I have received incomprehensible bills from the hospital that make it impossible for me to tell
  - what I am being charged for
  - Who performed the service
  - When and why it was performed

As I specifically left instructions that I would not pay for consults I did not approve or procedures I did not approve, and because I was told outright that double billing is commonplace, I will not pay these bills without that information. Having written to the hospital numerous times with no response. Why a business would expect me to pay for something without taking the time to explain what it is, ia typical of medicine today. With costs falling on patients, they are in for a major wakeup call.

Note I repeatedly said I would pay of the charges were appropriate, with no response. I will if I need to take this for court, just to get the practice for the future

The hospital can retain who and what they want, but they should also check to see that there are no errors on their part before retaining anyone. Especially if your bill has been paid over two years ago, your company should not be contacting anyone on bogus claims. Then you guys call people with this scare tactic attitude as if some of us give a f*** and lying saying the hospital and your company sent many letters and got no response. If you sent the first bill and it was responded to and paid within a weeks time, why would I not pay the second bill that was "supposedly" sent to the same address. Especially if you are a working citizen who pays all their bills in full every month. When I know that my bill has been paid in full, my employer is a billionaire, but he will not just give his money away. You tell us to call the hospital to verify the bill, give us the account # and date of service, but never give the number to the billing department of the hospital. Therefore I called the billing department as directed and she didn't even recognize the name of the law office, nor the gentlemen that called harassing me. When we call the billing department of the hospital they told me that my bill was paid in full. I then replied to them that I know this because I am holding the receipt in my hand as well as the letter from your insurance. All of a sudden you guys want to change your attitudes over the phone because you thought I threw away my receipt. Therefore, I gave the bill to my employer and I will let his lawyers eat up Mark Nichter's law firm and disbar them forever and then I will personally sue for harassment. Now you can tell your co-workers, colleagues and boss that. B***S*** I didn't pay all that money for an education for no reason. It  seems you are misinformed as a worker of the bogus firm.

Actually, I just received a call from his office on my cell phone. While they left the 877 number for me to call back, the actual number that showed up in my call log was from a doctor's office I visited less than 2 months ago. I received a bill for them for my copayment (only $5) which I paid 2 weeks ago. There is no way a doctor's office will send a $5 bill to collections after less than 2 months anyway. And why the hiding of the number? I called the 877 number and they can find no records for me anyway. That is because they have no record. I owe NOTHING. I think they just heard in my voice I wasn't an idiot, especially after I asked why the doctor's office number showed up. So yes, this appears to not be legitimate.

Actually, the hospital retains his services after a person fails to work out an arrangement with the hospital and after it has gone into collections with no results.

Additionally, all checks are made out to the hospital and are only mailed to the office for processing. The funds are then transferred to the hospital. There are no legal fees / interest / or collections fees attached to it, so you are just paying the principal to the hospital and nothing more.

It seems that you are misinformed. Instead of giving out bad information, maybe you should pay your hospital bill, instead.

This is a true blood sucker. He sees you owe money to a hospital and figures you don't have the brains to work with the hospital on the debt. He also thinks you're so stupid that you would send him a check MADE OUT IN HIS NAME to pay the debt. Best bet is the hospital never gets paid or atleast not what you owe. Never have I seen a legal debt collector tell you to send a check in their name.

Debt Collector
I got a call from Mark Nichter's office about a person who used to have my phone number.  I have gotten these calls from various collection agencies for six years. And I think this is the second time around for Mr. Nichter. Each time I am told they will cross my name and number off their list but six months later, after they have sold the debt to another collection agency, I get another call.  I told them that there is a federal law regarding this and that if I get another call they will be in trouble. They threatened me with reporting me to the credit agencies.  However I have their fax number 914-373-4501. fax them a complaint and tell them if you get a call from another collection agency later down the road they will be in trouble.
