I have contacted the FTC and my credit bureaus. I apprecited that. I too was once fell victimized by a fake payday loan and as of now when I get these calls I just play along with them like I cant get a Grren Dot card because the stores have compensated them due to several fraudelnet activities or the closet store near me is about 25 miles or (my personal favorite if I get those police coming to my home) I am at a doughnut shop sitting next to a few police officers drinking coffee and they're investigaing that voicemail Ive received. So now, Im being more aware of these people and becoming more like Im playing along with them until the games are over.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

I got this call yesterday with the same threat as everyone else. The caller Raymond Hoffman (with that Indian accent) made a comment that I had a legal case going on and I will be arrested at my job and at home. He did stated that the sheriff depatment was going to arrest me "in front of the employees" ( that is so weird in my situation in which it is extremly hard to find me unless some page me on my phone). So after his jiberish crap I asked him this question...."How are they going to arrest me at home and at my employer AT THE SAME TIME??? Also I was at neither on the locations anyway!" Also I stated that I was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction a few days ago and the officer didnt say anything about a warrant. So he hung up and I started calling him back harrasing me until he told me "Not to call him again!" And Im going to harrass him even more.

I was very rude to him and told him not to call my house again. After i told him he was a scam he started saying oh my God! Oh my God Kimberly this is for real! Could anyone tell me what we can do to stop this?

just got a call from 9175253474.  they said they were from a law office and wanted and wanted my attorneys information.  When i asked him what it was about he said some kind of criminal investigation.  When i asked to speak with the attorney in charge he put me on hold and then came back on and said he was to busy to speak about this matter.  I told him i new that it was a scam and he said how could it be a scam because he hadnt asked me for any money.  I said ok what can i do to take care of this matter.  At that point he asked for 3000.00 to settle this matter out of court.  I then told him that this is a scam be3cause you just asked me for money.  No legit attorney would ever ask someone for a settlement over the phone.

No, you don't owe money and you will NOT be arrested - it's a scare tactic scammers use to get people to send them money for non-existent, paid off or outwith statute of limitation debts.  Report them to the FTC, the FBI and also your state's Attorney General.

They'll still call, but now you know they're nothing more than a bunch of scammers.  Oh, and if you DO owe anyone money, they would be mandated by law to send you a debt validation letter proving that you do owe them.  Debt is a civil matter - you can't be arrested for defaulting on a loan!  Read up on the FDCPA - Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - and learn about your rights.

Received several calls from (917)525-9437 after I hung up on the guy claiming to be from fast cash advance. I wanted to see how much I was approved for and he said I could borrow any amount, from $1000 to 5,000 yeah right. He said all I would have to do is prove financial statbility and pay $200 and upload it onto some Vanilla Network and I fired back with why should I have to pay you $200 for a loan when you are not a bank, he said it was so they know that I would pay back the loan. When he started to ask for my ssn I told him I could not give that information out and I hung up the phone. He called back several times and I did not answer the phone. The day after on Friday I received a call from the number above claiming that my SSN was being investigated and that legal action was being placed against me. The so called manager with an english accent told me that a warrant for my arrest was being issued and a marshall would be sent to my house within a few hours. I immediatly went off on the guy telling him that they are a bunch of scammers and I know they were calling from NY, NY and it was illegal to threaten anyone. He was pissed because I was not falling for their little scheme and I did not give them any $. He hung up the phone on me and after that I placed a phone call to the State Police. Now I keep getting the same calls 2 a day leaving the same message on my voicemail. I found out that it is a cell phone.

Good for your Tammy.   I'd like to see how they get past the statute of limitations on these made up bills.
I never cease to be amazed at how these thieves call and expect people to just pay a total stranger,  without any acceptable id or validation of the debt,  to  blindly pay them over the phone.

Received several calls from this #... I finally decided to answer it and the caller said that is was a legal matter that he needed to discuss with me.. I went to grill him on what kind of legal matter and what kind of case... He said that If I wanted to know more that I would have to agree to speak to a supervisor. So I said transfer me then cause u obviously can't answer my questions... When the "supervisor" got on the line he told me that I received a payday advance that I didn't repay and that within the next hour and half (@8:30am) a Sarasota county sherrif will be at my house and place of employment with a warrant for my arrest. I what for I know you can't have me arrested without prior notices of an attemp to collect a debt. I got hung up on.. I called back and asked to speak with who ever was in charge.. The guy on the phone said he was the manager of the law firm and I asked what lawfirm he said this one. I then asked him what company did I receive a loan from and he said his lawfirm represents all the online payday loans in America.. I then told him its been 10yrs since I received one..(from which he couldn't tell me where) and then he said well our company goes back 20yrs... I was like well u go ahead and send the ppl with the warrant as u sound just like the guy who hung up on me minute ago cause I was askin too many questions..

Hi woody and Lisa,
I had the same #thing happen to me. They had called yesterday and the guys name was James supposedly.  I think his name was more like habeeb or something. He had a middle eastern accent and said it was from Usa Cash Advance. I was grilling the daylights out of him and he wanted me to prove financial status by giving him $200.00 and it would be loaded onto a prepaid gift card. I wanted to borrow $1000.00 abd he said first you must get $200.00. I said it was a scam. He assured me it was not and the more I went on with it he was asking what my ssn was and I told him I cannot give that information out and hung up on him. Ge tried calling back several times but neither my husband or I picked up the ohone. Now today I get a message on our voice mail stating that it was Daniel somebody from legal service dept and my ssn was being investigated.  Yeah right, I am not calling back instead I am gking to call my resident state trooper and report them. They screwed with the person!!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This can't be a true  business. I call and spoke to someone and he said he was a manager. He told me that in 2 hours to pay back a loan that I took out or a police would be at my house to arrest me and I told him to send them because I didn't owe anyone money. When I said that he hung up on me I tried calling back and I couldn't get throughas if they blocked my number. I tried 3 times and still couldn't get through. I called from my sons phone and was able to get through. I explained to the guy what had just happened and the guy hung up on me and when I tried to call back from my sons phone they had blocked his number. I can't imagine a ligitmate business blocking your number if they truly think you owe them money, I am going to try to do my own background check on this company who is calling and harrassing people and see what I can find out. I pay my bills and I don't appreciate someone calling me and telling me the police is going to come and arrest me in 2 hours I honestly think they are trying to scare people into giving thien a credit card and trying to rip people off. if I find out who thiese people are I will see them all the way to jail or prison, Sio if you get a call from this number (917) 525-3474 try to get as much information from them while you have them on the phone and then contact someone for legal advice becasue I am.
