You are being scammed and frightened.I'm not sure why these foreigners(yes foreigners,I'd bet Indian) want to keep doing this except that some people are afraaid and will give them money. They say you took out a  payday loan or any loan and are being sued but if yu call them they'll take a lot less monies.THe best is when they tell you they are from some fraud investigation unit and the police are coming to arrest me the next day..this has been their MO since Jan 2010 when someone hacked into an application I had made online for something personal and not a loan.I have contacted the Atty general, the FBI and the local police and they said they can't catch them because they are spoofing cell phones here but calling from India. But these agencies are onto them and just waiting for them to make a move on someone's acct.

This sounds like yet another fake payday loan collector calling from overseas. Their threats are empty and their rude tactics are illegal under federal law, the FDCPA. Do not argue with them, do not comply with their demands. Show them you know you have rights they are trampling.

Try demanding a mailing address and a full business name. If the caller fudges his answer and you cannot verify it, it's likely a PDL sham. Challenge their horse puckey threats; they often make rude remarks and hang up. As the bullies like to hassle people at workplaces, advise your employers and coworkers these calls are garbage.

The usual response to such a runaway debt collector stateside is to send a cease-comm letter and file suit. If you find a valid US address, please do so. Fierce consumer lawyers will leap at the chance to run such a case on contingency. However, being mostly outside U.S. borders and having no discernable addresses, these particular criminals rarely make it possible for individuals to punish them.

This number 914-908-4255 keeps calling saying it is a legal matter and they will have the police come to our door.  They cussed my husband out when he asked where they were calling from.  He told them he knew it was a scam.
