It's downright harassment from GSU. They call all the time to alumni asking for money. When you ask them to please not call again and remove your name from the call list? they still call again!

If you have found yourself on this page, you are probably wondering why you are receiving a call from (912) 478-1250 or (912) 478-1515. Those are the current phone numbers of the Georgia Southern University Phonathon call center.

Phonathon is a year round program housed in the Eugene M. Bishop Alumni Center on the campus of Georgia Southern University. Current undergraduate students from across campus meet nightly to speak with alumni, parents, and friends of Georgia Southern and raise private support for various services, centers, and programs. These initiatives are funded by the Georgia Southern University Foundation, Inc. No calls from this line should be considered a ?scam.? In addition, the callers are student employees of the University.

It should also be noted that ALL ?912-478-?.? numbers are calls from a location on Georgia Southern University?s campus. 912 is the area code for Statesboro and southeast Georgia. 478 stands for ?GSU? on your phone keypad.

Received a call yesterday from this number claiming they worked for college and were checking on my son.  It upset our family thinking something has occurred when in fact it has not.  The caller names candy asked for phone numbers to add to their list in the system.  The college obviously has a data leak and information has been compromised.  

Same thing... Picked up and heard girls in the background but no one would say anything...

These calls are coming from the alumni and fundraising office.  Even if you ask to not be called, they will keep calling to ask for donations.  I spoke to a sweet girl from Japan who was trying to raise money for International student scholarships. She got a little upset when I told her that I also worked at a University, and we didn't give out scholarships to International students because we feel that we should help to educate our own students from the US first...  They still call me.

Amen! i just had a spell because this number called me at work and before I could pick up the line, they hung up! I instantly knew that the area code was Statesboro where my daughter is a student and panicked thinking something had happened to her! They should never do that to a parent!

It is not the university calling. It is a person who lives in a mental institution in Statesboro. I met the person once and made the mistake of giving them my number. Ever since then, I get random prank calls from the number a few times per year.

Its the college asking parents and alumni for money. They will never stop calling even if you ask
or if you are on do not call registry. It does not apply to them.

Thanks for the clarification, but why don't the students leave a message?  One return call with a donation would be better than none and people would know exactly where the call came from and why.  Also, when I see this number coming through I always think it might be an emergency on campus as my son is a student there.  Again, the caller should leave a message to alleviate that concern for parents as well.  Thank you.

It' the Georgia Southern Phonathon. Parents and alumni will receive these calls forever. I used to work there, and the calls aren't pranks and no one is hacking the number. Alot of times the kids don't want to beg for money so they hang up when someone answers and show their supervisor that the client hung up. You should call the alumni association and ask for Gloria Goolsby. She is the head and she would love to know her employees are hanging up. She can look at records and find out exactly who is hanging up. Good luck. Your kids are fine.

Calls received from 912-478-1250 are calls from the Georgia Southern University Phonathon Team. We call parents, but the calls are not affiliated with the Parents Association in any way.

I also recieved calls from this number. My son attends GA Southern. It is suppose to be part of the Parent Association and a survey they give. I got a young lady on the phone during dinner one evening and I asked her to call back since we were having dinner.

It's GSU calling to ask for $ donations.  They have called me SO many times that I know "who" it is when they call.

I just got a call from this number.  I answered and got no response.  (I also have a child at GSU.)  Would be nice if the school looked into this and got things straightened out.

It is a fundraising campaign for Georgia Southern. Its students who ask to update your address and then ask for a gift.  If you don't want to receive phonecalls, just tell them to take you off their list. They will say "No problem, thanks!" and end the call.

I graduated from ga southern in 2003 and am sick and tired of getting these calls. They are from the ga southern phoneathon. They got enough of my money already and arent getting anymore! Not to mention, even if i wanted to donate i would not simply because of these harrassing phone calls! I say boycott the school because of it.

This number calls me once every few months. I have answered before.  It is students from Ga Southern trying to get you to update your Ga Southern info.  (I went to school there).  After updated, they ask you for money for the school.  I always say "no" and they just say "okay thanks".  I bet if you picked up and asked them to take you off the list, they would.

Received a call from this # at 7:30 Thurs night and I did not answer...I returned the call at 8:45 a.m. and no answer.  If it was the campus police or someone important, they would've answered the phone so I have blocked the caller from my phone.

The university needs to know about this practice as it seems to be upsetting the parents that are getting these "hang up" calls from GSU.  We too have a student there and I was worried until I contacted our student to be sure he was OK.  Not a good way to solicit money GSU.

The CID just said Statesboro - no msg left. Huge increase in unknown calls lately. What's up? Can't someone stop this SOMEHOW? The calls occur at different times of the day. I really hate it. I haven't done anything in particular for our number to be contacted by these unscrupulous - hesitate to call them - BUSINESSES!

I want to know who called me.

5/25/11 - Just got a call from this number. No one said anything when I answered. I graduated from GSU in 2006................
