First they called my husband phone leaving a msg. saying they have case number for a K.Johnson. I called them back and asked what type of company were, I asked is this law and our you an attorney. Well she did not want to answer and i told her who I was and she stated she had the wrong number. So today they called my home phone leaving a msg. for my husband with the same case number for K. Johnson (now its my husband debt since K.Johnson was not at the number)
1. Validation of the debt is required.
2. Your local police dept. does not serve subopenas.
3, You do not get calls from the clerk of the court office people
I dont get you; you know you have been scammed but youre okay with it...regardless never let a debt collection set the amount youre going to pay them...are you spineless...if you owe them pay them only what you can afford and stop whining about what theyre doing. Youre allowing it.

I've read alot of complaints and horror stories about this "EPA Group" or "Edison & Park Associates", but none of your guys tell us the ONE thing that we're so scared about:

"Did they ever really send out a summon (court order) to anyone here?"   (I NEED TO KNOW THIS ASAP).

I requested Debt Validation & they were able to provide that.  My debt was bought over & over until it got to them (They sent me the debt's "Bill of Sale").  I think they're a legit collection company (though they always refered to themselves as "active litigation firm") & violated every collection rules.

However, they're legit & can sue you.  And my question remains the same:

"Did they ever really send out a summon (court order) to anyone here?"   (I NEED TO KNOW THIS ASAP).

If indeed they did, then I'd bite the bullet & try to negotiate a small payment with them. ("Small" comparing to their requested amount).   But if not, then I'd gut it out & go to court to defend my case (base on the evidence that they give me so far, I guess I can only use ILLEGAL collection practices to defend.)

So anyone with a "COMPLETE" history with them please shred some lights into this.  I don't want to read another "they are a scam this, scam that" but never explain the "HAPPENINGS" and "RESULT" of your dealings with them.

Thank you!  I personally will update my "FINAL RESULT" with them in details later to help the future victims.

a mr. jay purvis 1-909-256-5520 called me talkin jail and criminal charges. it scared me so i gave them my pre-paid debit card number. my husband knew right away that the call was bs and after he calmed me down he made some valid points that prompted me to search the internet and true enough i found sites such as this one and others where people have gotten the same call from this joker! fortunately i no longer used that pre-paid card and we DO NOT use our credit card or bank account info to pay any bills. we use pre-paid for that and we only load them on a need to basis. we don't get direct deposit on pre-pay either. we're using all of this caution because right now i have five scammers calling me. i filed a complaint with my state's attorney general's office and with the ftc. but i can't just sit back and wait for them to take action. when the scammers call i aggravate them so bad that they start yellin and hang up on me. i call them back and tell them "i warned yall, EVERY TIME yall call me playin on my phone i'm gonna call you and play on your em phone!" all of this is stemming from a PDL that i obtained through BMG  on the internet in 2007. i paid it off but i guess they want some more. i also told them the "the only thing you're gonna get from that debit card is your feelings hurt because i'm not loading a dime!"

I got a call from mr. smith (909-256-5500) Two days after payin off a 8,500 car loan. They tell me I owe $583 for a credit car  that was charged off 4 years ago. They went on to tell me they could take my house and car if i refused to set up at  "payment plan" with them. The more they call me the more research I do. I find out more cases of them scaming everyday. Mr smith talks to me about personal problems....what "real collection" agency would do that? Today he called again, he told me I had a court date. I asked for something in writing to verrify account numbers he offered to send me an email...which consist of old acct #"s before my accout was charged off. I went to two different court houses today for them to tell me I didnt have a court date and that it was a scam! What the SOB fails to see is, I know what collection agency has my accounts! My advice is, No one has money to throw away...I dont care how much you have you will NEVER have enough to GIVE to a scammer. Dig a little deeper before you start giving out account info!

I, too, received a call from this group some time ago. Since I'm retired and live in the Rancho Cucamonga area, I've taken to going down and watching the mailbox. I've taken several photos of the folks at the box, and of their vehicle's plates as they leave. I've started doing my on research into THEIR lives and am just about ready to exact my payments from THEM. Stay tuned, this oughta be fun...

The phone number that I got wasn't the same as the one listed above, but it is the same situation.  A guy named "Robert Butler" called and left a message on my voicemail telling me that I was being served papers and someone needed to be here to be able to accept them.  There was a number for me to call to give them other arrangements to deliver me the papers.  When I called today, this Robert guy told me that I owed a debt of $1000+ to Citi Bank for a Zales account that I opened.  The balance was unpaid, but it was never above $400 and even then with fees shouldn't have been over $1000.  Then he told me of lawyers fees I would have to pay if I went to court which is why they were serving me papers in the first place.  He told me that Citibank was pressing for a lein on my checking, wage garnishment, withholding my tax refund, and levying my property (which I don't have anyways).  He also wanted me to give him another phone number he could call me at and also wanted me to pay $225 today. I told him I didn't have it and would see wha tI could do.  When I told him I'd call him back he told me he could only hold the deal for 3 hours.  I went directly to my credit report which shows that this account isn't even on my report any more.  The phone number on my voicemail was 8886002465.  When he gave me his direct number, it was 9092568221.  Sounded like a scam so I found you guys.  Thanks for the info.

I would just like to confirm that I have experienced something very similar to what Myra has described in her post, and I am also in a financial bind due to medical debt and short term disability. The man I spoke with seemed very patient and kind and informative, but now I am questioning everything he told me. I will be addressing this with the company and proceeding as necessary with legal counsel.

One thing I forgot to point out that also didn't add up to me. I am a criminal justice major and I have dealt with the legal system and serving people with legal papers. I have NEVER seen a lawyer or lawyers office call ahead of time to let someone know they are being served and give options to stop it. If a business files papers with a lawyers office to sue someone, as far as I know, there isn't an alternative to stop the process. The bank would have already paid out legal fees to pursue the action, which brings me to another conclusion, why are they not asking for the legal fees that have been paid by the bank due to your "refusal to pay"? I am sure the bank isn't going to pay out more money to get what little amount they can out of you and be out more money then they were to begin with. That's just bad business on their part. All of this wasn't coming to me while I was talking to him the first time, but after playing and replaying the conversation in my head, there were so many inconsistencies that just doesn't add up to me.

I got a call from them yesterday. I thought it was accurate because he verified my social security number, my husbands name, my mother's name, and my father in law's name. That struck me a bit funny because my father in law lives in Korea so I have never put his name on anything but I had assumed that since he was on an insurance policy for a car I had a few years ago with me, that was how his name was showing up. When he verified my address he had the wrong lot number, that struck me a little funny because the lot number he stated doesn't even exists at that address, so I gave him the right one. I told this man that I hadn't paid the credit card because I simply couldn't. My husband and I have since separated and all the money I made went towards my rent and utilities. He asked if my husband was helping me or if he could give me the money and even suggested I divorced my husband so I could force him to give me more money a month! I agreed to the payment arrangement he suggested and asked for an address to send a money order to. He told me they didn't take money orders, I had to pay with a debit card or credit card. That didn't sound right to me to take a credit card for a bad credit card debit. When I told him I had neither, that I would rather send a money order, he asked if I could "borrow" someone elses account to pay it, I didn't like that either. He suggested that I go to Walmart and get a prepaid card and use it to make the payments. I had to first make a "deposit" on the account so the bank would accept the payment arrangement. He first asked for 150.00 and I told him I didn't have that, so he lowered it to 50.00. He told me that if I didn't call him back with the payment the next day, they would go ahead with the lawsuit. Something wasn't right, that was too easy to me, so I got online and did some research. Not only is this number listed on this site but several others as scams. So I called him today and explained what I found. I asked him to mail me some information that I could verify with the bank that I owed the money to and then I would pay. He claimed that people posted this stuff online because they don't like to be told they owe money or forced to pay and that I shouldn't believe everything I read online. I explained that if it wasn't on several websites I could understand what he was saying, but it's not just one website and I named off 5 to him that it was posted on. I also pointed out that his phone number was listed in Ontario Canada and that made me a little uncomfortable, he insisted that wasn't correct, he was not in Canada so I gave him the directory site that it listed the number at at address in Ontario Canada. I asked him again to send me something in mail to verify, he got irritated and offered fax or email, I refused and told him to send it to my mailbox directly, which irritated him even more. He asked for my address, I pointed out that he had my address, so he verified it again, and again, he gave the wrong lot number and it wasn't the one he stated the day before, so that shows me they never had the right address at all. Also, I have since moved from that address and had it changed with the post office. Had they sent me something in mail already like he claimed, they would have my new address. I didn't give him my new one cause it will redirected to me any way if they do send something out to me. He kept trying to convince me that he couldn't stop the lawsuit if I didn't pay something today, they would file the papers today. I told him to go ahead, I am already garnished for a medical bill, they can't garnish me again, and even if they could, they wouldn't get their money until after the medical bill was paid off, which will be another year or so, and by that time I will already have gotten my taxes and paid this credit card balance of 400.00 like I've been telling them I would. I'm so glad I decided to google those numbers. I can't afford to lose any money right now, and paying that would have hurt me financially bad. Thank ya'll so much for reporting this like you have, it helped me a lot!

I wouldn't pay them anything. I would also dispute the charges and ask them to prove that you owe THEM money.  I would report them to the BBB AND I would file a claim with the Fair Trade commission for harassment and deceptive credit collections. Ask a lawyer, especially if you've already settled this in the past. I would aslo dispute any entries that might show up on a credit report.

Debt Collector
I had a credit card from 10 years ago, it got charged off. Last November a company called wanting me to settle the debt. They had a website, were listed as a legitimate business, I paid them and then they went under. I found out later that I had been scammed. It cost me around $800.

What tipped me off, was that I'm now being called by the RS Group, or whoever this is, about paying off the same debt. I thought, how the f#$@ can I owe on this still? I did some research and found out I'd been scammed.

So these guys are calling often, leaving messages at work etc. I told them that I got scammed last year and what they are doing is identical to what happened to me last year. I asked if they could verify that they were a legitimate business and they said they were listed with the Secretary of State. That SOUNDED legitimate. They said they didn't need a website to be a business.

Yesterday I spoke with them again (after getting a message saying I was being served with legal documents) to try to find out more. I was told that they could still settle with me and gave me a very good deal on my debt. I explained that they didn't seem legitimate and that I needed some documentation by mail. They said 'sure' but that they weren't going to wait the three days for the mail to come to keep the settlement offer.

I'm not sure what to do. I obviously wanted to settle the debt, but now don't know if these folks are legitimate. They did send one email confirming the debt, but it looked pretty fishy. All that was included was:

I've called the original debt holder Bank of America and am in the process of tracking down who actually holds my debt. I'm worried though, as this is out of the statute of limitations for collection on debt in Arizona, if I should even bother. I mean, will it hurt my credit score if I call them, try to settle and they reopen a file they'd given up on long ago? (I read that somewhere) I did make payments on this for a long time and have paid more than the original debt back.

In all honesty, I've probably being paying scammers for years. Sheeesh. Boy did I learn my lesson. Don't borrow money, and if you have debt, pay that s*** off.
