They called my cell (which is also on the Do Not Call list) selling carpet cleaning. When you try to find out their number you get 908-741-387 and they leave off the last number. How can they not only get away with that----how can they do it.

I have received hundreds of calls on my cell phone from a number that is missing a digit once it shows up on my phone. That number is 712-823-350_. The calls are trying to send a fax. They come in a series and the calls are 2 minutes apart. Often, I received 5 or 6 calls in a row. I'm sick and tired of it. Can anyone help?

I've had 3-5 calls to my corporate-issued Verizon cell phone from this 9-digit number. Nobody there when I answer. Annoying!
mm 2008-12-16 22:27:59 Unknown
I have been getting the same number and will not answer it

you can press 8 to be removed from the calling list...I have ignored the calls the last few times, but finally answered and waited for the full message...

Received 3 calls from 908-741-387. Last call was 6:30 pm Sat Dec 13. Never answered any of the calls.

got the same call. Did you ever find out who is was form?
Homer 2008-12-11 23:09:10 Unknown
I don't give my cell number out at all so that theory doesn't work. They are pinging cells looking for good numbers to compile a list to sell.
Homer 2008-12-11 23:07:29 Unknown
The phone company should be automatically blocking it just for that reason as far as I'm concerned.
Homer 2008-12-11 23:04:04 Unknown
I think they are just pinging cell numbers to compile a list of legit ones to sell.
Homer 2008-12-11 23:02:45 Unknown
Well, the phone number is being run through a Peapack router. If you add the consecutive numbers to the end, they all show a Peapack exchange. If someone can get the actual alleged address of this faux company, I can ride by and check it out.
Homer 2008-12-11 22:55:11 Unknown
I personally think they are pinging numbers and compiling a list to sell of good cell numbers.
Homer 2008-12-11 22:53:02 Unknown
I have Verizon myself. They never call my landline.

One more interesting point. The only instance we can remember giving out BOTH our cell numbers was to a local (NJ) mortgage refinance company. Did anyone else speak to a refi company recently? I would suspect, given the the economy, refi phones would be ringing off the hook. A perfect front for an info gathering scheme. Scary part is... they have ALL our personal information!!

My wife and I keep getting the same call. My wife actually had the patience to listen all the way through the sales pitch. Apprently, at the end of the message you are offered an option to press a digit (8 maybe?) to be removed from the call list. Time will tell if it was legit or if it was just another trap to verify it reached a human...

Just rec'd one today...carpet cleaning again..rec'd one last week and just ignored it...same missing digit
matilda 2008-12-10 19:55:49 Unknown
I have received from them twice. I think the next step is to get the phone company to block them from our phones. Seems illegal to not show entire number.
Maria 2008-12-10 17:53:24 Unknown
Just read in another thread, that it was from a Carpet Cleaning Company, in Gladstone, NJ. Cannot verify this, just add one digid "1" to the incomplete number, that is what poster said.

I have AT&T. Somebody must have stolen our numbers...or was sold by At&T. Nobody, but close family has my cell number.
Last time I received something similar, was from a Travel AGency. Of course I called back and harassed them back. Talk to them, ask for supervisors, and gave them a hard time. Shame on them, I have to pay for their phone calls.

Same thing on December 9th at 8:16 am.
Maybe it's Santa checking to see who's naughty and who's nice.

I just got one at 2:22. This is the 2nd time. Both times on my cell. Odd isn't it! Why is the last digit not showing up?
lark 2008-12-09 18:52:05 Unknown
Yeah, I just got a call too. December 9th, 1:52 pm
Erica 2008-12-09 18:14:34 Unknown
I got the same call, only 9 numbers, they didn't leave a message, and this is at least the third time they have called, they also called my mother.
