They keep changing numbers and spoofing the caller ID, but these asshats call nearly every day several times and this has been going on for years now.

Seems the number they are using this week is: 936-568-8916

We called AT&T ourselves a few weeks ago and they had no idea who was calling us, but did verify that this change over was in process. The thing is, they want us to sign a contract. Do we have to? No. Do we have to switch to the new service? No. Then why do they constantly harass us? Simple. They want to "bundle" all your services and until you agree this will NEVER stop. Even if you Do agree, this will likely NEVER STOP. Think about it, why would they stop calling? The authorities are obviously are either in on it or don't care. I'm about to just cancel my landline entirely and go back to watching antennae TV. So sick of this crap. It goes on ALL DAY LONG.

The problem seems to be that many large US companies are now outsourcing their customer services to independent call centers. When they don't have any "legit" work they do the usual scam calls, and also collections. They use the same techniques they use to track down deadbeats. Explains why they are so persistent.

I'm not even buying that these calls come from the source some others have named. If so, how come on some days I get 20 calls like this all from different numbers, but other days I get none at all? It's because one company is doing it all and I really doubt if it's even US based. Search Engine optimizing, switch your DSL, switch your long distance, Google ads, it is all the same crap, but now it is somewhat legitimate because AT&T and Direct TV are contracting with them.

When the phone rings there is no way to even know if they have any true connection with AT&T or whomever else they claim to represent. Are these scam calls or not? Just depends on how you look at it, but one thing we all can likely agree on is this is annoying and a lousy way to do business.

What you going to do though? Not use AT&T or Comcast? Not have a cell phone? Even if you cancel they still call! This is beyond aggravating and the worse part is your elected officials are in on it. Has there ever been a proposal do stop or regulate these calls? Or a bill that would give us all the option of blocking the calls? You don't have to be genius to figure out why, the politicians are likely loving it as these companies probably handsomely fund their reelection campaigns. Wisen up people, vote out the incumbents. This current crop of pols are the most dishonest ever and you guys keep voting them in. You deserve what you get, but I don't. I'm trying to vote them out, c'mon people let's do this. The career pols are running this country into the ground and all we do about it is gripe on a web site. In a way you all deserve this and more for either not voting or voting straight ticket. Get a clue, eh?

Ignoring the calls will help, but after 2-3 years I get as many as ever. Sure, they'll stop for a day or two, but come roaring back with a diff set of spoofed numbers.

Only thing I know that can be done is to buy an answering machine that rejects calls you don't want. If any ph provider offers this, it's news to me. I sure as hell can't do it with AT&T where I live.

If you have the ability to forward calls from selected numbers with your phone service, have the annoying numbers forwarded to another telemarketers number. Just make sure the number you are forwarding them to is in the continental U.S. or you will be charged for a toll call. The best thing is you don't hear your phone ring, and the calls usually stop after a week or two.

I was contacted by a rep with a fantastic deal.  I am so glad that I had just signed up with AT&T.  Otherwise, I might have fallen for this scam.  I didn't get the name of the company.  The rep said that AT*T was making this fantastic offer to get people to come BACK to AT*T

According to a guy named ROBERT, Effective Teles is a company contracted by AT&T.

I cancelled my AT&T Account, but because I previously had their service, they are "allowed" to bother me.  Robert just tried to give me another sales spiel, and I requested that he put me on AT&T's Do Not Call list, which, according to Robert, will take THIRTY DAYS to take effect!!

What kind of nonsense is that?

I guess it's AT&T. We used to have AT&T and switched to Comcast because AT&T was too expensive. We kept the phone number and for a year now we've been getting calls from "Effective Teles." We answer occasionally and ask them to take us off their calling list - no luck. We're changing our number soon. Hope that solves the problem!

I have been getting these calls for several days now, except the number ends with a 3, but on the caller ID it says Effective Teles.  I know who is behind these calls.  It is the company called Frontier, who some of you might be familiar with -- if you had Verizon for phone or internet service, and Frontier took over their services in some parts of the country.  They are simply trying to let people know about services and promotions they have.  So why can't it just say "Frontier" on the caller ID?  Why do they have to be mysterious about it, and call you all hours of the day and night, day after day?  I don't know.  But anyway, mystery solved!

They have called me twice in two days and no one is on the line.  Have reported them on DNC registry.  You can report if the caller is a recording and not a live person whether you are on the DNC registry or not.  I figure you can report if the caller is dead air as well, so I did.  Have registered on the DNC registry now and will file a complaint with the registry every time they call me if no one is on the line.  By the way, I am not now nor have I ever knowingly been an AT&T customer.  I got upsale calls from Frontier three times in as many weeks and requested my number removed from their lists after the third call.  Haven't gotten another call from them yet, but THIS outfit?!  Not the same on caller ID so I don't know who they are or what they want.

I too get numerous calls from this number....tried to call back last night and was put on hold with music and the "your call is important to us"  held for 15 minutes and was finallly diconnected...

Caller ID Effective Teles #936-568-8951 has called me 10 times in two weeks
and if I pick up the phone they never speak or answer me! I can hear what sounds like
a busy call center in the background.
If this is ATT - I already HAVE ATT - so what are they calling me for when they won't
speak to me when I do pick up!
