This person contacted me wanting to buy a wedding dress off Craigslist. They said they were buying it for their cousin but were working overseas and would like to pay me over PayPal and have a shipping company pick the dress up. This sounded fishy so I googled the number and came to this page. So glad I did!

I just got a text a few moments ago from this same number asking about my dress. I am taking my number off of Craigslist. It's so dangerous because anyone with your number can do a reverse lookup and get your name, the ad on Craigslist usually has your city on it, put 2 & 2 together and there you go he has everything he needs to find you! He has your name, probably your pic from the add so he can find you on social media like Facebook. Then he knows if you have a family, children, if your profile isn't private then he can get pics of your kids or family if he wants.. The internet is a very dangerous place ladies! I didn't even know my number was listed on the site. Stay safe!

Same story as all you girls. Changed his number, wants the dress for his daughter, paying me $50 more, yada yada yada. Ugh total scam artist. Except he's going by "Debbie KINGS" now. I capitalized kings like that because every text I get from this person he puts it in all caps too. Crazy.

This guy went by Jacob Clement with a phone number 1-801-742-1338.Same story,sent a check for 2000 more than price of dress ,to send money on to shipping company and they would come and pick up the dress

Yes, this guy says his name is Jacob Calderon. I was selling my prom dress on craigslist, and I am from Omaha, NE. He texted me asked what the price was. In my head I was thinking what a dumbass, the price is listed in the title. But I didn't want to lose a customer so I told him. Then he went on to tell me that he needed it for his daughters wedding. He wanted me to ship it to him to Illinois, and this made me very skeptical. I was stupid enough to give him my address. I thought he would send cash, because I told him CASH ONLY. A month goes by and he's constantly telling me about a money order/check I have to deposit within 24 hours. I didn't get the check and told him the deal was cancelled. But this didn't stop him! a few weeks later he texts me to assure me the money will get to me and to  "deposit the check asap, OK" He says ok, after everything by the way. Quite annoying. Anyways, I did recieve a check yesterday and was very suprised anything came. I knew it was a scam but I still opened it to see what bull crap it would be. All that was in the envelope with a check floating around on its own, no information to go along with it like he said, no documentation. Nothing. This is where I laughed my head off. The bank on the check was from West Virginia. Hm, I thought he was from Illinois? haha. And the check was for like 2,300.00. I only was asking 100.00 for my prom dress, and he said he'd give me an extra 45.00 to hold it for him. So why send 2,300.00? I don't know, but I just tore it up and threw it away. I haven't been responding to his texts the last few weeks, but he keeps sending them! He woke me up this morning at 6am with a few lovely texts.

First of all, I laughed pretty hard at "i hope you are strong now" like what the heck, was I ever sick or weak or not strong? hmm. Also, he had never mentioned a Trevis Jones, or Debra Lefler, or Esta Barbanell. I think he is a bit confused, he's scamming so many people.Also notice in the zip code he uses and "O" instead of a number zero at the end. What a dummy :) I wanted to text back after the "Are you there?" text and just be rude, but I don't feel like getting texts from him anymore. After this incident, I am only selling locally. I am never going to even consider shipping something I'm selling. Everyone, IGNORE THIS PERSON IF THEY TRY TO CONTACT YOU. The conversations get nowhere, and you don't want to be naive and fall for his pathetic scam.

BEWARE:    Got the same messages from this number with the name Jacob Calderone on 1/30/2013 after ignoring multiple text messages received on 1/28/2013 from 435-243-5913 about wedding dress for sale. These were after no responses after I had text a message that something was fishy about prior text messages at beginning on Jan 2013 for ad about wedding dress, from originally #571-399-5602 and email given as roger.greenberg4@gmail.com.  Then the messges changed to be from the 435 area code # with similar stories as above....only it was grand-daughter in a accident sob story.  Haven't texted back and don't intend to.

How do I get him to stop texting me!? Tell him I already sold the dress?

responded to add on craigslist and sent bad check to pay for the product .
he dosent need to respond to me any more. i was not dumb enough to cash check without getting it checked out first . so he didnot burn me for the car or money. i still have the paper work to prove it.

The text message (not phone call) from 909-333-6407 read "dress for sale?" three times on my cell phone. I listed my cell phone number [614-327-2088] on my craigslist COLUMBUS ad for "Gorgeous Homecoming Dresses" for sale asking $40 & up for five different dresses with the pictures. When I sell things locally on craigslist, I meet the person in a well lit public grocery store like Meijer's or Walmart. When I tried to call this person today I got a recording asking for my name, "Mary." I'm pretty sure this is a scam because the text messages do not make sense.

I got three text messages from the phone number (909)333-6407 inquiring about a dress for sale and said he would pay $30 more to hold it. In my text I inquired about which dress they would want because I have five used homecoming dresses in an ad on craigslist. This person does not return phone calls and has bad grammar (punctuation). I usually meet the person in a public place when selling items on Craigslist, so I probably will not go through with this sale unless the person identifies himself. I hope he doesn't harrass me because I have been upfront with him.

Today Sept 2,2012. Received the same text about a bridesmaid dress for a daughter he has a security agent job in Utah and will send a money order. After checking the cell no. in the web I decided to ignore. Thanks everyone!!

Texter "Jacob" wanted to purchase my piano listed on craigslist.com. I eventually received a check drawn from what I suspect to be a non-existent account for $2300 for a piano I wanted $600 for. The rest was supposed to cover shipping from the east to the west coast. An intermediary with this contact information sent me the check via USPS on 7 August:

A male who identified himself as Alice's husband answered this number on 7 August and claimed to know nothing of this financial arrangement with this wife, who was due home late in the evening. I suspect this was the perpetrator.

Numerous text messages from 26 July until 7 August were used to convince/encourage me to take the check when it arrived and deposit it, then send excess cash to the Sanders address via Western Union. He stopped using the 209-560-6448 number after 29 July and began using 435-243-5889, explaining that his other cell phone had died. The perpetrator never called or emailed once throughout the evolution even though I tried to contact him directly. He used the same phraseology and halting English in his text messages as depicted in this post.

Just received info about my dress and after awhile of the texts seemed kind of weird so i looked up the shippers name and well and behold here i am. but i have other numbers that have called it is 385-743-0209 and 209-245-8792, but all the info is just like what other people have experienced

This guy has sent me EXACTLY the same messages, only about a bridal set I'm selling on CL in Michigan.

I just received 3 text messages from him.  I responded telling him that he has been reported as a scam!  Ugh!

I am SO glad I followed my hunch on this one.  This guy is now using a cell number (435) 243-5889 -   Same name and same Lindon, UT address.  He sent me almost word-for-word the same texts as KINDSIR above.  I listed my wedding dress with craigslist, and have had 3 hits on it - ALL frauds!

He is trying to scam me out of my flowegirl dresses.  Money orders are the biggest indication, as well as they are out of town, can't call you, but wow they can text, also they can never spell well.  These people should be thrown in jail!!!!!

Stacy - they don't care about you or anuone else.  They are scammers - this is how they earn a living.  They don't loose any sleep at all - to them it is business and we are their MARKS.  It is that simple.  While you and other slave away at honest jobs - they jokers spend their day looking for targets ot MARKS - and when one doesn't work out they simply move on to the next one.

I had the exact same thing happen.  Everything to the T.  Awful people.  I wonder how many people lose hard earn money/products through this scam because they are naive.  Sad.

I'm having the same problem. My add is on KSl.com. I', trying to sell my wedding dress as.  It's so lame the person will not give me his name. I tried calling the # it just voice mail, then tells me to leave my info. I even removed it off the wed site because it's the 3rd time some one has tried to same with.  Why do people have to do this when times are so rough. I mean me an my family are trying hard too stay a float right now. .
