Got my first call from this number today. Went to voice mail but no message was left, just a click on the line, just enough for the VM to treat it as a message. I quickly added this number to my blocked list. I bought this new phone system about two months ago and I have already entered 78 numbers to the blocked caller list. Fortunately the system will block 250 numbers. The blocked number never rings your phone. You can block any number with this system even Out of Area and Number Unknown. It is a really good, inexpensive solution to the scam calling business. It is made by Panasonic and sells for less than $100. It is the only thing that keeps me from going crazy. I get on average at least 6 or more scam calls per day. It seems to be a big racket for criminals.

They are being blocked by NoMoRobo after 1 ring.

NoMoRobo (at NoMoRobo.com). This was the winner of the contest that the FTC ran last year. While not the best solution, it is a start. Check them out.

While 1 ring can be annoying it is still somewhat satisfying. Also, NoMoRobo's blocking frees up my phone's blocking list and my Verizon blocking list for annoying (so-called) charities,  surveys, and political calls (which have picked up again) from various right-wing crazies.

Note #1: You need to have "simultaneous ring" from your phone carrier. The website can check that for you. I use Verizon FiOS Digital Voice and "simultaneous ring" is included in my package. If your carrier does not include this feature, call them and demand it or change carriers.

Note #2: They block RoboCalls. Not political, charity or surveys. That follows the TCPA rules.

Note #3: If you get a call that is not blocked, you can go online and report it to NoMoRobo (See Note #2)

I can't help but wonder if all of these calls, from many numbers, aren't somehow related to the (probable) scam being run by entrepreneur Mike Melton and SecurityAlarmNow.com on TV (1-888-292-4750). Illegal telemarketing calls are a standard in the telemarketer/entrepreneur toolbox.

He's touting home security systems in TV ads designed to look like professional, third-party interviews. The ads always run during either the noon or evening news which is probably designed to attach a certain amount of credibility to them. He is introduced a an "expert" on home security but a search reveals no background in anything resembling home security. His expertise is in call center management (i.e. telemarketing), sales, and marketing. His runs a telemarketing business involving his Dish Network dealership and ADT Security dealership.

If you are among the first 20 to call (noon, evening, multiple stations, day after day, week after week, month after month) you get a $100 gift card. The cost to sign up for the ADT service is $99. Interestingly enough, ADT doesn't currently charge anything to sign up. Therefore he makes $99 for each sucker. He also neglects to mention that it is his own people who do the installing and who service the system for the first 90-days. There is no mention of  the cost of equipment and therein lies the basis of most of the complaints about his company. Apparently he is installing equipment at his own prices, not those of ADT.

6/26/14  1:30PM  Unknown caller - Robotic message saying due to recent criminal activity in my area, 5 homes have been chosen to receive  GE Home security offering a Onstar security system for free.  Must agree to allow them to place a small solar sign on my property.

Interesting call considering there recently was a robbery/suicide in my area.  Is this the reason for the scammers to jump on the band wagon and call local numbers?

didn't answer. no message. callback gets you a machine that says press one if you don't want anymore calls regarding their "special promotions." If I wanted their special promotions I would not have put my number on the DNC list.

Received a call - ID says "Home Security".  I answered - said "Hello" two or three times, put them on Speakerphone and after a while, they hung up and I got the "If you wish to make a call ----- message.

Is this a legit company, or someone casing our homes?

Yep.  Got an attempted call.  Didn't answer.  Very foolish to answer unknown numbers.  If it's important enough to call in the first place, it's important strategy to leave a message.  They left no message.  Must be spam sponsored by an Obama minion.  Fugg 'em and feed 'em fish heads.
