My wife and I just moved to Blue Springs Missouri.  I got one of these cards as well.  Nice blue envelope with blue card.  Italic font.  Looks pretty official.  2nd Notice is printed diagonally across the top left of the inside card.

Return address was 713 N. Lindenwood Ste B
Olathe, KS 66062 on the outside of the card.

Inside:

I was immediately suspicious and google'd it.  Found this link.  Looks like they've been at this practice for about 5 + years anyway.   Must be successful at some level or they've have given up the practice.  I'd never deal with a company that practiced shady stuff like this.  I hope they fold.  Thanks for the heads up to the previous posters.

I recently purchased a home in Prairie Village, KS and I received the same letter in the mail. The company name on this one was "Welcome Home". Looks like they've changed up the name because people were catching on.

Lady sounded very nice, said that the local vendors contribute to "gift packages" for new home owners in the greater KC Area. Said that the water treatment guy will come out and test the water and bring all the gifts with him. Nope! Consistent with the majority here she mentioned that both my partner and I be home at the same time.

I asked if they had a website.. "Haven't got it setup yet". Asked if they are recognized by BBB.. she mumbled a bit and changed the subject. Huge red flag.

Can't be certain if it's a scam per se but seems fishy fishy all the same and I don't care to find out.

Thanks for all the comments in this blog, very happy I stumbled upon it!

Yep.  The Internet just saved "Marilyn" and her little scam a bit of trouble from yours truly after getting her little "you have a package waiting to be picked up" note.

I, too, received a card from "Hello Neighbors" indicating they had a parcel for me and to call Marilyn.  I, too, recently moved.  Thank you to all who posted.  I agree that this is deceptive marketing and should be stopped.

I received this cute little envelope with a matching page inside.  I was very curious since I've just purchased my home but am in the process of renovations so I have not moved in and am not using the address for anything not strictly related to the house.  My new address is in KCMO so receiving something from an Olathe address was an immediate "red flag".  If you are in Olathe and I am in KCMO your perception of "neighbors" is a little skewed so I called the number and after Marilyn's recording asked for my name, a phone # to call me back at and the parcel # for the gift she has for me I simply hung up and googled "Hello Neighbors Olathe".  I think this company should be reported to the better business bureau as scam artist since they are being deceptive about their actual reason for contacting people.  I called from a roll over line at my office and hope they call that number back so I can give them a free piece of advice...  What a waste of time!

Glad I checked the interwebs.

Got a letter in the mail and it seemed fishy. Looked up the return address and it was in the same building as plumbing and water treatment businesses.

Thanks for the confirmation everybody!

And Hello NEIGHBORS! :-P

Hello Neighbors is a group of local merchants that has come together to welcome  people to their new home. We DO NOT give $$ gift cards to home depot or any restaurants. This is a legitimate business with very nice gifts. It is NOT a scam. It is a way for us to advertise our products. Everything in the parcel is free.

HAHAHA!!!

Msg to Hello Neighbors,

Your people that you "employee" are quite funny.  I, same as all the above people, recieved this letter from hello neighbors stating I have a parcel wating for me.  So I called the number provided and spoke with sounds like the same lady as the rest of you.  Got the same story as well, but right before we disconnected the phone call I asked "Marilyn" a simple question and had to laugh at the answer!

Me:  Let me ask you one quick question.
Marilyn: Ok whats that?
Me: How many people actually fall for this SCAM!
Marilyn: Alot actually.

Got to give them credit for honesty?? lol

Received same card as Raquel, no return address.  Didn't call them, obviously a sales ploy, not expecting any "parcels".  If it was legit, would show up on a map search.  I use google voice and my area code/prefix match theirs, so that's most likely a google voice number.  Probably using it as a front number, so they can block particular calls/texts from people pissed at them.

I too am a new homeowner and got this exact card in the mail.  I called, they asked for my parcel number, and knew my name from that.  They said that had a care package for me from businesses in the Greater Kansas City area and offered me 2 memberships to Gold's Gym, a $100 gift certificate to some rug place, and various other coupons if I had my water tested.  I asked if the package could just be mailed to me and they said it had to be the whole deal, all or nothing, and the water tester would bring the gifts with him.  I told them I was very uncomfortable with someone coming into my house.  I just got a bad feeling from them.

KIMBERLY  maybe you should have looked up the right business before judging because this site you are on is for KANSAS customers only and you live in BAKERSFIELD! If you had visited the right site you would have had better info.

I called the number on the card only to have to leave a message. When my call was returned the girl on the phone was nice and explained that they wanted to give me dinner for 2 at Olive Garden. But I had to agree to have my water tested. They understood that I wouldn't want to buy any thing, they just wanted to leave me with a test reading. Originally I agreed, but I decided to call back and cancel the appointment. i just got a bad feeling about it. When I called back I had to leave another message. Hopefully they don't show up.

661-321-0500 this number was on the card. I reverse searched it and it doesn't match the name on the card and it's not affiliated with the company they said they were calling for.

strange....

That number is listed on a "Hello Neighbors" postcard scam I recieved in the mail not too long ago.  My advice: Don't call them back.  From what I understand, they will try to offer you a free dinner gift card, then try to sell you stuff!

Definitely a scam.  They send a post card to newly registered house purchasers stating you have a parcel to pick up.  The parcel has a number associated with it, which I'm sure is then used to track you as a potential customer in their database system.  The phone number they say to call is unregistered and is 913-538-5777.  Just completely ignore them.

I don't know if this is a scam or not but from the other sites I have read from, this is a company that is trying to get you to agree to have a sales man come to your house to sell you a water system and give you gift cards. One person allowed them to come to their house and it was over 2 hours of a presentation and then they give you a $10 Home Depot gift card.  Thanks to so many people giving their experience on the web, I am able to know what this "parcel" is.  This is just a way for sales people to know where you live to continue annoying you to buy things you don't need.  My advice is to just throw the postcard away and don't call.

We got the same notecard, and then a phone call came today.  Until I found this weblog I had assumed that the Hello Neighbors was like a "Welcome Wagon" type of visit.  I listened to the woman for a bit and was almost ready to agree, when she began to insist that both my husband and I be present for the presentation. I quickly said that we had no time for that and hung up. I too am very happy to find this information via Google.  Thanks for sharing.
