Using Children's Cancer Center for scamming. It will come back on them. Anyone named Murddock in the boiler room? I'm comin' to get you!

They are indeed soliciting for donations for 501(c)3 front. Note the word "front". They're making bank from donations with about three-cents of each dollar going to their shell foundation.
Block them if you have that feature. If you can't block them then REALLY mess with them. Here are a few ways that are fun:
1. When they call, let them rattle off of their script. Then when the ask (which they always do), "Won't you please put a smile on the face of a child with cancer?" respond with, "Certainly if you'll give me your IRS tax number so I can find out the percentage of donations that goes to overhead". I've done this and they immediately hang up.
2. Answer the phone with a feigned accent and use REALLY poor broken English. Just keep rattling on with, "I no understand. Why you call? Who you?".
3. I'm a retired cop and this one is a real killer: Answer with, "California Highway Patrol Valley Division, Sergeant Mulberry. Is this an emergency call?". When they say, "Isn't this XXX-XXXX?" respond with, "No. This is the California Highway Patrol. What's the nature of your call"? If they ask what number they called tell them it's 916-861-1300 and insist to know why they're calling the CHP.
Be creative. Have fun. These scum need a kick in the rear.

After saying "I'm X from Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation", "How are you this evening?", blah, blah, blah she then asked "Won't you help put a smile on the face of a child with cancer?". That's when I knocked her off balance.
I told her I would be glad to make a donation if she gave me their IRS tax number so that I could research how much of each dollar goes to overhead. Silence ensued for some time and she responded, "Thank you for your time". Click. They hate it when you ask them for their IRS tax number because as a 501(c)3 their financials are public. Those financials also clearly show just how much these greedy, scheming low-lifes put in their pockets as overhead.
It's been months since I dropped that bomb and they just called again. Of course I didn't answer but if they call again I'm going to answer, "California Highway Patrol non-emergency communications, Sergeant Martin speaking. What's the nature of your call"? If that doesn't take my number off of their list I'll just block them if they call after that.
Could I block them now? Yes. But I want to mess with them just one more time because they are scum hiding behind kids with cancer which makes them the lowest form.
If you can't block them mess with them and continue to mess with them until they give up. Don't forget to be creative.

Fourth no. I complained about today. I block their no. I did like the one who said put a radio by your ph. and when you get one of these type's of call play them some good music. I also get very tired of these type's of call.
jr 2014-05-03 22:21:28 Unknown
pretty sure its a scam
Death-to-all-telemarketers 2014-04-28 21:15:59 Telemarketer
Thanks for your previous posts... They make me confident when simply blocking the number when the caller does not leave a message...
BTW, the alleged caller Children's Cancer Center (of course, just a telemarketing company* ) would be exempt from the do not call list since they pose as a charity...
* if they send any of the money you were to give them to a children's cancer research/relief efforts, I'd bet the amount is far less than the amount the "operations" department takes in (and of course both being less than "the Management" remit). Thus your money goes to (1) mostly management (fraud perpetrators, really), (2) the "boiler room" operating to annoy folks like you and I everyday, (3) maybe just enough crumbs left over going to the intended cause just to appear legitimate by minimum requirement by law, if there is one...

Another scam riding on the children's cancer name. Sham. Block the number.

This is the latest in a whole string of annoying phone calls I've had today....and it is a Sunday. Don't these people have anything better to do? Aggravating morons.
Dave 2014-03-26 17:46:03 Unknown
This is from The Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation. They do not have a great reputation for monies raised actually going to help cancerous children and in fact less than 1% goes for direct aid with the bulk raised (over 80 %)being paid to the solicitor companies who call and pester people to donate.
Dave 2014-03-26 17:40:05 Unknown
It's not a spoofed number, just called it back and a recording said they are the the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation. That being said, they do not have a great reputation for monies raised actually going to help cancerous children and in fact less than 1% goes for direct aid with the bulk raised being paid to the solicitor companies who call and pester people to donate.

Vanessa Edwards, the caller tonight from "CHILDRENS CANCE" [all Caps on Caller ID] stated when asked that the "kids" get 15% of the sums raised, with 85% going for overhead and sales. Maybe the overhead for AC Services, the professional tele-fundraiser from 6830 Blank Street, Ste 400, Harrisburg, PA 17112, but not for the actual charity. Vanessa had no answer why a company HQ'd in PA would use a 916 Sacramento area code.

I am a cancer survivor and am hurt and dismayed that people are using children to defraud and mislead people. The government needs to act to stop this.

GUE$$ WHO is BACK? Yup....they have been warned, FTC & BBB have been contacted....just a matter of time before their "ACT" is caught by the AGENCIES.....HA!

I was expecting a phone call so didn't notice the number before I answered. The person asked for me by name and when I acknowledged who I was the call was disconnected. Not sure what the point of the call was.
I am on the DNC registry and still get a lot of unwanted calls. Unfortunately, the solution is not always to not answer the phone when you don't recognize the caller id because many of these companies will continue to call your phone everyday until they get in touch with a live person. If this happens, answer and tell them you are on the DNC registry and they will usually hang up the phone immediately.

Called my landline 1/28/14 8:20 p.m. (!) PST. Caller ID read "Children's Cancer". I didn't pick up, and they didn't leave a message. By the looks of previous post, it's a scam. Who the F has sold my phone number to these cretins? There are some clear-skies, smooth-sailing period when I don't get telemarketing calls, and they are ramping up again lately.
Am ticked at folks calling past 8 p.m. People don't call us that late unless someone has died.
Vera 2014-02-05 16:52:12 Telemarketer
Cannot believe they called at 8:30 last night, So Late!! I did not answer and they didn't leave a message. So annoying!

Well, I called this number and I got a female recorded message saying "you have reach the Children's Cancer Foundation etc. so I hung up. If you're a Charter Communications subscriber, there is a call screening feature that you can block. So I did. It's so "easy peasy."
mike 2014-01-31 17:55:25 Telemarketer
Their real number is 800-238-6479. Their telemarketers are Associated Community Services 877-218-8234. They claim to give 15% for the children--meaning 85% they take for themselves. CEO for Children Cancer is Gregg Anderson. How these people sleep at night knowing they are crooks is a mystery. Hope this helps
StopThoseCalls 2014-01-29 13:38:06 Unknown
Professional fundraisers for barely legal "charities" are even lower than telemarketers. According to their financials, less than 1% of the money raised actually goes to kids with cancer.
Scumbags!

Childrens Cancer is caller ID. I just had a 3-minute conversation with a voice-recognition robot. You can tell.. just use keywords while the robot telemarketer is speaking. cut them off... say positives like 'oh good' and the robot girl responds 'great... your donation will really help'. Say 'are you a robot?' and she responds 'do i really sound that bad'?
Tell her 'say yes right now' and she will.... you are not speaking with a live person, it is a computer.
All the scams are automated now, and you should never even speak to phone marketers. seek out reputable companies on your own if you are interested in a product, service or charity
