This dexter brown just called me threatening  to come to my job or home to pick me up for some debt that he says I have that I really don't have.. When I asked to speak to a supervisor he gave some other name and pretended to put someone else on the phone.... He cursed me out said some really harsh things in his Indian accent so I hung up... Looked him up and found myself with this site...

Message from Dexter Brown making  threats about coming to my house and or job.  He says I'm avoiding him when in fact, I don't even know him and have no idea as to what he is referring to.  Some type of debit I'm supposed to be in with them.  I do not know these improper English speaking people.

I received a call today from the same phone number telling me that I had a lawsuit pending and that a payday loan (that I don't have) company was sueing me and that I was going to be picked up by the police for fraud. Told me that they would come to my house an even my work and take me downtown for up to 30 days. I informed him that it doesn't work this way here in the US as we are inoccent until proven guilty. They called me while at work and got me so upset that I couldn't work the rest of the day. He told me that I lived in CA and I told him that I had not lived in CA for over 10 years. He said that is must be an error. I told him that I know where I live and that if you contact me again I will consider this harrassment and I will press charges against them. The man did too have a HEAVY Indian accent. I didn't let him tell me how much money I had to pay as I hung up on him and told him not to call me again.

Just got my call AT WORK from Derek Jackson (mind you, with the super heavy Indian accent as well), and put thru to Dexter Brown when I insisted they put someone that spoke English on the phone. I listened to about 45 seconds of his crap about how I owed money for a payday loan I never had, told hime it was a load of s&^t and hung up on him. The phone rang back immediately, and I told Mr. Jackson i'd be contacting the attorney generals office.

How often can a debt collector call me?

That depends.  Under the FDCPA, a debt collector may not call any person repeatedly or continuously with the intent to annoy, abuse, or harass them.  In practice, though, it can be difficult to determine whether and when a debt collector has crossed this line.  According to the Federal Trade Commission, a debt collector may almost certainly call you more than once, but six calls per day is probably too many.  Between these extremes, it depends on the facts of your particular case.

Know Your Rights!

Debt collectors violate the FDCPA when they make harassing, threatening, or misleading statements in order to trick you into making payments.  Don't be fooled!  Learn to recognize when debt collectors cross the line, and stand up for your rights!
Harassing and/or Abusive Statements violate the FDCPA:

Threatening to have you arrested or jailed
Threatening to take your SSI or other protected income
Threatening to take your household furniture
Threatening to cause physical injury to you or your property
Threatening to send false information about you to the credit reporting agencies
   Using obscene or profane language

False and/or Misleading Statements violate the FDCPA:

Misrepresenting the character, amount, or legal status of the debt
Making empty threats to scare you
Pretending to work for a credit reporting agency
Pretending to work for a government agency
Falsely claiming to be an attorney or to work with attorneys
Sending you fake legal papers to confuse you, or telling you to ignore real legal papers.

Abusive and/or Unfair Practices violate the FDCPA:

Calling you or any other person repeatedly with intent to annoy, harass, or abuse you, or any person at that number
Calling you after you have sent a cease letter.
Calling or contacting you without disclosing that they are debt collectors trying to collect a debt
Collecting interest, fees, collection expenses, or other charges that are not authorized by your original payment agreement
Soliciting postdated checks with the intent to threaten to expose you to criminal charges, or soliciting postdated checks and then threatening to deposit them early.
Contacting you by postcard, or contacting you in any way that would disclose to a third party that they are debt collectors.

Are you experiencing any of the above?  Call the NYC Financial Justice Hotline at 212-925-4929.

I got a call on October 11 from a man that called his self Dexter Brown and another who had a heavy accent who I talk to stating that I had three outstanding pay day loans and he said they were going to sue me and I would be put in the federal prison and my bond was $8000. He also said did I want to settle this out of court. I was so scared because I did not want to go to prison, but not realizing those pay day loans was two years ago. I really did not remember which loans they were the company they said they were financial creditor. How I realize it was a scam was I had another call on the 19th and the 20th of October by a man name Robert Brown who said he works for attorney Dexter Nash and he was calling me about a legal matter and I should call Dexter Nash the number was 916-415-8706. On the 22nd of October Dexter Brown called from 888-888-8888 and asked have I decided to settle out of court which would be $856.36 to settle I asked him what was the name of the pay day loans I had he became angry and said you want to fight this in court so I hung up. And I changed my number got new cards because I don't know what information he might had.

I received a call today about a payday loan that I never had. I am a senior citizen and he really made me nervous, actually I was scared. Both the men I spoke to had very heavy accents too. I was told i would have to go to court and pay over $8000. The loan was a $500 one that they were calling about. As you can imagine I was scared. I know my blood pressure went up and my heart was racing. i hope that is the only call i ever get from them.

This number called and threatened that I would have to appear in court tomorrow with some ridiculous amount of money, like $11,000 if I did not pay a debt today, from some pay day loan from last year.  They were very persistent and told me that I could be put in jail for up to 90 days.  I requested to speak to someone from California because thats where I live and they said they were unable to do that.  A message was left for me by a Nick Anderson and I spoke to a Don Wilson on the phone both had heavy Indian accents. They wanted me to go to a local store and use a money gram to pay them around $400.  I went home and researched it online and found several similar reports, so I am pretty sure its a scam!
