I added her, got basically the same message, then unfriended her. Here is a link to one (of many, I assume) facebook page attached to that number https://www.facebook.com/ulf.oskar.16

The account that is sending these messages is a fake account set up to send these messages in hopes that you will respond to them via text message. If you do, you will be sent link for Fling, which is basically an adult dating site. More information can be found here:

If you get a message with this number:

1) Unfriend the person sending the message.
2) Report the account to Facebook as either fake, spam, or scam.

In order to protect your information, as there is potential for identity theft as well:

1) Go to your privacy settings at the top of the page in the left hand corner.
2) Hide the following:
Your phone number
Your email address
Your date of birth (you can hide only year if you'd prefer)
3) Hide your friend list.

In the case of phone number, email, and DOB, there is no real reason this needs to be on Facebook. Anybody close enough to call or email you probably already has this information stored in their phone or email contact list. They probably know your birthday as well.

As for your friend list, I believe this is how this number is finding new contacts. Hiding your friends list will prevent the people you know from falling victim.

Same thing as all above except now its jessica schoeber or somthing. Brand new FB account created today with the same number.

Someone's been using my name and attaching it to this number.  UGH!

I received a message from a person on Facebook saying that I'd added him.  Obviously, I didn't.  Same #.  917-242-4193.

Just got the same request and when I accepted she started messaging me right away asked same questions as above and then said she had to go but left this phone number....deleted her right away

Received the same thing on fb. She was friends with a few of mine. Used the name Ashley Moonsommie though and the fb account used the name Benjamin Gottlieb. Same questions as above then gave the number 917-242-4193.

I received a friend request from this person "Jessica Ballam" on FB. She/He showed as a mutual friend with my 15 year old son and 2 of his classmates, so I assumed my son knew her/him. Immediately upon accepting the friend request I got this chat massage from her/him:

I would guess it is a Facebook bot with some kind of phone scam. I would further guess if you call the number, your cellphone bill automatically gets charged a subscription for something stupid at $10 every month after. Whatever it is, I un-friended this "person" and told my son to do the same, and educated him on scams such as these.

Any messages you receive from these 917 numbers are spam and when you respond you could receive a virus. Best to ignore!

No clue, but I got a message from someone I recognize, claiming that this was their phone number. How ever I think she was fibbing because there are no 917 number here in Australia. Here's the message:
