Scam, scam scam, scam, scam.  :-)

Good for you!  This is most certainly a scam.  I just had the same call from someone who sounded like a Pakistani.

There is a real need, though.  Do your own research with the relevant Google terms and I believe you'll come across some legitimate websites (that also warn of such scams).

For weeks I've been getting calls that hang up when answered. Emily was suggesting $100, then $50, then, $25, then $10 for the starving elders and children of the Pine Ridge Reservation. She persisted for their budgeting each time I said I'd decide later how much. Her accent seemed like she was from Philipines or India.  She mentioned the mailing would have peace pipes and a purple circle for authenticity
Hard to tell if it's a legit call or if I'm one of the suspicious of scammers using a legit situation , but I'll google the address when the donation envelope arrives

well.. they called this morning and I never look numbers up on the net but I did for this one... same thing... southeast call and I live in nc. When i tried to return the call it doesn't even ring.. and I tried calling for the house and cell phone. what the heck?

same thing here this a.m. twice already and they call every day!  wish i could figure out how to get rid of these calls!!!

I continue to recieve calls from  "southeast call" 919-576-2540. they never say anything or leave a message. calling from early morning till late at night...  always busy when you try to call back... I would LOVE to be able to speak with them.. I dont think They would want to call back~! cowards, get a real job!

O.k. about 2 years I was having some money problems and had taken out a few payday loans. Not too long after that I lost my job and to this day I am still unemployed. My father received a call from a "southeast call" with the number 919-576-2540 and he took a message for me and said this guy wanted to serve me with a summons. This guy left a number for me to call which was 1-877-465-8898 and a case #. I called him and left a message and he has yet to call me back. Now when I call all I get is a busy signal. So I decided to call the 1-877 # they said I took out a loan for $350 and now I owe $880 and they are trying to serve me with a summons to go to court and this is a criminal matter. Of course that scared me because I am unemployed with two kids and I do not have the money to pay off this debt right now. So I called the local Sheriffs Dept. in my area and she looked up my name and didn't find anything. She suggested I call the local Clerk of Courts office to see if there is a civil case against me...so I did. I called and there are no court cases for me civil OR criminal under my name??? How can you serve a summons without a court case? I admit I owe them money but are they just trying to scare me into paying it??? This is crazy!!!

Just rang once.  Strange, but I do have student loans, so I agree with "Hugh".

I have been getting two of these calls a day for a few weeks and not answering. Tonight I answered and he asked for me by name, as in "Jane Doe Please" I said who's calling, and he belligerently said my name is Jonathan, now may I speak to Jane Doe? I silently said no and hung up. All I find on REverse lookup is that it is an unlisted landline in Durham NC.

This "Southeast number" called and woke me up at 4:30 in the morning. I answered half awake and said hello but it was a guy in a different language, maybe Spanish. Even though I do not know Spanish, it did not seem like a professional call with any objective nor that this person knew who I was at all.  I was only half awake but I think the call ended when we obviously could not communicate. I searched for the number online, and it says different things online, sometimes that it's a Raleigh cell phone, and then sometimes either a Durham or Raleigh landline, and I live in Raleigh. I just tried calling the number, and it gave me a busy signal.

I've read the other posts, and I too have federal student loans, but I see no purpose behind calling me if the caller can't speak the same language - and at 4:30am, especially if they are in the same time zone!!

said they were calling about my publishers clearing house account that was 200.00 past due.  I don't and have and never have had one of these accounts!  When I said I don't have an account with them.  She said well I don't understand why they keep billing you.  To which I said I think you have the wrong number and hung up.

Got a call asking for me....when I answered and said this is she....I was hung up on and can not call the number back

call this am 845 am.  southeast shows up on caller id.  no messge

Dan West called me looking for some one i didn't know and hung up the phone. He was rude and advised me this call was being recorded. He also mentioned he was trying to serve a sapena

They JUST called my house and it's 11:49 PM!!!!!!!!!! Of course there was no one there when I answered snd when I tried to call it back it was a fast busy signal

This is a scam.  They called me and told me I had a balance for an ad.  When I got mad and asked for their boss they hung up!

I just got a call from this number, let it roll to voice mail, and when I listened it was someone calling from my home office. (I telecommute.) Very strange since the actual office number usually shows up.

IF YOUR JOB IS COLLECTING MONEY, THE WAY YOU ARE DOING IT, IT IS THE MOST UNSUSCEFULL WAY TO DO IT, TRY ANOTHER ONE...MOTHER F***ER...

Don't put up with their crap.

I demanded they send proof I actually owed the debt. First they said they do not send verifications by regular mail as they are a "paperless office" - yeah, right. They emailed me no contract, nothing showing I owed anything, just a very short letter claiming I owed the debt which had ACS Group LLC in it's letterhead but NO return physical address and NO email address.

The next time they called I ripped them to shreds over it. I told them until they can show me a contract with my name on it and proof I actually owe anything that as far as I am concerned they are nothing more than a bunch of scammers and ripoff artists. I also reported them to my state AGO.

I am FED UP with these darn scammers. Get an honest job, you losers! I hope you all go to jail.

Called me twice today, no message and when I do answer, there is no one there. I called back and a recording answered saying that the number is not in service. WTF?

I spoke to them today. It's quite possible that this company just sells their number to collectors and the like. My call was from AES (student loan servicer). They're the most antagonistic company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Don't get private student loans--if you don't qualify for federal loans and can't get scholarships etc, save to go to school. Don't let these vampires sell you a dream of improving your future by going to school, only to try and get blood from rocks when you graduate and can't find work.

If I could, I'd tell them to shove it and only pay for my federal loans. The federal servicers are all a lot nicer and more helpful. AES tried to argue with me when I was out of work and couldn't pay as much.

My boyfriend calls me from his Skype phone at home and this number comes up instead of his actual phone number, so it's not always a bill collector or sales call.  It may just be someone calling using a phone service other than a standard phone company.  It's not a dedicated phone number.

Yeah, this is odd to read all these comments.  I got a call from this number and I let it go to voice mail.  Looked it up on here as it was ringing and found this page.  Turns out it was my allergy doctor (robot voice) calling to confirm my Thursday appointment.  That's so wild that it turns out to also be a dummy number for other businesses!

this number is also assocaited with 646-753-7340. He is very rude & has no manners what so ever. Now when I don't answer the phone at my job because I see this 919-576-2540 on my caller id, he calls from 646-753-7340. Effing Jerk!!!!!!
