They call at all hours. Some days more than once. Sometimes a woman sometimes a man. They keep asking for my social security number. When I ask them to identify themselves i get "We are unable to give you any information until you verify your social security number." I told them "Until you tell me who you are and why you are calling you will get no info from me. By the way this sounds like attempted identity theft." One man replied that I should be more worried with how he got my social to begin with. It just doesn't seem right.

Not sure who this is, but they call me early in the morning...and because my voicemail does not have any information (including my name), they don't leave any information pertaining to who they are. That's fine by me though because I screen my calls and will never pick up when they call & do not identify themselves/him/herself. They're just wasting their own time...

I would guess that it is a collection agency...

In response to Mr./Ms. "No way" ...It seems funny that a collection agency would ask for your social security number. This only makes me even more leery of answering a call from them. I know the call is from New York city...according to my web lookup. Good luck everyone...

Yeah, I received a call this morning. I did not answer. If they call back, I will answer & make up a social security number just to see what they have to say.

These people called my parents looking for me- I haven't lived with them in over 10 years!!!!  They told my mom I had applied for credit and "they couldn't continue to process the application because they needed more information". I called the number back and they wouldn't tell me who they were.  They must have had my phone number on their limited caller ID because they asked me "Is this Jessica so-and-so?"(which is NOT me!). I just said yes to figure out who the heck these people are! Then they said "Is the last four digits of your social security number XXXX?" (so now I have this Jessica's name and last four digits of her SS #!) I just said yes once again.  Well then they proceeded to tell me they were collecting a debt for Great Lakes Higher education student loans.  Anyways, I'm pretty sure in Minnesota these people are supposed to identify themselves when asked.  I filled out a complaint form with the Minnesota Attorney Gen. office.

this caller needs to be reported - too persistent. No collection agency will call to ask SS# this is attempt of identity teft. They must introduce themselves before asking for any private info. Otherwise, even if its collection - they are acting illegally by asking private info without self identification.

They called an old friend wanting 2 phone numbers for me.  Led my friend to believe they were checking references for a job application.  I don't have a clue how they got her name or number.

Went through everyone with my last name, and started calling. I have spoken with them, and issue is resolved, but they still call and don't say anything...hang up when I say hello (although I can hear them in the background).

Every since I got my cell phone, I have been receiving calls for someone named Alu Ahluwal...(not sure how it's spelled).  Apparently my cell phone company recycled Alu's number and my minutes are being used up by daily calls.  The messages claim they're from New York State Education so I'm guessing Alu skipped on their student loan.   I created a message on my voice mail instructing anyone looking for Alu to stop calling because they had the wrong number.  But they ignored that.  So now I enter any phone # looking for Alu into my blocked calls list so I know not to answer.  This number 917-423-3097 is the latest incarnation of Alu seekers.

Pioneer is a company that buys student loans. They called my father to get ahold of me and told him also that I had applied for credit.....which I guess in essence I had years ago when I started my student loan. I will say that even though they are attempting to collect on the account they have been extremely helpful. They are trying to get my loan out of default so I can lower my interest rate and take care of the loan! I have been grateful they called me.

just got a call from them, asking for someone with an odd first name and my surname.  i'm guessing they were hoping i said "well, my last name is x, but there's no one with that first name" so the door would be open for them to phish... instead i just said, "sorry there's no one here by that name."

Got a call at my home from this number stating that a member of my family applied for credit.  No one had applied for credit. The caller was attempting to get me to give her information on that family member as to addresses and current phone numbers.  The call was at 8:45 am.  She called back 5 minutes later after I did not give her the information that she wanted, "phishing" for more info.
