It makes sense that the payday loan companies would have something to do with this. In fact I am pretty sure that selling people's info, is their bread and butter. I tried for a loan online over 7 months ago. ( One of them may have been CashUSA, and Mass Mutual is no better, MONTEL WILLIAMS SHOULD HANG HIMSELF OUT OF SHAME). I ended up getting unsolicited calls for 3 weeks from companies, I didn't apply to. I answered the questions about my bank account, because I was desperate. After getting hung on 2X, after they had my info I got scared and just stop answering my phone.

Last month, the calls started again.  Someone must have sold my info again. These companies were even more persistent. I got up to 21 calls in a day. And, seeing as my phone would go from being silent for hours to 3 calls in less than 3 minutes, it was probably the same company.

The point is this lawyer must be the 3rd tier buyer. He gets the info for cheaper because it's old and he tries to scare the s*** out of people.

Please send a complaint to Bandwidth, using the link 1 of the other people left. The scam artist need to be burned. And companies like bandwidth need to understand that they can't ignore crooks who use there service for crime, without looking like a crook himself. This guy is so bold he has had the same number for a year. Apparently Bandwidth is one of the cheapest companies in the world you can buy them off for less then $100. They don't even state anywhere that they are willing to take down the accounts that are being used for criminal acts. Their site states you need the police if you are going to do more than notify the customer of any issues. If I ever want to commit a scam I know where to go BANDWIDTH.

Called three times today. Spoke with attorney  Philip Lloyd Arthur. Also a John Martin with an accent so strong I could not understand the voicemail at all. Threatened to arrest me in one hour and have me sent to California to face charges of Bank Fraud, Check Fraud and something else. Said I was being sued for $648.22 for a payday loan that I did not pay back. This is not true, but I did put information into a website for payday loans and I am very worried now about my security. They said the parent company of the loan was Cash Advance USA.  They said that my case number was MW33966011.

Hard to understand name, accent got stronger.  He mentioned he was from a law office.  I told him he was not to contact me again and informed him I would be filing a complaint and He said He would fill so sorry for me because I was in trouble.

Caller had a heavy Indian accent. Left a message saying that if he didn't hear from me or my attorney, he wishes me luck. Said to not 'disregard this call." Since he called my cell, I put him on call block.

Called here at work asking for a specific person.  We all took turns answering the phone.  He would say stupid things like "Did you know that (specific person) is a crook?''  He would seem to get frustrated at comments we'd make such as  "Really?  Thanks for sharing."  He would then threaten my co-worker that he would come down with a couple of guys and take him to the courthouse and presumably have him thrown in jail.  Before making these kinds of threats, it might be a good idea to read the Constitution.  At least he was good for a laugh, although he was starting to get annoying towards the end.  The co-worker has been gone now for over a year and this guy called again today wanting to speak to him.  I explained that he no longer works here.  "Are you sure?"  I replied that we only have seven or eight employees and I know everyone who works here.  He asked me to look around.  Did he think we were hiding him?  LOL.  For me, he was an annoyance, but I feel angry when I think about people who might have taken him seriously and caved in to his threats.

I also received this call today while I was in meetings. I ignored the call, but they continued to call. One right after another. Thinking the call was important, I excused myself from the meeting to answer the call. The man asked for a name that is not at this number anymore, and I politely informed him I had just signed up for this phone service, and was new to this number. I asked him to remove my number from the calling list for whomever they were looking for. They called back immediately, asking what I was doing in the meeting, and other questions and kept insisting I was the person they were looking for. I told him I was in debt to nobody, and he was seriously talking to the wrong person to which he laughed and said he knew I was this other individual. I hung up, and they called back another 7 times in a row.

All that shows on the caller ID is the number and Sloughhouse, CA.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

Received three calls from this number today.  Caller asked for Merrin.  I told him he had the wrong number and hung up.  Called right back and said he didn't have wrong number and that he spoke with me last week.  I told him again he had the wrong number and not to contact this number again.  He called back a third time, I informed again that he was not to contact me again.  He said "what are you going to do about it?" (repeated twice).  I asked for his name. Hard to understand name, accent got stronger.  He mentioned he was from a law office.  I told him he was not to contact me again and informed him I would be filing a complaint.
