Same as Liana did, I replied to the missed call and got a prompt to hit 1 to be placed on a do not call list for that number.   Supposedly in 48 hours it will take effect.  I had three calls from them in the past 24 hours, so let's see how the do not call works.

This must be the fifth or sixth call from these people.  I have told them each time to put me on their Do Not Call List.  They now owe me money!

The majority of these calls are computer generated emanating from oversees therefore unaffected by the DNL. The worst thing to do is "press 1" to be removed from their database.  It has the opposite effect where in fact confirms they reached an individual.  

The best option is to use a VOIP like OOMA where you can block these calls.  New callers will get through but you can just block them.  The initial outlay is $130 or so.  From then on you pay only applicable taxes, usually $4.00/month for basic service. If you add enhanced services the cost is approximately $10.  You can cancel any other phone service and your calls will be routed through Ooma.  In most cases you can port your number.

Ignoring the phone calls doesn't discourage them from calling back but what does stop the calls is I called back to see who it was and got a recording to press 1 to be added to the do not call list.  I was reluctant but without another option, I did press 1.  I was glad I did because the multiple calls stopped in a couple of days.

Phone number 914-530-2370 caller IDs as "ELECTRIC COMPANY."  I don't see any actual electricity providers doing that... it would be like Carvel caller IDing "ICE CREAM"  They call frequently, usually in the middle of the day.  Apparently this number is owned by someone in Melville Long Island with a landline presence in Bronxville New York, a company that cannot spell:

If you pick up and say nothing, they don't say anything either.  I'm hoping to cost them money, but I don't think local calls cost very much.

These calls are tame compared to the wannabe BML and debt collector scams I've been getting. I get a few calls a week from "Electric Dept", "Power Center", etc. from various numbers and all of them blocked. Do they get the message and not call back? Nope. It's all an automated machine so stop waiting for the govt to do something about it and give the scammers a collective reason not to call back anymore. Call blockers are not rare and not expensive. Use a cheap chinese solution, a dedicated pc with a modem and your choice of software, get a fancy phone that blocks calls, etc. I have a pc with callclerk that blocks all unknown calls by default and I choose who to whitelist. I also have a separate T-lock call blocker which blocks the more annoying calls and suppresses the first ring. I basically don't hear them anymore.

This number is a scam, probably by the same company that goes door to door in our neighborhood, claiming to be from Consolidated Edison.  They call at all hours of the day and night.  There is no name that appears on Caller ID, no location, nothing, just the number 914-530-2370.  Sometimes there is a recorded message telling you they can help you save money on your electric bill, sometimes they just hang up when they get my answering machine.  If you pick up, they will hang up on you.  I want these people to leave us alone.

This board is simply a sounding board for people to vent and inform others of scam telemarketing calls they receive.  There is no authority associated with the 800notes site to stop these callers.  In order for people to collectively stop these type calls they must act together - and TAKE ACTION!  It doesn?t do any good to complain about a caller on this board unless you then take the next step and do something about it!  The caller ID number is usually a ?Spoof Number? ? A Fake!  Never, never, ever engage the caller or call back the number.  The false robocallers will then capture your number as a ?live one? and use it over and over and sell it to other scammers.  The same goes if it prompts you to ?press a key? to ?opt out?  of their calling lists, or be transferred to someone, as this will only ?log? your number as a working one and make it ripe for future calls and to be sold to other scam companies as well.
The best option is simply to hang up, keep your own list of calling numbers with dates and times and report them to the FCC below.  There is space on their complaint form to list several calling dates and times of a repeat caller.
The DO NOT CALL list is worthless, they do not act on anything, just build a database of numbers.
In order to do something to help stop these type calls, everyone - EVERYONE needs to file an online complaint directly with the FCC.  If they receive enough complaints about a particular number - they will act on it.  Do it today and pass along the info:

calls atleast 2-3 times a day. when i answer no one is there & if it goes to machine, no message. we are on the Do NOT CALL LIST. Annoying

Got the same thing. Called me and hung up.  But it also showed up as my brother s name.  So somehow it was able to get my contact list.   This looks sophisticated

They keep calling and harassing my elderly mother.  Each time I block the call, they call from a similar, but different number.  SO annoying.

Received a call from 914-530-2370 on 4/10/2014 at 5:07pm EDT. Caller ID displayed "Electric Dept". Did not answer and an automated message was left.

Based on the voicemail message it appears that this is another number being used by the various "Electric Service Discount" scams.

I have added this number to my Google Voice block list.

Right on, then block it. No message means its a spammer from the Electric Dept trying to sell their services on the phone. What?

Got a call from this scam artist

Got the same call and said Electric Dept.  No message from them.  No call isn't working on to many of this crank calls.
It needs to change.

Got a call from this # today. Caller ID had Electric Dept. on it. I figure it's some kind of scam since I don't deal with any service provider directly. No message left.

Same here. Asking if I wanted to save money on my electric bill, press  # 5. I did so and was disconnected. I called back the #. A recording asked if I wanted to be removed  from there list to press  #1...and so I did.

Lots of calls from this phone number but never anyone on the other end! No name other than Bronxville...

Called with an auto-message that I could save money on my electric bill, when a person came on the line I asked what company they were calling from and the person hung-up on me. SCAM.
