Same thing just took place on my cell. I'm sure it is a scam. the guy was very much "cold calling" off of a list. He seemed to be speaking from some sort of script with lots of threatening tones and verbiage. The guy acted very surprised that i had not heard of Davis and assoc and how good it was that he decided to call me. He had some information about me. I am glad these postings are here on this site. He was really convincing, at one point i said, "I will wait for you to serve me! This seems like a scam.... " jerk!

I received a call this morning, similar to above, from a private number and an individual asking if someone over the age of 18 would be home tomorrow to receive legal papers that they needed to serve to an individual by my name.  They gave me the number for Davis & Associates with a reference number.  When I called that number, the individual who answered only answered with "How may I direct your call?" without providing any further information as to whom I had called.  When I said I was calling regarding legal paperwork, I was transferred to an individual named Ernie, who told me that I had a very serious charge against me for a credit card account that had been opened in 1990 and defaulted on in 2005, and that I owed $3000+ because of accumulated fees on the account, and the original amount owed was $900+, but they were willing to settle with me today for $600+ (I don't recall the exact dollar figures).  When I refused, stating I had no memory of such a credit card account, and that I needed proof that I indeed owed that money, since I have had NO bills, statements, or other type of communication from the named credit card company over the last 7 years indicating that I owe that debt, Ernie began to get hostile with me.  He told me that this was a very serious legal matter, and that if I did not settle the debt that I was morally obligated to pay, I would have to explain to the judge on my court date why I did not think I owed that money, and the judge wouldn't care.  Again, he tried to get me to agree to pay $600 now to settle the case, but I refused, and insisted that I was not going to pay any to anyone over a debt that I have no proof that I owe.  I was firm and held my ground, and eventually he told me that I was being redundant and hostile, and that he was going to have to let me go because he had a lot of paperwork to do.  He indicated that he was going to put a handwritten letter in my file that contained what had been discussed in the phone call.  What really concerned me, however, is the fact that he had the last 4 digits of my social security number.  My husband called the number back a few minutes later, was answered with "How may I direct your call?" to which he replied "I don't know, you called me."  He was transferred to Ernie, and when my husband asked what the name of the business was and where they were located, he was hung up on.  I did call my state attorney general's office and reported the call to the consumer protection division.

I got a similar message on my cell phone on 10-22-12. Same thing, no name left, no law firm name left.  Very suspicious.  If there was anything that I would have had, it's time barred by about six years or so.

No company name, no employee name. These A-holes know my name, my phone number, and where I live! And I just moved a couple months ago. WTF?! He definitely had a threatening tone to the call.

What the heck!!!! I just received the same call in the exact same context.  I was told I owed on a credit card from 11 years ago. I told Mrs. Garcia...That she needed to send me proof of a settlement...after that the phone went dead and she never got back to me!  Nor have I ever received a email with proof of settlement. I'll see where this goes...

I received a call from a private caller. I answered it and he asked would someone over the age of 18 would be home to serve me papers. I asked what was it in regards to and he made it seem like he couldn't read the number. He also told me once I speak with the attorney they would then inform him whether or not to put serving the papers on hold. I always thought once that process is in to serve papers it's a GO!! Once he got the # he told me it was from David & A** which the # was 909-784-5482 and he also given me a ref #. Once I got thru I was told that they were on the other line with and attorney and she made it seem like she had to pull my file and call me back..I believe that I had this call before and no one has ever showed up to my door. Is this a scam? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

A gentelmen called and stated that he needed the address to make sure that it was correct one, because my name appeared on documents that needed to be served to me.  He asked for my supervisor and was informed that she was not available, so he left a telephone & ref number for me to return the call.

I also got a phone from this number.  The guy stated that he had some papers that needed to be served at this address (my place of employment) and that I needed to contact him  When I wasn't available he asked for my supervisor, was informed that she was not in either.  Well, then he said I'll just leave the number and have her call back, because I don't wanna disrupt her place of employment and blah blah blah.  He left the number of 909-784-5482 and a ref no.

Got the same message as others about a civil matter.  When talking to get company name, the "rep" accused me of trying to interrogate them. They told me I could hang up and get served papers because they have two other calls on the line.  Very rude and combative over the phone.  We will see if any "papers" are actually served.

I think its a scam to gather more information than your name and address for identity theft or credit card fraud.
