Now you know, as millions have discovered, that verbal demands do not work on a high volume junky debt collector like PRA. You must get off the phone and put your cease-comm on paper as I've already discussed.

The DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales, meaning all debt collectors are exempt. This fact was not kept secret from you when you registered your numbers. The following URL links to the FTC FAQ page which the DNC site *twice* coaxed you to read. See items 28 through 32.

Debt Collector
Portifolio has called my home a total of 30 times since January of this year until today. They r looking for someone who does not live here anymore. My calls are from 8:34am till 8:56pm.When I do pick up the phone at 8pm I've told them over & over not to call.Well now i am putting them on my National Do Not Call registry.I'll see if that works if not I will find a way to stop theses calls.I didn't have a house phone for a couple of years. My husband & I have cell phones. But the house phone was apart of Comcast triple play. It stinks!

Plenty can be done, but it hinges on whether PRA thinks it has a claim on you. If so, by law the collector needs to send you a dunning letter promptly, within five days of first contact. If not, PRA has either violated FDCPA or is merely skip tracing for someone else.

If there is zero chance you could be held to pay some old debt, send a cease-comm notice. If you are less certain, draft a letter disputing the claim and requesting validation, adding that "all calls are inconvenient". (In your case that may be very true.) Send whatever letter via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how and why to draft them.

"They can not call you at night ..."

08:55 PM must not qualify as night where you are. The FDCPA allows a daily 13 hour call window beginning at 08:00 AM in your time zone. Only state law or a notice revoking call permission could overcome this.

If one is able to steer a conversation so that information only flows from the collector to consumer, violations of law could occur, useful for retaliation in court. If your lips are too loose, this strategy is not for you.

Otherwise these prior comments on PRA are fairly accurate, and most apply to many other high volume / low scruples collectors. Learn to defend and exercise your rights as an alleged debtor.

Debt Collector
This caller is Portfolio Recovery Associates. They are bottom feeder debt collectors. Most of the debt they buy is well past the age to file any action on. Often this old charged of debt is false, and Portfolio will try to collect on it any way. They ignore the fact of fraud, age of debt, or proper documentation. They hope by calling you they can strong arm you to pay. Check the facts such as if your debt is past your states SOL for any legal action. If so do not answer any calls from these people. You can not win on the phone with them. They are trained to hound you for money no matter what you say. Do not admit to any thing or tell them you will pay them. To do so will result in more calls and you may re start the clock on old closed debt.

FYI they can call you every day, and often do. They can not call you at night, but can call on all seven days. They have about 100 numbers to call from. They will show up as city names only. The can call even if you are on the do not call list. To stop them you will need to send a C&D letter. Look up more info for that.

Stay off the phone with these people is your best bet.

I get calls from this number many times during the week including after 7 PM.

Now they have started call on Sunday night.  I never answer calls of unknown
callers.  They never leave a message.

Can anything be done about this?  I am almost 80 years old.  I fear that I
might fall, and injure mayself and no one would find me for days.

Called my house number very early. Was getting my son off to school, not expecting the phone to ring at that time.
