan for 30 days from the day the file is received in their office. I asked him if he could lower the amount he said he could but then that would result in a settlement and would then get reported as a settlement on my Credit bureau and paying it off would be better as it would not be reported by them.

I called Equifax to check if this was reported against my credit by Metropolitan and was told they aren't on my Credit bureau and Telus reported this only as past due.

If you guys have an Issue with your Telus account maybe this would be the only agent that you would need to deal with

Hi Lena, I was called by an agent from these guys and the number she gave me back was the 1-866-463-9161 number.  Are you saying this number is legit or not legit?  Im being stalked nailed for an outlandish amount.  Should I talk with these people or tell them off?  A few things don't seem to add up and the agent was really pushing for a good faith payment.  I'm leary because its for a student loan that I really got nailed to the boards with before.  The loan has been in default since 2000 and the last payment made was 2008 they say.  The loan has gone through a few collection agencies and the last one in 2008 told me that it had gone to court and sent me a copy of the court decision that didn't look very official.  Whats your take?  What should I do?  Negotiate or ignore?  Hopefully you get this message so you can verify or fill me in, thanks!
