This company is a criminal enterprise.  They are purchasing lists of default payday loans with the express purpose of harassing and intimidating people into paying as much as they are willing to send.  

Report any calls from these people to the Federal Trade Commission and your local Attorney Generals Office.  They are committing illegal acts!

This guy Travis Griffin called me today on my job, threating to lock me up.  Saying if I didn't pay all this money that I would lose my family and my life would be over. My credit would be ruin and I would be unable to get a job. He as very smart about the situtaion.  HELP IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO STOP THIS!!!!!11

I cannot believe htere are people out there who actually send these idiots money.

These guys were featured on 60 Minutes.  They got their information by hacking into Internet sites, and they threaten lawsuits against the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.  They speak with an Indian accent, and they claim you will face "harsh legal action" unless you send them between $500 and $1,000.  They are total idiots because their name does not even make sense:  United Investigation Bureau Department.

They use names like Roger Smith and Jack Jones, but their real names are probably something like Mahamanda Yogananda.  They can barely speak English.

They use various call back numbers including 347-844-6701 and 718-766-7916.

The best idea so far was what Paybackisabeatch suggested.  Turn the tables on them.  Call them back, ask for Habib, waste their time so that they cannot make money with scam calls to extort money from honest people who may get frightened or confused.

Harassing calls threatening to have me arrested, have my family and my employer sued. You name it, he threatened it. This man went with the last name Joseph. and when he put you on hold it was a very bad version of Moonlight Sonata. I didnt realize they outsourced harrasing phonecalls as well.

I was too told I would be arrested by these people if I didnt pay $25,000.  I was given a call back number of 408-404-3021.

I got the same calls from Travis Griffin. I was going to be arrested in 2 hours and spend 15 years in prison. I started to think it was a scam when I asked him fro the name and phone number of the company that I owed money to. He told me that he was not allowed to give me that information. He wanted me to call him on my cell phone while I went to the store to buy a pre-paid debit card and then fax him authorization ofr withdrawel. he called me from a differnt number than what is listed on this website but his MO was the same and his name. He called me from 408-404-3021 and it came up as Private Caller on my caller ID

How did you get them to stop?  They have called me my employer,  I have even made a payment... they are calling from long distance # and local #?

Thats what happen to me.

I got a call from (210)858-6602 with a foreign accent that claimed his name was "Will Buxton" of "United Legal Investigation Bureau" looking for one of my employees & claiming that they were going to be arrested & wanted her to call him so he could 'help her out'.

The phone number is now disconnected...

Our firm recieved calls from "John Catler" saying he was from United Legal Investigations Bureau.  The caller demanded to speak with the "head of HR" - failure to connect him with the head of HR would result in the arrest of the individual for "interfering".  The caller was looking for one of our employees, and also left her messages that he was sending out teams of agents to arrest her if she did not call him back.

I called and spoke with the person identifying himself as John Catler.  The call appeared to be answered in some overseas call center.  I attempted to identify myself, but "John Catler" called me a "fraud" and told me he was sending agents out to arrest me for "interfering".  "John Catler" became extremely abusive and profane, despite the fact I was only attempting to determine the nature of his calls.

Further investigation links this individual to several other firms with similar tactics.  It appears the firms are purchasing old unpaid or misreported terminated payday loans.  By doing so, they would have access to employment information, phone numbers, social security numbers, etc.  In most cases, the persons they are calling are unsure if they've repaid the loans and are willing to strike a deal with the caller to prevent arrest.

Based upon all I have found, there is no legitimate firm "United Legal Investigations Bureau" - they do not have any type of police power - and have not been in any way successful in arresting anyone.  This is a SCAM, and they are in clear violation on multiple levels of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act if they are attempting to collect a debt.  They are also in violation of several state and Federal laws pertaining to telephone harassment.  

Please - do not engage in any discussions with these people.  If they contact you, I encourage you to file a complaint with the FTC (www.ftc.gov), your local police department and your state's Attorney Generals office.

I work for a large company and John Calta cld asking for my human resources # that they were going to have me arrested and so forth. Someone transfered the call to me instead and gave me a long spill about attempting to commit fraud by ck and so forth, 2 criminal offenses and would lose my job and block my ss#. I though at first by them having my info it was legit and started trying to work w/them and get money to them, but he kept rushing me and i made him slow dwn, and told him to hold on, and put on hold and had neighbor look up number and found out about scam, i got back on line and he began yelling about how he was trying to help me by letting me make calls to get help and i was playing him for a fool i told him i had to with draw $ from saving to western union him he wanted me to stay on line w/ him to western union store, i told him my cell got bad connection and give me city code and state # he started yelling again that he would give to me at store just stay on line, so when he hung up i just didnt answer my cell. While reading other notes i called Dallas Warrent line and verify that no warrent was issued in my name....I AM MAD A HELL!!! I almost gave them $ i am working 3jobs to make ends meet and single w/ 2kids. I even have the email i tried to call company i got loans from and they are no help i ask well how do i pay yall back and they dont have a clue so to hell w/ them too. I tried, they kept drafting fees instead of taking amt due and that has cost me way over amt and keeping me in hole so yes i clsd my acct. So what now, we just have to wait and see. SJM marketing(PDL) unhelpful gave collections # 866-856-1024 recording only and forwards to 305-433-8368 which is still bad number lots of heavy accent people at all numbers, i also got email and tried to look up state site is under construction...go figure! someone called demanding information on one of our employee's and when i called back he had a diffr. voice and hung up on me. THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We received a call from John Calta stating it was very important and urgent that we call back regarding one of our employees and that the situation was very serious.  I tried the number back and received Travis Griffin's voice mail (hung up).  Googled both and found this blog.  They may now be tageting companies to get employee information.

He threatened to call the Owner or Supervisor of Manhattan Construction.  He called me Wicki Allison.  Very rude and told me to call him back immediately

I received a call from Travis Griffin from legal investigation bureau New Jersey State. He stated  my ss#,address and knew where I worked stated that I was being investigated and that my ss# is blocked and that he wanted someone from Human Resource Dept. to contact him so he could send over legal paperwork. He called twice. He stated the name of the place where I work and he was giving notification that 2 people will be arrested for criminal charges. He is very rude. Of course I was concerned because this person knew my ss# so I called back only gave last name and asked the name of company he would not give name so I hung up.

I received a call from a man with a heacy Indian Accent names John Calta. He threatened to have me arrested in 2 hours.

I just received this call too, he said "Oh my gosh I have been trying to get ahold of you for a week.  This is an emergency, your social security number has been blocked and it is very time sensitive that you call me asap my number is 908-212-3726.  He also said my social security number and address.  That really scares me that he had all of that information on me.  I am contacting the credit bureaus at least and putting a note on my account just in case.

I received this same call last night... I was so scared when Travis Griffin said there was a warrant for my arrest and if I didn't pay $1,000.00 last night I would be arrested by noon today.  They would call my superviser and I could get fired, etc.  Then he kept saying if anyone says this is a scam I will hang up, yet he never did and started to get irrate cause I didn't have the cash.. OMG I almost fell for this idiot cause I'm a single mom of 2 and din't know what to do.  He also gave me another number to call and it was Fa Frank Miller at 1-74-243-5226.  I looked that number up and same issues as this one.  Beware everyone!

Received call today as well as my manager. Told me I will be arrested at home or at work if I didn't pay 700.00 today or 400 now and the rest next week. Would not answer questions, when asked for phone number of orginal creditor gave me 908-212-3726. They also answer the phone as hello? Called my cousin who is an officer, he is checking into things for me as well.

Travis Griffin called me today and told me that he was going to take my kid and that I was going to jail in one hour.  I put my supervisor on the phone and he started yelling and saying really rude stuff nothing that a collection agency would do.  If you get this call do not give him any information I called the police and they called him and pretty much told hime to stop calling I havent heard from him since.

My daughter got the same type of call.I CALLED AND GOT THE SAME STORY THATS ALREADY BEEN POSTED!I kept on calling back and sometimes he would pretend to be the receptionist. He would not give me his fax number  or address. Sounds like a scam to me.

I keep getting phone calls from this same jerk Travis Griffin at my office for  a co worker. He is almost irate everytime he calls.  I don't really know what to do to get him to stop calling my office!!  He obviously doesn't care if we contact the Attorney General or the FTC about their practices so I'm assuming I'm out of options??!! I think I'm going to block my number and call him a couple of times a day from now on. :-)

i got a call today and was told iwas going to be locked up. ia have read some of the others stories and all those things was told to me as well. The name was the ame and everything. be careful

A man with a heavy accent called from this number and gave the name of Travis Griffin.  He said he was calling from "United Processing Legal Investigations" in NJ & gave the same story of needing to contacting an employee for fraudulent online activity.  He was very short with me and after several attempts to call him back to get more detail, he said to stop bothering him with such calls or he would have to get rude.

This is clearly a scam as any legitimate agency would give you the time to ask questions and work with them.  This individual didn't and kept hanging up on me.
