This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

Just happened to me today.  Scared me for a minute but then I thought----I didn't take a loan out!!!!

I received this call from this guy yesterday May 3rd. He left me a voicemail but I couldn't understand him. Just something about if he don't here back from me that he would press charges against me.  His voice I recognize before from a previous call a few months ago. An when I called the place where I had a payday loan with . They said it wasn't from them an it was a  scam. Glad I looked his number up an found this website.

im glad i found this site so when I called him back i was armed with all this information, i went off oh him and he said he will see me at court and I told him you better hope not.. they way he got the information is due to the online company selling your information to a 3rd party sp always look and reay the fine print

well i just got a call from him and i went off on him saying are u sure this is maxwell and not john williams, he says williams is one of his para legals and I have a warrent for my arrest and askd for my attorneys number and i told him I dont have one, then I said so what now your going to ask me for money he didnt answer just kept saying that there are court cases and he will see me in the court house i lost my cool and told him he better hope he doesnt see me and then hung up, this guy is a scam artist im from california and there are people here from NC and everywhere eles...theres no way in HELL that they same law firm and EVERY STATE has there own Attorney General so yeah, how did any of you deal with this? and has he stopd calling?

I have received phone calls from the number of 916-629-4347. This man is saying that I am to respond to the call or my attorney. If neither myself or my attorney call I will be facing criminal charges. I called and he told me that I have no phone manners. I am archiving these voice mails and will be reporting these calls to the authorities.

I received 18 phone calls from this guy. I made some inquiries about a loan, but never took a loan out so this guy has been calling me all weekend telling me that either me or my attorney  should call him. He even called me at work three times. :(  I wasn't worried because I know I haven't committed a crime, but at least I know what's going on. This is nuts! I tried calling back but the phone rings and then goes dead.

Same as the above messages.  This man also does Greendot cards from walmart.  He now is with Walgreen also.  I think these retailers should stop this fraud.

It's a debt collector.

Received the same message today.  Claiming to be an Attorney representing the Banking company I deal with.  Charging an alledge cash advance.  If I did not pay a police warrant would be issued for my arrest by 6PM this evening.  My banking company knew nothing about this scam.  Just check it out before you reply.

I got the same message as above.  However, he did not ask for money because I was questioning him.  I contacted our state police just to let them know about the number and the scam.  I was told the Attorney General in my state was going to be contacted.

I took out a payday loan online and got a call from this guy saying he was John Wright and to call me back. I called back and the same guy said he was Atty Edward Maxwell. He told me I was charged with 3 crimes. 1 was for violation of the FDA, 2. Was check fraud and 3 was theft by deception. This guy is an idiot if people don't realize they are talking with the same person. He demanded 3,192 dollars by 1:30 today or I would be arrested. I just hung up on him. This guy needs to be caught and put away. Especially if he is scamming people out of money.

Same thing happened to me... Told me I had until noon or they'd be calling my employer and serving me with papers, and arresting me tomorrow... THESE PEOPLE ARE RUTHLESS!

We recieved the same call as all of you too, he was an Indian man claiming to be Atty Edward Maxwell. His phone number was 916-629-4347. He told us he worked for Advance America ( a real loan company) and that we were going to be arrested and end up in court if we did not pay our loan off imediately, problem is we never got a loan with that company. He told us to go to our nearest walgreens and put $498 on a netspend card (advance america does use netspend cards) to avoid court. HAHAHA we didnt fall for that. We did get a loan from cwb though but our payment is not due til next week. I called both companies and was told it was a scam because even if you have a loan and dont pay it, you will never be arrested, no warrant for arrest and no courts would be involved, your name would just go to a collection agency. I've realized that if anyone with a foreign accent calls is almost 100% a scam, i've caught a bunch of them in their own lies already and when i tell them i kno who they are and that its a scam, they either hang up or start cursing me out.

Got a call at my job this guy said his name was John Williams, I asked him to give me his phone #916-629-4347 and the guy that answered said his name was Edward Maxwell and gave me about two hours to come up with $469.00 and send it by Walgreens or I would be prosecuted for three charges, arrested the next day and the attorney's fee's would be for more than $3400.  I've been trying to figure out if this was a scam all day, I'm also in the Health Insurance business.  Don't need  these kind of folks calling my job.

Recived several calls form a indian man claming to be calling from NC state att. general office. Said that I had 2 hours to pay 395.00. He said that I had three criminal charges pending and that I would go to jail on the following day if I didn't got to a walgreens and get what he called a Reloadable pack to pay this debt but he requsted that I stay on the phone so that he could walk me through what tipe of Relaodable pack to get otherwise my money would get lost if I got the wrong Reloadble pack. He said that this was all because I had took a loan out on line. I had took out a loan on line with usfastcash recently. The man on the phone told me that the loan I had took out was against the law of NC. So I called usfastcash and the told me that it was a scam. Also he wanted me to have my laywer to call him regarding this matter. He said his name was Edward Maxwell and he give me his bond number 148549 and he also called the first time telling me that his name was mike forster and give me the phone number 916-629-4643 and when I called this number the same man answered the phone saying he was Edward Maxwell. This man should be proscuted for what he is doing.
