Got a similar call, indian accent, $6000. That i dont have to pay back, except it was from my own area code 714 so i thought this was strange. They had all my info, except an old email that i dont use anymore, and they wanted to know my age...shouldn't they know that of all things??

Middle eastern calling scam.

Just had a call from this number, 08/31/11 12:36 pm..didn't answer and no message left..now that I've been informed...I'm waiting on him to call back..

Well they are up to $7000. now LOL,  got the same call,  "you have been chosen bla bla bla, ok?  bla bla bla ok?  bla bla bla ok?  hello, are you there?"  I finally said ok,ok,ok already!  she hung up...

Got the phonecall minutes ago...heavily accented man (Spanish accent) saying I got selected for a 7,000 USD grant, since the US is conducting a demographic "search" every year ... I said there's no way they did that since I am here on a visa and not yet a citizen :)))))))))) which is true, btw... he just hung up... how come nobody knows what the heck these people are after and just stops them?!? It was an outright outrageous lie... I'll report the number, but...  Thanky for clarifying it here! :)

Im getting unwanted calls

Calls me everyday and when I called the number the operater tells me I have dialed a number that is not a working number. I will also report this one to the FCC. When I didn't answer they didn't leave a message.

got a call yesterday on my wifes phone which is a ny number but now on her cell here in tx.
the woman with heavy hindu accent told me about a 7000 grant and i needed to call next number which was a 202 area code. i called and got through the man with heavy hindu accent said he was steven johnson at 200 independence dr washington, dc. i told him i was calling the fbi because he wanted me to go to my local western union which he even looked up for me and send him 130 buck. he would then send me 7000 money xfer. i told him he was a scammer and it did not stop him from his script. i told him just send me the 6870 and keep the 130 off the top. he said no he was the verification dept and needed me to send the 130 to verify it was me. i finally got off phone with him laughing and called the tx state attorney generals office. and called the ftc and filed complaints. they said this scam goes on all the time and remember if you have to pay anything it is a scam. i told the dummy that they could send me a check the way the us govt does everything and thats when i new it was a scam i have known people who have gotten grants and it always comes from the treasury by check. how can we get these SOB's they called again today and my wife said they have been calling for weeks. you all complain and then we find out this area code is not even real. what kind of protection do we have on the phones these days it is time for an international crackdown. call your state attorney general consumer complaints, call the ftc. call your senator or congressman, THIS MUST STOP INNOCENT NAIVE PEOPLE ARE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, BUY AN AIR HORN AND BLAST THEM IN THE PHONE WHEN THEY CALL THEY WON'T BE DOING THIS AGIAN TOMORROW!!!!  HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Just got the second call this week. How do I make them stop calling?

I've now had 2 calls. The offer was for a 6 thousand dollar government grant. He was told not to call again. I'm on the national do-not-call list. He was fishing for ID. Second call I did not answer.  So much for DHS diligence under Eric Holder while protecting his people.

Got the call from this number stating that I've been chosen to receive $700 grant from US Government for being a good tax payer-? A guy with a heavy accent had all my info: address, phone number and the name. He only asked for my age and what I'm planning to spend the money on. He gave me 202-621-0716 number to call and a reference number to identify myself with. It all made me very skeptical, especially after I found some similar calls reported here. I did call that number, the woman answered - again, with the same accent. She answered as US Grant Dept. (Is there such a department at all?) I gave her a reference number and she asked for my name, address and phone number. I asked why can't she pull up that info with the reference number and she started yelling at me: Why are you calling if you don't trust us and wasting my time? Just hang up!! And that's what I did. Fishy, isn't it?

My wife received a call and I spoke iwth the person too. Said she received $7000 from the US government in Washington!! The reason is that she paid taxes on time and has no criminal record (which probably the person who called has). Asked her to call 2026210716 which is "US government Account Department" that pays such money and gave a "Grant Code" WG10.... Complete scam!!!

I received a call from this Idian fellow about a gov. grant of $7000.   I wanted to know what fund had to be used for and was side tracked and the "speceal" continued.  I finally asked what gov. agency he was calling from and what department.  Again, no answer, just more speal, I finally hung up.

I got a call froma guy with an Indian type accent also said the money was from the goverment and I did not need to pay back the $6000 he had all my info and gave me a second number to call with my claim number wg1013 the phone number was 202-407-9059.  I wasn't gonna call then my son said try it and see it was a number that rang and then an answering machine with an indian ladies voice.  I tried the original number and it was my call could not be completed at this time message.... I am wondering if the can get anything from that call that I will find my bank account drained soon...

Some one called me stating that he is from the U.S Government and asked to speak with me.  I refused to speak with him and he said that he would call me back.  Had an accent possibly from India or Pakistan.

Not sure who or what this is, but area code 926 doesnt even exist.

Female caller. She called me by first and last name. i asked who she was and why she was calling. She hung up. Sounded Pakistani or maybe Indian

i GOT A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER. tHE GUY HAD A MIDDLE EASTERN ACCENT. i COULD HARDLY UNDERSTAND HIM... I TOLD HIM HE HAD THE WRONG NUMBER.

I said this sounds like a scam and he said that it wasn't and I just hung up..

I received the same call today.  The guy said I was selected to win a goverment grant from Washington. I don't believe his bu***hit! please beware of this number 926-543-2166! don't give your information. Furthermore, do not call 202-621-0716.

I received the same call just now.  The person had a very heavy accent and was stumbling over his words while he was trying to read whatever was in front of him.  He told me the US Government was going to give me a grant of $7,000 for paying my bills on time & not being a criminal.  I let him talk to see if he would ask for my info, which of course I wasn't planning on giving him.  He started by trying to pronounce my full name, my maiden name, which I haven't used in 6 years.  I told him I wasn't interested & hung up.  It got me thinking of how he got my info.  The only place that my maiden name has been used recently was when I re-registered for college.  When I had originally attended college, it was under my maiden name & I had just recently updated it with the college this week.  I'm going to put in a complaint to my college as I can't imagine where else they got my info.  Also, someone else posted they had his/her social which my college has & someone else posted that they were told they had to use the $ for something "good" like their education.  If they know they got your info from a school, they would know that you spend $ on your education & that could intice you into falling for their scam.  IT'S A TOTAL SCAM, BUT IF YOU ARE ATTENDING COLLEGE, YOU MAY CONSIDER REPORTING IT TO YOUR SCHOOL AS THIS COULD BE WHERE THEY GOT YOUR INFO.

Got several calls from them. Especially annoyed at this one at 5:30 in the morning!  Doesn't leave messages and can't call them back.  Awful to hear that it is a scammer trying to get money.

got call yesterday asking 4my sister. told him (sounded like older man w/broken english) that she wasn't here, he then asked where she was going. i was curious as my sister has a father n-law w/broken english & wondered how & why he would b calling my cell #

I Got a call from the same  # today.  I just ignored it. Knew was  not good.
