I used to work for CPYC in Riverside, CA. That's in Southern California. I was suspended for not meeting my $215 a night quota working part time. I never went back. Worked a total of 4 weeks. I saw many people come and go within that time.
I thought they were a legitimate charity. Only 15% of the total donations goes toward the 'cause'. I'm not a felon, but there was quite a few who worked there.
I read from a script. The least amount we would accept was $15. I was never rude or 'pushy' with potential donors. I was always respectful and professional.
When someone told me to put them on the 'do not call' list, I would, by clicking the tab on the computer. It was supposed to remove them from the database.
That place was a joke. I've told others to stay away. I'm ashamed I worked for thieves.

The article about Jerry Brown investigating these fraudulent agencies helped me understand who called me. All my caller ID said was CPYC. Now I know it's allegedly "Calif. Police and Youth Charities". I now recall that I have answered their calls in the past(not looking at the caller ID) and they sounded "legitimate"-police helping youth.
Luckily I am broke and can't contribute to any org. but I think I have donated in the past to such an org. The article explains they are committing fraud as the money doesn't go to help youth.
Calling themselves a "police" charity must be a way for them to get around the no-telemarketing call policy. Looks like they don't care that they are continuing the fraudulent scheme that the Atty. Genl is trying to stop.

Phone no. called from is 925-602-5137. The caller started out aggressive, but settled down a bit when I told him I've been in law enforcement most of my life and never heard of them. He agreed to mail me info. but really insisted on a pledge amount. The address on the letterhead is a PO box in Roseville, but the envelope shows it was mailed from Dallas. My Google check found an article from March 29,2009:
California Sues Charities For Stealing Donations To Public Servants

Received 2 calls/day 5 days/week for over a month and usually while I was at work however, when I did call the number back I would get an operator voice response that the number was disconnected. This occurred on each occasion when I did not pick up the phone to answer and I immediately called back with. I tried blocking and *69 with no success. I contacted the FTC and Annoyance call line, The Consumer of Gov. Affairs.

I have been getting these calls RELENTLESSLY asking if my husband home. I get freaked out and say he is out. They say they will call back. When I ask what it is regarding they say he has donated before and they want his support again. I live in San Diego my whole life none of the Police here have ever done this type of fund raising before. When my husband told me he has donated all ten years of his military career I was floored! I said they don't have an ORG and the numbers are bogus. So I also pointed out there were plenty of charities like red cross or Boys and girls club that have the criteria of charitable causes. I helped him see just because they say one thing doesn't mean they are what they say they are. My husband was so disappointed that his money to help kids was swindled from them. The due date on the invoice they sent for donation was due 10/9/08. Well to our dismay that same day we found 400 dollars missing from his bank account via ACH using his bank account info and an old address( 5 yrs). The check used was via the computer listing Company as Database Solutions and the signature was on file according to the check!!! Coincidence? We shut down every account of his and contacted the three credit bureaus to put a code on this account. PLease research carefully before donating any where!!!!

I was going to donate. They sent me their letter and I have NOT been able to verify their non profit status with the IRS or the BBB. They have a .com address, not a .org address. Leary of it, therefor I will not be donating.

Called and talked about the program. Said I would donate, but not without checking first (googled). I have the letter right here. After reading some of the info provided (thank you) I will be finding another charity to donate to, like my local animal shelter.

I agree this is the California Police Youth Charities. They are annoying and relentless, and have also called me from 925-602-5131.
However, regarding jordy's post: The link he provided is NOT for this particular charity, but for the California Police Activities League, a different group. There is no data one way or the other about this organization on Charity Navigator (or Charity Watch), but the CPYC website does say they are a registered non-profit and they have their taxpayer ID # on their site if you want to verify it. I'm not defending them, just want to get the facts straight. The fact that there is no info about them is a big red flag in and of itself.

MISSED CALL ON RESIDENTIAL PHONE LINE AT 6:33PM. CALLER ID LISTED ACCUVAR, INC. NO MESSAGE LEFT. GOOGLED ACCUVAR AND LEARNED IT IS A SMALL ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE FIRM IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THEIR LISTED NUMBER IS IN THE 925 CALLING AREA BUT 1-925-692-0014 IS NOT THEIR EXCHANGE/BODY NUMBER. GOOGLED 925-692-0014 AND REACHED THIS WEBSITE. I NOW PRESUME THE CALL CAME FROM CPYC - THE "CALIFORNIA POLICE YOUTH CHARITIES" FROM WHOM WE HAVE RECEIVED FUND SOLICITATION CALLS BEFORE. (I DOUBT THE CALL WAS FROM ACCUVAR. IT CAME AFTER BUSINESS HOURS, AND WE HAVE NO PRIOR RELATIONSHIP WITH OR NEED FOR AN ACCOUNTING FIRM.)

oops.. forgot the link:

They're given 0 stars but not a lot more is said about them.

I get calls from them ALL THE TIME and they never leave a message. It's CPYC and I can't find much about them, but this link is interesting. It outlines their expenses and income. If I'm reading it right, they spend (waste!) 63.8% on fundraising expenses. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but it looks like a loser of an organization!
Supposedly they're non-profit, but yet they don't have a .org domain. Their web site is www.calpyc.com. Maybe it means nothing, but I found it interesting.

We got a call from this no. too. I looked up the company AccuBar as indicated on our caller id and it doesn't seem to have any relation at all to this no. I have reported it to the local police. Are they just calling to see if anyone's home?

This company CPVC has called and did not left a messege, I found it so anoying to have a company call for whatever reason and not to consider leaving a messege. Afterall, even if its' a non-profit seeking funds to help support their purpose, its only fair to leave a messege and allow the home owner to choose to contribute funds to their cause or delete the messege.
