Called about 8:30 am on Saturday waking me up.  I answered and heard music along with the message that it won't be much longer and that they understand my time valuable.  I called the number that came up on Caller ID and it went to a company named Advanta.

Agreed! SLIME! They are disreputable at best. I called and worked out a plan with their rep on the day a payment was due. A week or so later I started getting calls (several a day) from a collections department and they (several of them) told me I had NO agreement and was overdue. Then they would cut off what I was trying to say, act as if I were lying to them, give me s**t as if I was not willing to pay (which I originally had been) and more or less talk in denigrating and abusive tones.

Once, a rep called and finally agreed to make the same arrangements that the first one did and was ready to do this until I refused to give him banking information as he wanted to set up some sort of automatic payment. I refused and he got nasty and suddenly reverted to the "no agreement" idea and was antagonistic as if I had not been willing to pay. I pointed out that I did not want to set up an automatic payment as I did not know if I would have funds in that account and might use an alternative method as payment but he was unwilling to hear that and remained very abusive.

DO NOT TALK WITH THESE GUYS! DO NOT EVEN ADMIT YOU OWE ANYTHING! DON'T GIBVE THEM ANY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL INFORMATION AT ALL. THEY WILL JUST USE IT AGAINST YOU AND YOU ARE NOT LEGALLY REQUIRED TO TELL THEM ANYTHING. JUST HANG UP OR DO NOT ANSWER! LOOK UP YOUR RIGHTS AS A PERSON WHO OWES AND FOLLOW THAT! There are lists of your rights online.

You do not know anything.

In my situation I lost my business and had gotten a job but lost that too.  The economy is at its worst.
Finding a job is very hard.  And besides the credit card in question had been charging me 32% for the last six years for no reason other than I was paying on time.  But after calculating all payments and since I did not use the card after rate hike. I actually ended paying the debt twice.  NOW THE SCUMS STILL WANT MORE MONEY WHEN I DON'T HAVE IT, WELL SORRY. I never ever intended to ruin my credit by stopping to pay these cards.  This situation is happening to millions accross the country these days.  And when it comes to buying food or paying these scammers, food takes presedence.

Even if you send them $20 a month they are not happy, they will continue to call and call.  Never leave messages.  Even if you do answer your basically on hold till the robotic dialer lets them know you actually answered.  The other day one called from their 800 number and that one left a recorded message, just telling me the different ways you can make payment.  I don't answer them, don't want to argue with them.  They get pushy.

I'm sure if it were that simple he would.  Many people in this country are going through this and sending companies what they can, myself included. These banks are not willing to work with you. I've already set up payment arrangements with a bank, after calling THEM about 10 times, and they still call.  So get off your high horse.

What Wayne said, except I am not 60.  The stupid puppette on the phone actually said something like "You don't have to go bankrupt, we can work out a payment plan."  Like I care about the $4K on my Adcrappa card.  I tell them to call my lawyer and they given me the "We don't derrrrr, do that."  Well a-holes, keep wasting your time calling cuz my phone is on silent!

Freaking advanta bank! I'm going bankrupt and they keep calling and calling. They just don't understand what's going on in this country, or should I say they don't care. I'm 60 and this is the worst time of my life, divorce, bankruptcy, out of business and I really don't need this crap!!!!!

Repeat calls at all hours of day and evening.  No voicemail left; no identification as to from whom the calls originate.
Calls usually come in pairs.  One call; a pause of two minutes, then the second call.
No purpose known yet.
