I think when it is an immediate disconnect it is a way "they" have of verifying that the dialed number is active.... only those answering (perhaps) will qualify for round two of phishing....
I turned off my answering machine when I am home.... visually check caller id before answering... sone answer for those you do not recognize....

937-273-7862 came up on my phone ID as FRADULENT CALL today. I answered it immediately disconnected.

Got a call from this number today. It was listed as Bill Rebate. Not sure who was calling.
