This guy needs to be caught. He's trying to scam me now. He told he didn't want to sell this house in Yonkers,NY but lucky for me I drove up there while they were having an open house.He told me he was in Chicago. I told him I would fly out there to personally meet him he told me no. Yesterday I told him I was in Chicago and would meet up w/him today, he said he was in Florida. A red flag came up when the amount for the rental was a bit too low for the area in question.I hope they catch him.

Same story as you, William. This is supposedly a number belonging to a Robert Cooper - about a house for rent in Dallas, Texas - 6692 Clayton Avenue - but with the first month's rent and deposit to be sent to an Everett Spates at 355 Reuben White Drive, Crosby TX 77532 (that seemed weird but a lot of other things did too!).
He stated he moved to Kansas for work reasons and his "lovely wife" suggested they not sell their house but rent it out. He mentioned foreclosure and stated they had had a bad experience with their Realtor and a previous tenant and had to completely fix the house.
The rent seemed low. Everything was ok to have - dogs, cats, utilities were all of a sudden also included etc. but we'd have to take good care of the house and he'd come and check on it/us every 3 months.
I've pasted an excerpt from one of the emails he sent me below...asking for references, proof of income, my current mailing address - and the money the same day...BEWARE!!! Notice the verbiage and bad writing/spelling...which also made me question this person's legitimacy. I did actually speak to him on the phone at the number (201) 204-3671 (New Jersey area code) which he also gave me (see posting from Teesha) and be advised that he is definitely foreign. The connection was terrible and he tried to cut me off saying that he had sent me an email and to read it and just email him back. He never wanted to call me although I'd asked him to several times before.
Here's the except from an email he sent:
"I also want you to know that the rent fee is among the house utilities,so you can use them anytime but make sure you take proper care of our property.I will come and pay you a visit by June-July after you have moved into my house to see how you are maintaining it.I need to some references and proof of income.I knew how this may look skeptical to you, but i must tell you the truth and i must be honest with you,we are God fearing family,we treat others the way we want them to treat us because we believe what goes around comes around. I don't have any proof to give you not until we learn on how to trust each-other and allow trust to be our watch WORD,as my words will always be my BONDS.
A journey of a thousand miles begin with a step and i am ready to rent my home by taking this step,you can count on me.I am receiving the payment in other for us to take this home off market and make sure it been secure for you and ship the keys and all paper work to you ASAP.I am giving you 100% guarantee that am honest person and when you send the payment you will get the keys in return and move into my home as my tenant.Then if you like my home you can start renting and move in when you move in the rent start counting.I will want you to send the payment through money gram or western union,i would want to have the payment today so that i can take my home off market for you because of other people so they won't keep contacting me, I hope you understand where i am coming from.Email me so that i can quickly mail the keys to you along with the tracking number through FedEx to your current home address,i will also overnight the key to you,but if you don't like my home i will refund your money to you as soon as possible without any delay then you return the keys back but if you like my home you can start renting. Thank goodness I got really suspicious after receiving this and did more research and found all your postings. I am going to call the Kansas City Police and DEFINITELY report him and hopefully it will do some good. I found the home on both trulia.com and hotpads.com - I think his reply came via hotpads.com.

Same number (913) 945-1232. Claming to be Robert Cooper and renting a home in Dallas Texas while he was living in Kansas City, Kansas 66104. A red flag went up when he asked for money sent via money gram to a Nannette Young @ 511 N 57th Terr in Kansas. He listed the home on Trulia.com. This person is getting the info from public records to make his listings seem legit.
All persons fooled need to call Dansas City Police and report to stop this person form doing this to anyone else. By no way im I including Trulia.com in this scam process at this time.

This guy is scamming me too! I'm the Realtor for a house that is for sale in NY, all of a suddent I'm getting calls for the house rental at that address! And its not for rent. Also, he's emailing the potential tenants with an email address that is very similar to the actual homeowners name, so it sounds very credible!
BEWARE of these guys, always work with a licensed real estate agent -- a "REALTOR".
Dont rent through Craigslist or any of these bogus websites, if you can't meet an agent at a legitimate office, do not work with them!
They'll steal your money, give you keys and a fake lease, and then you can deal with the nightmare!

This guy is claiming to be Mr. Garcia renting a house at 24476 Robie Court, Moreno Valley CA 92551 they are also using the number 2012043671. They posted through a rental sight and got me for $1000 and now I cant afford to move into another house. JERKS stole my deposit money!!!!!
