I won 255,069 from Reader's digest!!! Don't believe them!

I too got a check this weekend for the amount of $4,970.20. In the letter it does state that it was to cover the expenses for my $500,000 winnings. What kind of threw me off though is they did not want me to deposit it into my bank and it did state "Please be advised all recipients information is confidential and collecting of any personal or bank information is prohibited by our privacy policy", so that being said, they obviously didnt care to much about my banking information.

When I called the number on the letter that said I had to activate the check, low and behold, that number does not exist. So that is telling me right there that it is a scam. Im so tired of these outfits sending me large checks. I get them in the mail several times a month and Ive reported a couple to the local police, but they have done nothing about it. It would be nice to know how they are getting my name and address.

I too got this check. What happens if you do deposit it? As long as you don't spend the money until it "clears". Somebody sure did put alot of effort into this scam. Something that tipped me off was the date on the check is just about a month old, the post mark is also from a different state than the return address which niether match with the information inside on the letter. I'd like to know how they got my name. I know it's out there and stuff but what did I fill out that got me on their list?  Good luck I hope nobody lost money to these jacka$$e$

I just received a letter with a check that looks real.  The check is from Farmers Insurance Group. The check is for $4965.00 and the letter says I was the Grand winner of $500000.00
If it were real it would be so wonderful. How can they do this to people and get away with this?  Same deal.....phone numbers to call back ar from Georgia and British Columbia.

I just received my letter this weekend.  The first thing that tipped me that this may not be on the up and up is the postage return address is out of New York and the postage was stamped out of Seattle WA... Hmmmm.
The second thing are the phone numbers are exchanges in Georga and Brit Columbia.  WTF!  Ok, as i was a bit excited initally upon receiving the letter that soon calmed down to this is a SCAM and there is no such Readers Digest contest that does this.

Same thing.. big winner!! Instructed to deposit check written by bristol west insurance group and call back in four days.. SCHMUCK!!  Hope these cockroaches rot in hell!!!

I feel these people are full of s*** and need to be stoped before someone catches a forgery case. what the f*** is the FBI going to do not s*** because if they were going to take care of the problem they would have stoped sending checks to people. I feel these people need to get their a***s kick royaly blood.

I have the check from CHASE that has not been deposited, I just received it.  Is there a contact person who we can contact to help catch these people?

received letter dated Jan. 11, 2010 I won a drawing for 355,000 with a check. from Jon Bencher.  I called and got a spanish person who said deposit the check and call him after I deposit the check.  Now I know this is a scam and how can they be stopped.  I feel for the people that have lost money but if you are like me you dont have any to give away. I still have the check, not sure if it will help to catch these low lifes.  I am depositing the check to see if it clears and if it does I am taking the money, but I know it wont.  How can they be stopped?

just got a letter from them claiming that i won a drawing for $355069, w/ an enclosed check to "cover some expenses" i would encounter claiming my funds. glad to know that i had my wits about me to double check to see if it was a scam... i am a college student, this money, if legit, would have been a godsend.

I also just got a check for $4,722.91. I was told to deposit it immediately by someone at this number. I DID NOT deposit the check. Knowing it was a scam I went along for the ride. The check is of course no good and will not clear the bank. They then tell you to wire them thousands of dollars to receive my "winnings" of $255,069.00. That way they make thousands and you owe your bank thousands. Amazing they can't track these people down!

I just received a letter indicating I won 255,069 from Reader's digest; it included a check for 3797.06 from Hilite International to help "cover any charges"  The number to call was 912-480-0353.  I checked the Reader's Digest site and they indicated this type of activity is definitely a SCAM!

i called them and the said i won a large sum of money. it was a scam!!!!!!!!!!!
