No validation, no debt. It's that simple:

"IF they do not provide you with the verification of the debt, the debt is invalid and not subject to collection.  PAY NOTHING TO ANYBODY UNLESS THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH WRITTEN VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, AND ONLY THEN IF YOU FEEL THE DEBT IS VALID - otherwise, let them sue you for the debt, as a real law firm will only bring a legal action on a truly valid debt."

They just calked me again today.  Yesterday they said I had to pay $1200.00. In two hours or they would serve me court papers today she said they never called me yesterday but they will settle for $400.00 otherwise they will see me in court.  I asked for proof of the debt and she said they did not have to provide it.  SCAMMERS!  I'm filing complaints with every government agency on the planet.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

My dad was contacted by someone stating they were going to serve me subpoena papers at my parents house. my dad called the number of who was serving me. I called them and they gave me a case # and told me that I had until that evening to decide if i wanted to set up payments. they said i would be sued for 1,012 plus attorney fees of like 800 if i didn't set up payments before I was served. I live in a state with a 3 year statute of limitation. Its been four years. I was told their name was EPA Group on Friday and it's now Tuesday and I have until this evening to set up payments and she said she was calling from rcg litigation. So which is it? I was also told I'd be served yesterday and no one showed up.

These people call constantly and misrepresent themselves as process servers. They claim I'm being sued or alternatively that I will be sued on a time-barred debt. They're not only harassing me and my husband but contacting our relatives and his employer although they've been told not to. I've told them repeatedly they should go ahead and serve us if they intend to pursue legal action and I'll see them in court, but they just continue to call us all day long.
They don't want to identify themselves when they call, but it seems as though they've been contracted by Riexinger & Associates/Portfolio Recovery Associates to harass us.
I'm filing a complaint with the CFPB. I would urge anyone else being harassed to do the same.

I have cameras outside my home, I dare them to show up. My lovely german shepherd who is a retired police dog will have a nice time greeting them!! I plan to call them everyday and let them know they are the scum of this earth!! REPORT THEM RIGHT AWAY TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. OTHER NAMES OF PEOPLE WHERE ALSO JULIO! Bobby Roberts contacted my brother, my father, and my sister in law, because my wife 'owed' some money. He claimed to represent a lawyer. I told him to mail me a copy of the bill. He refused and became irate. I then became irate. He eventually hung up on me. I will call this number every day for the rest of my life and tell 'Bobby' just how evil of a person I think he is. It's a scam. I hate these people. They prey on the weak. Don't let them push you around.

Debt Collector
Just got a RUDE call from 909 456-1879. Looked up the number and it is a landline, in Ontario. This guy, who claimed to have a "case number", scared my senior father (75 years old) into thinking they were court processors and had a "case", so when I got the phone and asked them for the "case number" they replied, "oh, that's OUR internal number"....GET THAT....THEIR'S....NOT AN ACTUAL CASE NUMBER....See, if they had been a legit debt collector, they would identify the company name, address, and even give a proper name. In CA, at least, if ANYONE calls you claiming to collect a debt, they HAVE TO, within 5 days of making the call, send to you, in WRITING a follow up letter.  They can't THREATEN you for not wanting to talk to them, or etc....This guy got his underwear in a bunch (I guess I was asksing too many questions) and said he was going to contact "elder abuse" against me because he heard me on the phone yelling at my father (which wasn't true) but this guy was using SCARE TACTICS....DON'T GIVE THESE SCUM BAGS YOUR PERSONAL INFO...TELL THEM YOUR GOING TO REPORT THEM TO THE STATE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE!!!!!!
