Any # from a NC state agency will have the prefix 754. I am a state worker who makes out going calls and I would not always want the person to call back directly to me if I do want them to contact me directly I leave my contact #.

    The message left on my telephone answering machine sounded legit, will discover if this is true on calling them back.

Lady left her name and the #888 number for the NCESC stating there was an issue with my claim.  Her direct line that showed on my called ID at 7:30 am was not accessible; automated message indicates the office opens at 8 am.  Plan to call since I was recently laid off and filed a claim on-line.

weird is right I just got a few calls from this number..tried to call it back and got the same message that its a non working number

if that is the case...I would say not to trust anyone from that number! Its got to be a fraud

got a call from this number, and I was on the other line and didn't look at the number until I got off the phone. Tried to call it back and it says the number is not a working number. I thought this was strange. It seems I'm not the only one to get a call from this number.

got a call from this # requesting prior year tax returns, stating my co was due a $500 refund...thought is was suspicious and tried to call back...but found out it was "not a working #"
My accountant had never heard of the form the lady referred to.
The person asked me to mail info to PO Box 871, Raleigh, NC 27602.
Glad I didn't...any way to see who this PO Box is registered to?

got a call from 919-754-2999. He said he was from Internal Revenue Services and said a letter was returned and he stated my previous address and asked if I moved. Then asked for my new address.  I tried calling number back but it said it was discounted. weird.

This seems to be the number that shows for outbound calls from the NC Dept of Revenue.  We were dealing with a lady there and called her direct extension and when she returned our call it came from this number, which like many have reported, is not a working number for inbound calls.  Apparently this can be an call from any various NC State Revenue department out of Raleigh, from taxes to unemployment.

It's not a fraud call.

I received a call from this number, and a guy left a message.  It is the NC Department of Revenue.  It is not fraud, as the information he left on the voicemail is correct.  I had made payments for prior years returns and the agreement I was paying was finished.  He called to let me know there is still another year that I owed on, as the agreement I was paying was for different years.  I know this is true because I have already called the NCDOR and found out myself before he ever called.  I guess I was just hoping that no one would catch that I still owed money!  He left a different number to call back, toll free 877-919-1819 and an extension.

I got a call with the same caller ID.  A woman left a message with a different callback number and she indeed was from NC employment Security Commision with a legitimate call.  This is not a fraud of any kind.  They simply use the fake caller ID for some reason.

I live in Orlando and have never filed for unemployment.  I got a message at 7:22pm EST on Memorial Day on my voicemail saying more info was needed to process my claim?  WTF?  I work full time in Orlando only have a NC Magic Jack number so my family can call me for free.  It's a scam and to the posters above....saying it's legit, yeah right good luck with that...

A guy from this number caled me this morning twice and lft a message the first time. He said he was from te NC employment Security commission and that my hearing had been delayed and I would be contatced within a week of the new date. He had my phone number and my address. Today is memorial Day and no government office is open today. What the hell. When I called back, of course the number was disconnected.

Not fraud.  NC Dept of Unemployment if you filed a claim, they call you about your benefits.  Best to answer if you are waiting for your unemployment as the callback number is close to impossible to get through to.

It is the UN Unemployment Office. I emailed them with a question about state and federal taxes and this was the number the woman called back with.

This is the unemployment office. They should not call you unless you've filled for unemployment. I filled for unemployment on Nov.1 2008, I hadn't heard a thing back from them at all. I sent them an email on Dec. 6 2008, then on Dec. 10 2008 I get a call from this number, asking me to call 888.737.0259 dial an agent number. This is a legit number on the Unemployment website. Problem is, it keeps saying all circuits are busy every time I call. This is not a fraud or a scam. If you want your unemployment checks, I suggest you don't overlook this call.

This number 919-754-2999 was on my missed call directory when I got back from lunch and I tried to call the number and it was a disconnected number.I tried looked online to find out if it was from a client and got this info. Thanks for posting.

Just received a call wanting to verify my company name and immediately hung up.  When I tried to call the number back the number was disconnected or no a working number.

Got a call from 919 754-2999 wanting me to fax someone named Viola tax information on my company (wage and withholding info)  I tried to call her back on the number she had called me from (the number above) and was told it is not a working number.  I became suspicious, Googled the number and that's how I wound up here.  I now think it's probably a scam.

got a call from this #...Said she was NCDOR and I was due a refund of 500+ and I needed to send her prior year NC3 and W2 to process refund...gave me a deadline and address to send it to.
I ask my accountant, she said didn't sound right, I tried to call back the #, but found it was not working #.  FRAUD --- I'd say.
