I am a retired police officer.  I doubt this call is from any police force, since most police forces are not allowed to solicit on the phone.

When the scammers call I advise them this is Agent _________ speaking and that they have contacted a secure (WITPRO) witness protection location and all incoming calls whether emanating from a landline, VOIP, disposable cell, Google Voice, Magic Jack or any other virtual number has already been traced to the actual physical location of the caller. They are told in no uncertain terms that their location will be visited shortly by agency personnel and now that they have been placed on notice and documented in the system any further unauthorized calls

Despite being on the DNC list, I get repeated calls from this number.  I look at my caller ID and then let the machine pick up.  They immediately hang up.

I got a call from this #, only 30 seconds after another suspicious call from NV (I'm in NY) that came back o numerous people/ places including the box office for a boxing venue in Lake Tahoe. Could be anyone; I just let any call I don't know ring on & on, it's their dime. Answer and they know they've found a live #.

Rang a few times. I did not answer. No message.

I forgot to mention that I called the State Police in Albany and they said only donate to the state troopers PBA or your local PBA, or anything that involves or includes the words Police Benevolent Assoc.  Not these clowns.  They never heard of them.  I think they are illegal and are pocketing every dime.  

Dang "State Troop" (914-219-0081) called me today for the 1st time in a year and my heart skipped a beat because my wife and son had left 20min. before and traveling on the NYS Thruway.  Fricking idiots.  Then I remembered them from last year and did not answer it.  I should have..  They called about a year ago and said they were with the State Troopers which is misleading.  They are impersonating a peace officer.  I kept it short and hung on them after I told them I was not interested and I did not want them to ever call me again.  Apparently they took me off their list, but apparently only for 12 months.  If they keep calling you, just answer the phone and tell them not to bother you again and that you are recording the call.  They have to legally take you off their list if you ask them not to call again.  

How can this go on for almost a year.. Just got the same call.. As soon as my answering machine picks up they hang up.. Filed a complaint but that doesn't do any good..    

I called my local State Troopers and they DO NOT solicit monetary donations over the phone. I would recommend filing a complaint with the local attorney general office. I intend to do that and see what happens.

This number called and hung up as soon as my answering machine picked up. When I called it back, I reached a recording that said "Hello, no one from the association is available to take your call and to leave your name and number and you would be called back". There is no way I am leaving any number or my name. I will report it to the donotcall registry.

These guys calling ARE NOT FROM THE NY STATE POLICE! They are just a solicitation company trying to relieve YOU of your hard earned money. I would expect that very little actually goes to the State Police...AND, guess what??? You cannot actually stop them from calling with any of the Do Not Call Lists. They claim they are exempt from this, as the are a Non For Profit Group...soliciting funds for the NT State Troopers.

I had been called 2 weekends in a row and both times...asked them to take me off their calling lists. The 2nd call I spoke at length with a rep whom actually gave me more info on who they are and so on... but, I'm not swallowing any of their crap. If you want to donate any $$$ to the NY State Police... call them directly and see whom they actually recommend. I'm sure it's not these guys.

Call received 10/22 @ 3:53 PM. ID reads "STATE TROOP". Did not answer and no message was left. Appears highly suspicious.

Caller ID says: State Troop. Calls a few times each day, all week long. I am so sick of these calls that I have tried twice to answer and nobody is there and it disconnects immediately. It usually rings only three times and then hangs up, if not answered. Phishing scammers.

I only picked up because it was a NY area code and it said State Troop as in State Troopers. There should be a law against pretending to be a law enforcement agency. The guy sounded like a mobster and said they were doing a campaign against drunk driving and wanted me to help. I said sorry and hung up. I know the police don't solicit by phone.

Charitys, some survey's and political calls are exempt from the DNC which only keeps the honest business's honest. It does not protect you from the illegal telemarketers, scammers, frauds and extortion scammers. Most of those use dialers  which are not going to recognize any unlisted numbers, they are programmed to dial Insert what ever number here to insert what ever number here.

Most of the ones I listed exempt will remove you when asked, you can contact the political party's and have them place you on their internal DNC, and you can sign up for the political DNC list:

What I did was this, having signed with the poltical DNC, only one called, I went to his website directly and told him DNC and gave him the url for the political dnc list and told him to use it - worked well.  

You can buy a call blocker device for the others or a phone either. Amazon sells several devices and call blocking phones. The T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker sells for under 60 bucks on Amazon and can block up to 1500 numbers.

With the government sites down, its hard to get any reports filed, but you should report those calls you get so the info is available to law enforcement agency's.

I got a call last week, told them all donations I make are for local area.  Today got call, again scared asking for my husband by name, he has been deceased for 5 yrs yesterday,  If we can get on "do not call" why are certain solicitors & politicians exempt from calling all days & hours.  I am a senior and have unlisted phone for a reason!!

I've also been getting these phone calls for a long time now. Someone told me once to get a horn and when they call blow it into the phone. Not sure if this works. I haven't tried it yet I definitely would like them to stop calling. I don't even answer my calls any more . I let the answering machine get it. It still upsets me and wish they would stop.

Keep getting calls from this number.  Answered  one day and they asked for Helen.  I told them she passed away and they clicked off.  The next day I had the same call on the caller ID and the answering machine asking for Helen again.  This has spooked me out and I would really like it to stop.

They seem to come through in waves.  We have been getting them for the past few weeks (again).

Caller ID'd as 914 219 0081 State Troop. I did not answer and no message was left. Notice the ID was "state troop" and not State Trooper". Very subtle way of making you think it is the State troopers. Don't fall for it. If you consider all these phone calls to be scams, you will be ahead of the game. Our DNC people are the ones who should be furloughed during this govt. shutdown, and maybe even keep them furloughed. What a bunch of freaks getting paid too much to do so little.

Received a call from this number at dinner time last night asking for $.  When I said "No" I was asked to send a smaller amount, again said No and that i know that the State Troopers are taken care of the reply was " Oh" and then click..hung up!!!!!!!!!!!

Trisha, you can block calls on your landline. I do with with a call blocker unit, which I might add, has this number on block since last year. They are high-pressure sleazeballs who pretend they are troopers calling with respect to the latest sad story which you can resolve by donating your money, most of which goes to the telemarketer.

I have a Digitone blocker and it is the best hundred bucks I ever spent when it comes to Peace of Mind. No I do not work for them nor do I own stock or anything else. I have a phone from a second set of phones, which is not hooked to my blocker, which would ring once when a blocked call comes in if I had the ringer on. So I turned the ringer off, but I can still see on the ID who has been TRYING to harass me. I check it once in awhile so I can laugh at them for not reaching me. I checked that phone today and saw this number and decided to do the old 800 Notes trace to refresh my memory.  I remember when these thieves could bother me every day and never let up. These guys are like clockwork. They will NEVER leave you alone until you trash them from ringing into your number. Buy a call blocker, whatever brand you choose, and put yourself out of this misery. You can even block entire exchanges to zap those sleazebags who have a boatload of phone numbers to keep calling you from.

The "State Trooper" numbers are also exempt from the DNC list since they are a "charity". Not that it matters if they weren't exempt. We all know that the DNC list isn't worth spit and has been circumvented in every possible way. I am convinced that if we want to stop these parasites, we are going to have to do it ourselves, the government and their relatives on patronage salaries, sitting on their butts over at the DNC office, aren't going to do it for us. Our only worthwhile tool right now is a call blocker. And the added benefit comes during election time when all the greedy politicians (who exempted themselves from DNC so THEY can harass you) can't get through to you either.

It's hard for me to believe that impersonating a police officer isn't illegal,and the phone line can't be traced.
