Received a call from this number, no message left. But can see from above, many others have. This went to my cell phone as well and I'm on the DNC list. Aggravating to say the least.

This is not a scam, collection attempt, or a sales call.  ECMC is a federal guarantor of student loan debt.  If you consult your loan documentation, you will see them listed as your guarantor.  They are calling to help you with options because your lender is reporting your account as past due.  Of course, you could only know this if you read your mail or answer your phone, which in reading all these posts, I see is a struggle for some reason.  If you don?t have a student loan and it?s a wrong number, ANSWER YOUR PHONE AND TELL THEM!

My caller ID just shows "ECMC" for this number.  After reading the other comments, I'm thinking it may be for my son's student loan.

This number calls my cell constantly. I DO have student loans in default, so I thought it may be legit. I called them back, bypassed the "enter your social and birthdate" prompts by pressing random numbers. When a lady answered, I gave her my cell number and a bogus birthdate, and they said they had the wrong Amber and that they will remove my number from the list. Done :)

No I am not expecting them to write off the loans.  In this economy not everyone owns a bank.  Besides I am not a kid and not a silly adult.  I have a job, it just might not pay what I use to get paid.  Maybe you should do a little research on how many people are without jobs....it's called unemployment.  There are a ton of adults out there that can't get a job.  Lucky for me I have one, I just don't get paid a whole ton and have other bills that accumulated.

I just don't like it when they say they want to help you, but when you explain the circumstances, fill out the paperwork, oh sorry....you make too much money for us to help you.  That's not help.

I think you are jumping to conclusions. How do you know that they did not report it to the do not call registry? What was the purpose of you writing this at all?

I had a missed call from this number yesterday at 12:33pm, again at 7:34pm last night, and today at 2:21pm.

I have no student loans or anything like that, I guess I'll try to answer the next time they call and tell them to stop.

If you call the number back then yes a automated phone answer machine will ask you for your SSN, dont do anything just wait and it will ask you again and even a third time then it will actually transfer you to a live person. You just have to wait on the line and dont say or do anything. Tell the person youve been getting calls and your wondering why and they will ask you for your phone number and then come up with a name. In my case they gave me a name of someone who use to live at my house and I told them to take my number off of their system. The person complied and I havent got a call since. Of course that dosent mean anything... they may start calling again. Yes it is the number for ECMC. Read the other posts here or Google it and youll figure out who they are.

They are affiliated with SallieMae. One of my bosses put the work number as a contact number and now salliemae/ecmc keep calling. Don't put work numbers as contact information if you dont want your coworkers to know you cant pay your bills.

This number calls our office regularly,  and shows up as ECMC. For those of you who have educational loans, google ECMC. This is listed under that:

"The Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced on April 16, 2010, that the property and data stolen from ECMC headquarters on March 20-21, 2010, was recovered in Minneapolis. The recovered media contained personally identifiable information for ECMC's 3.3 million federal student loan borrowers. The authorities say that the data does not appear to have been compromised."

I had remembered this from a client who had filed bankruptcy. Although they said the information did not appear to have been compromised, I doubt that since so many people who have loans through them are being hounded now. Our office gets calls because when we file bankruptcy our number often gets put into the contact number for the debtor.

Never give your social security over the phone to someone who initiates the call. You do not know who you are really talking to. If you are asked for personal information, tell them you will call them back with it. Then contact the party directly (not using the call back number you were given) to verify that they are in fact trying to gather information. You should not even verify your social when they call as they may have obtained information on you and are just verifying bits and pieces.

Also, don't fall for the "you will be arrested today by a U.S. Marshall if you do not provide pay information immediately." You do not get warned prior to being arrested! It is a scare tactic! Also, very foolish to provide information for "payday loans" on the internet. I have repeatedly had people who started to apply, input information, changed their minds and the company insisted they got money and become very aggressive to try and collect money.

Received phone calls on my cell from 916-526-8058.  I finally called the number and it's ECMC, formerly Ed Fund.  I recalled seeing paperwork from Ed Fund a few years ago so took a chance and gave Joyce my cell phone number and she said that ECMC is the guarantor on my student loan if more than 70 days late.  I was indeed behind 3 months, but caught up a week ago and she pulled up my student loan account from the loan provider.  Apparently ECMC's records were not updated yet, but she took care of it.  ECMC can offer solutions (quoting Joyce) for delinquent student loans such as forebearance, reduce your loan, etc.  I would contact your student loan provider first if you're falling behind.

Hope this helps anyone who reads this.

Why would they write off your loans that YOU owe. That is the real problem kids growing up to be silly adults who think the world owes them. Unless your disabled, there is no reason you can not  get a job somewhere.

Ok here's the skinny on this number.  They are now the controlling power for people who have existing student loans.  They took over EDfund, an organization that acts as a gopher between ACS (which to my knowledge no longer exists once all unpaid loans are paid) and also through Sallie Mae.  They help get deferments and also help get interest and such knocked off.  They call whatever numbers they have on file, and if the call doesn't go through to a person they don't leave a message normallly because thats their company policy.  Its a means of having someone call back on a phone number that they wish to be contacted at, not one that they in reality cannot be reached at.  If you do call them back, don't freak out over the fact that they ask for your social to be punched in if you don't have your accnt number because if you look at your statements, your social is within your account number.  For obvious reasons I am not going to say where it is or how to see it because those of us with student loans don't need fraud....lol  Hope everyone has a great day!

Maybe this is an edfund number, but my experience points in a diffferent direction. When I answere the call I got a recording telling me I would receive a text message with important information about my student loans. I got a text message, and lo and behold it had absolutely nothing to do with student loans - it was about signing up for just $9.99 for rings tones or some such crap. I deleted the text. I am still receiving calls - but there is no human being on the other end of the phone.

These people call me all the time...

I have asked them to stop calling. Told them I have never had student loans nor am I interested in their loan programs.

I stopped answering then created a "Ignore with Text" on my phone just for them. It is rather inappropriate so I will leave out the details.

Matter of fact...when you get a new cell phone number, you inherit all the dirty deeds of the "deadbeat" who had it before you. Apparently, the one who had mine went to school, didn't pay their bills, had a few "boyfriends" and a couple more pot dealers...LOL...

Gotta love San Diego!
