So yeah, I work for etech.  Yes, it's outsourcing for several companies, up to and including (are you ready for this?):

Cox Communications

...just to name a few.  They say "calling on behalf of" because guess what?  They are doing just that!  Amazing, huh?
Like a previous poster said, they undergo all of the same training as "actual" company reps but for oh...roughly half the pay.  And trust me, they know EXACTLY what day and time it is and probably don't want to be talking to you any more than you want to talk to them.
There is an onshore and offshore location.  I can only speak for onshore, but I work with those folks and most of them aren't trying to screw you.  They are just trying to do their job in a small town without a lot of other options.
Now, this one's for you ATT/Bellsouth folks.  I know you are on the national DNC list and that's all well and good.  But if you have ATT now, have had ATT in the past 18 months, or have even just inquired about ATT in the past 6 months, you have what is referred to as an existing business relationship with that company.  This supercedes the national DNC and gives us poor bums every legal right to call you (look up the term if you don't believe me).  You DO have rights, though.  Ask to be put on ETECH's DNC list.  That'll take care of us.
Then all you have to worry about are all of the OTHER companies that ATT outsources to.

CALLED TWO TIMES THIS MORNING AND DID NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE WHEN THE ANSWER MACHINE PICKED UP. FILED COMPLAINT WITH DNC REGISTRY. ADVISE EVERYONE ELSE WHO GETS CALLS FROM THESE PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME.

Called the 1 936 559 2200 and actually talked to a person who told me that they were calling to inform me about new service from my phone company. I ask to be removed from thier list. Now I will see if it actually happens! Now maybe the 8 calls a day will stop.

I'm FED UP with the numerous calls everyday from etech......everybody who receives those phonecalls from etech needs to "return the favor". I'm going to paste the etech contact info at the end of this post ( it's accurate as of 8.7.08...i just got off the phone with them after speaking my mind ) If you call the Front Desk : 936-633-9203 press "0" to get the live operator. If you call pennebaker you'll get his voice mail. But do it if you can. Leave messages, harras them, do whatever you want...but let's put the shoe on the other foot.

i told him to get the hell off my phone and if AT&T wants to give me something they can put it in writing ... he continue to claim he was FROM at&t ... like i'm an idiot ... hello --- caller ID ...jacka$$

he called multiple times ... i stopped answering the phone.

OK.  I just spent 45 minutes of my time cleaning up this mess.  I also got a call from Etech Inc. (936-559-2200)  this morning from a man with a very heavy Indian accent. I asked them if it was a marketing call, they said no.  They asked me to unplug and re-plug my modem on Saturday for my DSL to double its speed at no cost.  He assured me my bill would remain the same.

I called ATT customer service and to my surprise they showed an order had just been placed for upgrading my DSL service at an additional cost.  Can you believe this crap!!! I immediately proceeded to cancel this upgrade and get a cancellation number.


I also called ATT corporate at 210-821-4105 and filed a complaint.  When I called the number I pressed “0” told the operator I wanted to file a complaint regarding my DSL service and she transferred me to Barbara Langhorne at 404-927-7400 (in the state of GA).  

If any of you got this same call I urge you to do as I did.

That's nice of Ron to type all of that, but I have to disagree to a point.  I feel qualified to do so because I have been a telemarketer - with Berry Direct, aka ETI, aka Etech Inc in Nacogdoches.

I worked there 9 months and was constantly chided for being polite & not pressing the customer until I was hung up on or I sold something.  The people that call you are probably somewhere in between a scam artist and a customer representative - they are actually calling on behalf of AT&T/Bell South, etc, but they will not hesitate to lie to you (a little or a lot) to get their sales bonus.  

These are all college students, townies, and anyone else that needs to make $7/hr (or something thereabouts), and most of them have little moral fiber.  The honest ones will not badger you about services and will be pleasant on the phone.  They do indeed have your info - address, phone number(s), and the services you currently subscribe to - and it's only a click of a button to remove you from the list - there are no "glitches" wherein you stay on the list accidentally.  

If I were being harrassed by these folks, I'd call that place day & night until they stopped calling me...

LISTEN UP PEOPLE & LET ME EDUCATE YOU!! …. I want to let you all know that I sympathize with  each and every one of you! I used to worked for eTech in Nacogdoches, TX.  We were not allowed to say that we are AT&T, but instead were instructed to say that we are “Calling on behalf of AT&T.” AT&T (Bell South) contracts Etech to call on their customers (from 7am - 8pm) to “Upgrade” their services i.e. Long distance plans, DSL & phone features (call waiting, caller ID, 3-way calling, etc.). We are taught to “Bundle” a customers service. In other words, to combine all services into a package for a lower monthly bill (lower than paying for the features separately).

As the call is dialed, your name/account with AT&T is displayed on the computer screen. Not your entire account. It automatically displays the basic amount of your bill and what services you are currently paying for. It also tells the eTech employee what features/bundles you qualify for.  It is up the eTech employee to “up-sell” your account.  The eTech employee is paid a base salary or commission, which ever is higher. Commissions depend on what they “sell” you.

Unfortunately, people think that just because they are on the National or State  Do Not Call List they should not be receiving these calls. What they don’t know is that these calls are legal! They are legal because you have done business with the company within the past 30 days! Since you get your phone service thru them you obviously are doing business with them, therefore they (AT&T or any company they hire) are allowed to call you!

At the end of each call, the eTech employee must “disposition” the call. Meaning, they have to place that call into a “Category”.  Calls answered by a Answering Machine, are disposition  for an automatic call back with 2-3 hours! Calls answered by a some one other than the customer (not a “decision maker”) they are disposition  for a call back! IF YOU SIMPLY HANG UP OR GET IRRATE & HANG UP … THE CALL IS DISPOSITIONED FOR AUTOMATIC CALL BACK!! IF YOU SAY YOU ARE ON THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST … THE CALL IS DISPOSITIONED FOR AUTOMATIC CALL BACK!!

PEOPLE, HERE IS WHERE YOU COME IN, IF YOU DISREGARD THIS INFORMATION, TRUST ME … THE CALLS WILL CONTINUE!!  DO NOT HANG UP! YOU MUST TELL THE CALLER TO PLACE YOU ON THE AT&T/BELLSOUTH/E-TECH DO NOT CALL LIST! EACH AND EVERY CALL IS RECORED! WRITE DOWN THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU ARE TALIKG TO! (THEY ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE YOU THEIR FIRST NAME ONLY) WRITE DOWN THE DATE AND EXACT TIME OF THE CALL! THIS IS YOUR RECORED OF YOUR REQUEST AND YOU CAN FOLLOW IT UP WITH ATT OR USE IT IF YOU HAVE TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCC! ~ THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THESE CALLS!

AFTER you have made your request, the person you are talking to is REQUIRED to read you the DO NOT CALL DISCLOSRE! MAKE SURE YOU LISTEN TO IT! ~ It can take up to 2 WEEKS to remove your name from all the promotional telemarketing lists from AT&T/Etech. In meantime you will probably  be getting more calls from them. If after 2 weeks you still are receiving calls, you can report them to the FCC (Federal Communication Commission) by call 1-888-CALL-FCC … 1-888-225-5322

In closing, I will say that while I worked for eTech, I was one of the few employees that DID enjoy my job! I had, and still do have impeccable work ethics. I refused to “up sell” people who could not afford it .. I refused to “mix-my words” so to give the “impression” that a customers bill would be less. (This is NOT how we are trained, but MANY employees take it upon themselves to do so, to get the “sale” ) When I worked at eTech I was successful because I put myself into the shoes of my customer. Seven out of ten calls when speaking to the customer, I would be able to give them a better more complete service for  about the same or slightly more than what they were paying.  I would jot done the customers name & phone number & provide a personal follow up call to make sure everything was as I said it would be! And if it wasn’t, I corrected it!  I quit not because of the company, but because I got tired of working with people who only cared about the bottom line .. Their paycheck! True customer service has gone by the wayside! Good Luck to all of you!

AT&T knows about them because they work for AT&T and AT&T uses etech to make them money. works for at&t but at&t doesn't give a crap what they do. nevr say yes in any form while talking to these creeps or they will report you as orderong a add-on to your internet or phone service. My wife works at E-tech. It is a marketing firm, some of the campaigns only call if you request it, others get your information from third parties. Ever put you phone/address/name on any internet form that wasnt secure??  Guess what ?, you just gave your info to someone who turns around and sells it to the highest bidder in bulk. Even if you are on the DNC list once the info is retrieved and sold there is nothing you can do, expect more phone calls and junk mail....................... IN SHORT DONT GIVE OUT YOUR INFO TO ANY WEBSITE THAT ISNT SECURE  (note MYSPACE AND FACE BOOK SELL IT TOO)

I live in So Cal and just got a call from ETECH with the above phone number. My phone tells me its a solicitation by the way it rings so I never answer but I will google to find out if anyone has comments about them. Also I will push talk and off real quick to send a message. Better than and F'off.
