He called saying he was a cousin I haven't seen in years. Stating that they were thinking about my family due to the holidays. He said he was in the area and wanted to stop by to say hello. Should've known he was a fake, my cousin doesn't leave in Juarez anymore! Just didn't think about it till now. He said he will call tomorrow to stop by.

The call came in to my mother's house around 1pm saying that he was a cousin from Mexico going to Las Cruces, NM. A half hour later the same person called to say that he was involved in an accident. He passed the phone to a supposedly federal agent that said that he had checks but he couldn't cash them there and said that my mom needed to help him and passed the phone back to the man. That man asked for 2,500 dollars. My mom said she didn't have that amount of money. They said they would call back and never did.

This is a confirmed scam. The caller states that he is traveling and is stopping by to visit. He will then ask you if you recall which nephew is calling in order to get you to give up a name that he can use. He calls back later to advice you that he's been involved in an accident and needs assistance. He will request a money wire transfer or money order to be sent to a certain address. This people prey on the elderly who have family members in mexico. Spread the word.

AR:
I have received two similar calls but my wife is the one that has always picked up. They mention that they are relatives from MX and they know me by my name. I tried to return the call but got a "Please enter your PIN number" message. I would like to talk to them and give them a piece of my mind. I've heard of people calling and posing as relatives and asking for money.

The person calling is identifying himself as me. He also said that he is coming in to visit us from Mexico and that he knows us from a long time. This, of course is not true.

Received a call from this number he said he was my nephew from Mexico and was on his way to visit.
I called my cousin in Mexico and he was not on his way.
He called again and said he was 6 miles away and had been in an accident and the person that he hit had a small child in the car and the child had medical attention that was approximately $1500 was going to transfer me to the person that he hit so that i could tell him that he was not running away.
I told him he was lying and I was not his aunt and that the real person was in Mexico and not coming.....

They keep calling here at work for our employees and since they mispronounce the names of the individuals they are looking for, I make them repeat it about 10 times and then spell it and then tell them that we don't have anyone by that name.

It appears to be some sort of gateway number that some phone companies route international calls through. I had a legitimate call from a bank in Canada (that I have an account with) that displayed this number.
