These people have been calling me for two weeks, about every third day? it's always went to voice mail and they would leave a message with a "case number" for me to call them back. I never did call them back, as I have good credit to this point in my life. Today, I was free and answered the call? I can tell you 100% this is NOT a legit company. He KEPT asking me for personal information, my birthdate, address, home phone number? when I refused I said that I will physically GO TO MY BANK and if something is wrong, they would know? he got very mad, said that I should just write down the "account number"? and every time I he started telling me what it was I cut him off. I hung up on him, he called right back, he yelled at me and then finally I said I was going to call the police if he called one more time. He told me I can call the police but they won't do anything, and that the calls will not stop.

If this was a legit thing, if I owed money to someone? I would have heard from the Business LONGGGGGG before it ever went to a credit collection agency. Think about that before you give ANY info to these people!
And if it was legit they would NOT be so unprofessional about it!

The caller asked for one of our family member's name, my younger daughter answered the phone and asked if the caller would leave a message. He/she said it's from a collection agency and couldn't disclose any detail to anyone. Then he/she tried to get information from my daughter but failed. Finally he/she said it must be someone with the same name from another area code they are looking for and ended the conversation.

that's only true in certain provinces, ie ontario. in other provinces it's 6 or 7 years.  and not just from the last payment date, but from the date you last acknowledged the debt.  go to your gov't's website and search "statue of limitation, collection agencies" to find out which applies to your province.

How to make them stop calling our house???? They are looking for someone we don't know. Calling day and night and very-very rude.

as far as I know legally, A company is only allowed to call up the person in question....Everything else is considered stalking and can go down for murdur.

My home has been called by this # as well, looking for someone else and assuming I am in contact with the person. I usually hang up but a few times I didn't, the woman was extremely rude assuming I am in contact with the person she is looking for. I threatened calling RCMP for harassing calls they then switched caller to a man. I have caught them calling my home before 7 AM which I know is against the law. I hope they try again so I can report them to RCMP.

ok these guys are crazy they threat you and say they are trying to help, I don't see how these two go together. Why doesn't the government or police do anything about this????? I just thought I would shed some light on your situation. I work for a loan company and I can tell you first hand that his threats are more than out of line for his position, and can be charged because of it. And let your friend know she can rest easy because it is illegal for ANY collection agency to garnish any earnings that are government. So ODSP, OW, CTC, CPP, and even child support. They will continue to threaten people because they use that as a scare tactic. In reality, they can do nothing. She breathe easy and don't worry.

Relax, they are only using scare tactics.  I don't know what the limitations are for other provinces, but for BC as long as you have no contact with the collections agency they can't come after you once 6 years is up.  But if you contact them or give them any money the 6 year time limit will start from 0 again.  The only thing they can do is garnish your wage, and for a small amount of money it won't happen.  They need to get a court order to do so and will need to apply for it once a month thereafter.  It is very costly for them to go this route so that is why they use threats.  They are hoping to scare you enough that you will pay back the debt.

And even in the small amount of cases that actually result in wage garnishment, they can't take more than 20% or so, and even at that you can apply for it to be a lesser amount stating hardship.  I've heard of people only paying like 20-30 dollars a cheque.  Overall the costs of paperwork / courts are far too high for them to be going this route for a majority of debts.

Do some research.  They are virtually powerless and so try and guilt/scare you into paying.

 i think it's TD bank, or somebody else that i owe money too. i don't answer the phone anymore, i think TD bank has put a contract on me. so i don't want anybody to know when i'm home.

obviously one of the dirtbags that work there.it would be fine if they had a legitamate claim but they harass you even when they have the wrong info

well said my friend.  Don't get rattled.  These losers are hired because they are good at being nasty to strangers and to plow forward to get whatever information they can get no matter who  they are talking to - your mom, your employer...doesn't matter.  On the bright side, these organizations are employing sociopaths that otherwise would be unemployable and be sucking off the taxpayer's titties.

Just let them do thier thing.  Don't give out information.  Give them fake numbers, talk kindly, say you'll call them back right away but don't, say you are so sorry and really are feeling super burdened, ask them for an account number to deposit the money in, say you will be going to the bank for a loan and please call back in a couple days to see how things went... have some fun with it!  I sure do.  Seriously though... picture sociopaths and friendless misfits trying to make a next paycheque by harrassing you.  Why would you give them what they want?

This number is OUT OF CONTROL, it calls at least 4 - 5 times a day, I have a cell phone and I cannot answer as it uses my air time and I am not going to use any air time on unknown callers but holy hell they won't give up.. Its been going on for almost a month, every day 4-5 times.. I am almost tempted to get my number changed.. Geez

No they have 2 years to sue.........7 years it will affect your credit, they have an unlimited amount of years to collect.....in Ontario!!

Ya they called my cell and asked for me by my first name and said they were from PIC and had some great news for me from CIBC President choice credit card....They said they wanted to confirm my birth date and I said i don't give out that info and they said they had it right there and I said then just tell me and I will say yes or no and I Barb said no, how about you give me the month and I will give you the day and you give me the year and I said no....I asked her what my address was and she said all she could say was 6th street....I don't and never have lived on 6th street anywhere....I told her to stop scamming innocent people and not to call me again...bet you $10 she calls me again...super excited to hear what other crap she has to say.

Got a call from a Brian Singh from a company called PIC asking for someone I have no clue who she is wanting her to call him back. He's left at least three messages so far. I don't answer calls that I don't know. How do I get these obvious scammers to stop calling?
