My husband was duped into giving them our information when they called our home.  The following week, we received a donation form requesting $35.00.  I went on line to investigate this group and found that this group is run by James T Reynolds II.  "Most of his experience has been limited largely to his work with the Cancer Fund of America, a controversial group founded by his father, which has been blasted by both the Better Business Bureau and the nonprofit rating agency Charity Navigator for giving less than a penny of every dollar raised to cancer patients" from a Marie Claire article dated September 14, 2011.  Also from the same article "In 2007, the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs accused that group of making false and misleading claims in its mail solicitations, allegations that the Cancer Fund of America ultimately settled for $50,000".  I asked them to stop calling but they continue.

Business Bureau (BBB) is warning donors to be wary of making contributions to The Breast Cancer Society, a charity that uses most of its cash to pay professional fundraisers? fees, employee salaries and other administrative costs.

More than 85 cents of every dollar in donated cash went to pay the charity?s fundraising costs in 2010, with less than a nickel going directly to benefit cancer patients and their families.

Since its creation four years ago, the Arizona-based charity has grown into one of the largest breast cancer charities in the nation. It received more than $48 million in cash and product donations in 2010. The charity solicits money from donors across the country, including those in Missouri and Illinois.

October has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the focus of numerous special events and other efforts designed to draw attention to the disease.

?Many of us feel a need to give to this very important cause, especially this month? said Michelle L. Corey, BBB president and CEO. ?Donors need to understand that all charities are not the same.  We need to give with our hearts, but also with our heads.?

High fundraising costs can be a warning sign that a charity may not be effective in providing direct help to its constituents, said Jim Judge, BBB Charity Review Director.

?Most donors want to see their money used to help people, rather than disappear into the coffers of for-profit fundraising companies,? he said. The BBB?s national Wise Giving Alliance was unable to determine whether the charity meets the BBB?s Standards of Accountability because it has not responded to requests for information.

The charity is based in Mesa, Ariz., and solicits donations through telemarketers and direct mail companies. The telemarketer that gets most of its business, Michigan-based Associated Community Services, has been targeted by several attorneys general in recent years, usually due to concerns about misleading fundraising.

The Breast Cancer Society?s president is James Reynolds II, former vice president of the Cancer Fund of America charity of Knoxville, Tenn., which was founded by his father.  The BBB issued a warning about Cancer Fund of America two years ago because of the small percentage of that charity?s cash donations used for charitable work.

Have received two calls in the past month from this number 919-249-5460 both from an "Amanda" from "AC Fundraising" on behalf of the Breast Cancer Society. Very rude, talked over me telling her not to call again and take me off the phone.  Talked as if she did not hear me but stopped when I told her I would report her and then started again. told them to take me off the list.  Very pushy, very rude and it feels like a scam.

Please take the time to use the online form for filing a complaint with the NC State Attorney General. BCRF will continue to call unless we take action to stop their intrusive calls.

If you are concerned about how the money raised is spent, ask the caller to send you a statement of how the money is spent. Every organization has this information available. These calls are made by a paid fundraiser so yes they get paid to make calls.

Requests to be removed from their list are not honored. Please file a complaint if you want calls to stop.

This number called me and asked for me by name.  She stated she was with the Breast Cancer Society, and could she send me a $20. pledge card.  I asked her if this money is to support the household of cancer patients while they are sick, or is this money being asked to receive for their medical expense.  The caller would not comment.  She was not pushy either.  She said, "well okay", I see you cannot give at this time.  Having a very tight household budget myself, and with my own medical expenses, I did want to know more of what the money was being applied to for cancer patients.  My home receives calls from this society several times a month.  Do they earn income for making donation calls?  My prayers are with all cancer patients.  I  would appreciate a limit from this society on calling the same phone number.  Once a year should be enough.

Just got a call from the bi***, she left a message to the tune of "Is Edith there" real hateful like she was mad because she didn't get me. It's a scam. Beware. Don't answer just let them ramble they will get frustrated after awhile when they see they won't get any money. But cannot believe I got call block from my telephone company plus on the Do Not Call Registry, lots of good that does but I will be contacting the Attorney General why I don't know, they don't seem to concerned either, its like they have rights these callers do and they can harrass you anytime of day.

Looks like they're running through the Pittsboro, NC phone exchange numbers, mine being a 919.542.xxxx.  I answered FINALLY, as I've seen several caller id missed calls for it!!  Said hello, hello...  hello?  hello?  I heard her say my name, then that was it, she hung up, I guess because I didn't acknowledge her quickly enough.  Looked # up here and seems like I have all the info I need.  Now on to donotcall.gov to log it.

Breast cancer solicitation. The caller would not stop talking as I tried to interject my request to have our number removed and for them not to call back. The person was still talking without pause when I hung up. Have marked the number not to be answered in the future.

Well, they called here and she started to harass my husband that he should be more compassionate about all of these single, homeless mothers who have breast cancer! There's a new twist on it. She repeated it to him 3 times . Didn't know this was such a problem with single homeless mothers. <sarcasm>
Next time we will just hang up as it is obviously fraud. The caller ID just said N Carolina call

Just had biopsy on Monday, get this call today, Friday. Compelled because what I have gone through over the past week. If you are going to send me a pledge card, fine send it, but do not tell me you are transferring me to verification and verification tries to get funds over phone with debit or credit card. I may have been born in the morning, but not this morning.

If I heard, "You are a sweetheart" one more time on that phone, I would have screamed. They had my name, address and of course phone number.  They will not get that pledge card back from me.

Amanda is the person who also called me from this number.  When I tried to tell her that I gave to the American Cancer Society and that I would rather give to the American Cancer Society instead of some organization that I knew nothing about, she hung up on me.  This is not the first call I have gotten from this number and I am tired of them calling.  They just keep talking over you when you try to say something.  Wants you to send a breast cancer survivor money if they mail you the info.  Fat chance Amanda!!  Anyone from this telemarketing scam should be fired.  What good does it do to be on a "Do not call" list"????  And how in the world do they know you by name????  Stop calling!!!!

Received a call from this organization from a very pushy woman who asked first for my husband, then said,"Oh that's okay! We were calling for either of you." When I told her we were on the Do Not Call Registry and asked how she received our number, she gave me a complete b__ s__ answer. I told her I had received calls from their organization in the past and, if she called back, I would report them to the Attorney General's office.

Reading about this outfit, they don't appear to be on the up and up. Plus their telemarketers are rude.

Woman called asking if she could send me info so i could give a "little something" to help women going through breast cancer that need help while they fight for their lives.  I told her I was in the same boat, she sarcastically told me to have a nice day. I felt bad as I know first hand how tough it is, glad I googled the number to find out it's a scam. Women do need help so if you want to help please go through a local, reputable organization!!!
