They have also called me. They call my house and my cell phone and have left threatening msg's and also told me best of luck something bad was going to happen to me and that i had criminal charges and i was being sued and to retain a lawyer which i did. They also told me to appear in court in california. Didn't hear anything for a couple weeks and have heard from them again with the same thing. Contacted the state police, attorney generals office and all my phone carriers(home and cell) this time around when i told the guy i called the state police and the attorney generals office he told me to f off 3 times and hung up on me. How do i get them to stop without changing my number for these idiots!! I was scared at first that i was going to jail and they also claimed i took out a payday loan!

***Update....."Dan White" (ahem) called back today when I didn't fax all my info yesterday.  Wanted to know why...I told them after I did some investigating, I believe he was a fraud....then he got mad..yelling, interrupting me, hanging up on me....hey, i have unlimited calling, so i kept calling back.  I asked what the name of his "client" was...Cash Advance USA.  He said I got a loan from them in Jan. 2010 (later said it was an approval for a loan...huh?).  When I asked him the date this amount supposedly went into my account, he said he couldn't tell me because his "client" gets 90,000 applications a day and it is very hard to pin down an exact date....my question was, they have all my other info, but can't tell me what date? I told him I had an attorney if he would like to call him.  He said "what kind of attorney? Criminal, trial, banruptcy?"  I said attorney general, as in Tom Corbett, attorney general of Pennsylvania.  He then told me "don't pay a cent if you think it is a fraud and we will see you in court and then in jail".  I really fired him up when I asked him to stop interrupting me...I said we have a courtesy in this country that we let other people finish sentences without interrupting and that I'm not sure that whatever country he is calling from if they have tat same courtesy.  I asked if his "client" was sending me any written documentation confirming all of this info and he said the e-mailed me somethng yesterday.  when I told him they had not e-mailed me anything, he said they will mail me a form.  I also asked him for his address and the address he gave me is for the county courthouse in Salerno, CA...to which he denied it and said was an attorneys office.  When I asked for his attorney credentials, he said he was not an attorney, but an "affidavit processor"..which means he lied to me yesterday when he said he was a lawyer.  He then called me a smart-a** and hung up on me.  I called back and of course no one answered so I left a message asking that "Dan White's" supervisor call me back within the hour or I would assume I was correct in thinking this is a scam.

Debt Collector
Called me today from 916-226-4115. American Legal Services. Dan White.  Heavy accent.  Threatened me with 3 things (1) Federal banking violation (2) Theft by deception (3) Debt something or other.  Said  owed a payday loan , didn't pay it and now I could owe over $8,000 and that I need to retan an attorney.  Said I could settle on the $848.26 by making payments but I had to send an "apology" fax along with my bank info, a phot id, and my authorization to have my bank debited.  Needed to do it today or the sheriff would be notified and my employer also and I would probably be fired.  After researching on line, I called them back and asked for their address...they hung up.  I called back 6-7 times with the same result.  The last time I called, I said I was "Dan White" and I needed their address...they must have caller-id because they knew my real name.  The address they finally gave me was for the county courthouse in Salerno, CA.  I have already filed a complaint with the PA attorney general and when I am done typing this will file a complaint with the secret service and FBI as advised in one of the earlier posts.  They seem legit because they have all of your info.  He even asked for my credit/debit card over the phone....

I too got a message today from Simon Morgan who say he is from an collection agency, and that I had received some money deposited into my bank account last year from a payday company for $385 and that they had been trying to contact me via email (that I never received) and now they have contacted them for collections and it will now cost me over $700 to pay back. Once I seen them the money then they will investigate and if it is true that I never received this deposit then they will refund me my money. There and then I told them if you were going to do an investigation do it NOW and you will see that I never receive such a claim. I don't do payday loans because I make too much money for them. Yes, I must have applied for a credit card last year and this is how I think they obtained my information. The site must not have been secure.

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
By Leslie McFadden ? Bankrate.com
Monday, Aug. 3
Posted 2 p.m.
Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
?    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
?    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
?    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
?    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

I received a call from this number 916-226-4115, I googled it again and it comes back to a wirless phone. I called the number back and told them not to be calling me anymore because I knew they were a SCAM. the guy who had a heavy mid-eastern accent gave me his name as John Davis, but left a message with the name Paul Smith. I told him not to call me anymore and that i reported him to the authorites, and his reply was that I was gouing to be f****d and so were the people who I put down as references. He kept cursing at me saying I was going to be f****d and he would keep calling me over and over!!!! These people need to be stopped..SERIOUSLY!!!!! THEY ARE A NUISANCE!!!!!

OMG.....I'm glad to find out that this is all a bunch of BS. I got a call twice today from these people, but not for me they were looking for a friend and they said my friend was being sued and that because they had used my name & phone number as a refernce, I too was respomsible. I didn't give them any information and said I would pass along the message but he said he would be calling me back tomorrow. Now I know exactly what to tell those stupid SOBs. Ugh! this really angers me!!!! The person who called me also had an accent that made it difficult to understand him and he said his name was Paul Smith, and that he was calling from American Legal Services. I too, like another person on here commented, asked if he was calling on behalf of a collection agency and he said "Oh, no miss, we are lawyers!"   I hope the authorities are able to find these people soon.

Same story as you guys... I keep getting calls from a blocked number. Mike Johnson says to call him back at this number.  What's funny is that the message sounds exactly the same as it did before.  Possible recorded.

What I find interesting is that usually when a collection agency calls they state their company name.  They will also have something or someone who says... "This call is being recorded..."  This doesn't happen in this case.  Very interesting!

I know it's embarrassing, but I have had real collection agencies call me before in my past.

Here is the true check... I looked up my Credit Report and followed the company name that everyone on this site says they give (American Legal Services).  American Legal Services is not listed anywhere on my credit report as to having any of my accounts.

Please don't get scammed!! Check your credit report so that you know.

Show this thread to your employer - These people are CROOKS and they make a point of calling you at work.  There is NOTHING you can do to stop it- but once your employer understands that this is nothing but a scam and crooks stealing  - they cannot hold you responsible for the calls.

It states clearly in all the press releases that these crooks call work - so its important that you give this info ASAP.

I have been hounded by 8 calls just today alone.  They are form 2 different numbers....916-226-4115 and 408-837-0495.  The same message is being left about me immediately calling them back and to have my attorney call them blah, blah, blah.  I called them up on everything and told them they are on the Nigerian scam website and they hung up after calling me a f***ing b**ch that wasn't worht $5.  I decided to call back and harass them for awhile.  I was calling on a land line phone and *67 my number.  (They were leaving messages on my cell phone) When they did answer I F bombed them back and had a little fun and irritated them some.  I checked my voicemails about 10 minutes later and there was a message on there which stated that "this f***ing message is intended for (said my name) and then F bombed about every other word.  I was called a street w***e, a mother F-er, told how big of a coc* he had and about all I can do is go stand on the street corner and remove my panties and get F-ed for $5 on the streets. he also told me to come there and he would treat me good.......and so forth.  While these calls were going on someone else was on the phone with the FBI and when I told them that they hung up on me.  I called back and gave them the phone number to my state's FBI and I would have went on and on but was instructed by the FBI to end the call so I had to.  I received 2 more calls since then from another number.  I plan on calling tomorrow again and having some more fun with them...........I did get a new phone number by the advise of the FBI Agent.  If you get these calls, have some fun and irritate the hell out of them....They will quit calling.

They called me (Mike Johnson is who talked to me) at work said I had 3 counts of fraud against me and told me that $300 was deposited in my account and 6 times a company tried to collect on it.  They had my ss#, bank account number, address, phone numbers, etc.. I kept them on the phone while I checked my bank account and I told them there was no such problem.  They told me to go to my bank and call them back b/c maybe someone was hacking into my bank account and I should call them right back b/c this was going to court and the legal fees would be over $15,000. I am not calling them back, this seems like fraud that they are committing...I am concerned that they have that much personal information though!
